Imagine, if you will, a massive Venn diagram with aquatic salamanders, lesser-known passages from Revelations, “The Last House on the Left,” fried pork byproducts, and hot air balloons.
We can’t definitively state that Season 2 of the Fxx series “Dicktown” is the lone inhabitant of that sliver in the middle, but it’s almost certainly the only animated detective show that also has an impish parody of Tintin arriving with fanfare at the heart of its sophomore season.
The show is driven by the same expansive web of Things that preoccupy its creator/writer/stars John Hodgman and David Rees, a creative engine that made its first batch of episodes in 2020 so distinct. “Dicktown” tracks the ongoing hyphenated tribulations of down-on-his-luck, out-of-work John Hunchman (Hodgman) and his foe-turned-friend investigative partner David Purefoy (Rees).

March sees the return of a tireless crimefighter dedicated to making sure justice is done: John Hunchman, the private eye voiced by John Hodgman on Dicktown. And, oh yeah, there’s a new Batman movie, too. In fact, there’s a lot to take in in March, from failed tech start-ups to robot sons to the return of Amy Schumer.

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway are creating a new kind of workspace in the full trailer for Apple TV+’s limited series WeCrashed.
Based on the Wondery podcast of the same name, the eight-part drama explores “the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible,” per the official synopsis. The company had grown from “a single co-working space into a global brand worth $47 billion in under a decade. Then, in less than a year, its value plummeted.”

“America: The Motion Picture,” Netflix’s first R-rated animated feature, offers a satirical, revisionist reworking of the American Revolution, in which a chainsaw-wielding George Washington (voiced by Channing Tatum) fights the British with a merry band of Colonial misfits to avenge the death of his Bff, Abe Lincoln (voiced by Will Forte). They include beer-worshiping Sam Adams (Jason Mantzoukas), gender-bending science wiz Thomas Edison (Olivia Munn), “horse-racist” Paul Revere (Bobby Moynihan), one-armed Apache leader Geronimo (Raoul Trujillo), and handy blacksmith John Henry (Killer Mike).
It’s like an absurd 2D cross between “Archer” and “Clone High,” which isn’t surprising, since it’s directed by “Archer” producer Matt Thompson and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are rebooting “Clone High” for HBO Max, while writing and producing “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2,” which is co-written by “America” scribe Dave Callaham (Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings...

“America: The Motion Picture” gives George Washington chainsaw arms. As far as historical rewrites go, that’s not nothing. If the cherry tree story was always fiction — not to mention scores of other anecdotes about historical figures that have morphed their way into conventional understanding about the Great Men of History — then why not tell a nonsensical version of 1776 that involves mechanized weapon limbs?
That’s about as close to making a salient point as this movie gets. For those watching who consider anything other than reverence of the Founders to be insufficient, this will not be their cup of Boston Lager. For others looking for an insightful takedown of the mythologizing of American history, there’s not much for them to find, either. , often only slightly more ambitious than that commercial where ol’ Gw drives a Dodge Challenger with a Hemi engine. Most of the time, it’s knowingly stupid,...

"I'm George Washington. Let's go start a f*&!ing revolution!" Time to celebrate 'Merica! Netflix dropped an official trailer for the animated comedy America: The Motion Picture, from Matt Thompson. In this wildly tongue-in-cheek animated revisionist history, a chainsaw-wielding George Washington assembles a team of rabble rousers — including beer-loving bro Sam Adams, famed scientist Thomas Edison, acclaimed horseman Paul Revere, and a pissed off Geronimo — to defeat Benedict Arnold and King James in the American Revolution. Who will win? No one knows, but you can be sure of one thing: these are not your father's Founding... uh, Fathers. This stars "America's sweethearts" Channing Tatum (as G.W.), Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Judy Greer, Bobby Moynihan (as Paul), Raoul Max Trujillo (as Geronimo), Killer Mike, Andy Samberg, Will Forte, and Simon Pegg (as King James). This looks totally insane in the best of ways. Can't wait to watch this and laugh my ass off.

In a year when the phrase “back to normal” has been (rightfully) stripped of all meaning, it only seems appropriate that it also brings “Archer” Season 11, one in which its title character returns from a coma.
The three-year diversion (a length of time that holds true for this animated world as well as ours) found Sterling Archer and his merry band of erstwhile spy colleagues traveling through his own subconscious. It was an ambitious swing that not only gave the show a broad visual palette to work with, it also gave series creator Adam Reed a chance to transition the show to a more traditional writers room.
So as Sterling (H. Jon Benjamin) returns to the cozy mid-modern interior of the agency office he hasn’t seen in 36 months, it’s a slightly different show that he’s stepping back into as well. While some of this season may feel like a reset,...

“Dicktown” is a perfect title, even if without context you may never guess that the animated series it belongs to follows a pair of detectives investigating the mysteries of their chosen client base: North Carolina teenagers.
The title refers to a nickname for Richardsville, a Tar Heel State town that might be fictional in this telling, but is rooted in the combined experiences and fascinations of its two writers and creators: John Hodgman and David Rees.
In “Dicktown” (the featured Season 3 presentation of the brilliantly eccentric Fxx anthology shorts collection “Cake”), John Hunchman (Hodgman) is the former precocious boy detective still puzzling out amateur-level jobs, while David Purefoy (Rees) is the former bully who’s now his partner in crime-solving.
“One of the mysteries that we never solved, and never bothered to even solve in writing, was why these guys became friends. They have this long history of antagonism. And we just decided,...
