If you are going to start the episode with a long haired woman getting her head shaved bald... then hire an actress willing to do such a thing. The bald cap was just simply horrible (alien brain added to human skull look). I enjoy this show just because it's a show. Most of it (not just this episode) is stereotypes or broad situations. It would be different if this was based on real life cases from actual news reels all the time. Most of this show is fluff.

This episode was good

I haven't seen the original but found this episode to be very topical, especially after the NXIVM cult a handful of years ago. Given that I had a handful of former friends that ended up deeply involved in Keith Raniere's heresy, this episode really struck to the core for me. Religion, and how toxic it can become, will always be a popular narrative, this was modernized effectively in my opinion. I don't understand where the hate comes from in these other reviews, sure it's basic cable television, but critics are going to critic, and by that I mean they'll unnecessarily slander something. This episode was good, well written, and well acted. The show is formulaic and episodic, this episode is no different.
Nothing has changed since the original 1975 show

This is the first of the current show I watched. And that with fast-forwarding though all but the main thread, the "evil" pastor and his "kids".
OK, this is a lazy repeat of a story that was old in 1975, nothing new here.
Plus, being only about 1/2 of the full show, it was not really worth watching.
I don't see it as "anti-religion", there have been too many real-life charlatans hiding behind a religion. But it was sloppy writing, kind of a pain-by-numbers (intentional misspelling).
It is unfortunate, Shemar Moore deserves better. So did guest star Sean Patrick Thomas.

Many City Police Departments no longer allow their Police Officers to have their Firearms, Protective Equipment, Uniforms inside their Personally Owned Vehicles, as too many criminals, gang members, specifically watch what License Plate Vehicle Police Officers drive, then watch for when the most opportune time to break and enter or completely steal the entire vehicle is.
Another Woke show
