Sundance Now has picked up Domino Day, the BBC YA drama about a young witch with extraordinary powers in modern-day England.
Following its UK launch on BBC Three earlier this year and a strong critical showing, Domino Day will premiere in the U.S. this summer on Sundance Now and AMC+.
Set and filmed in Manchester, UK, the supernatural six-parter stars the BAFTA–nominated Siena Kelly (Adult Material, Hit & Run) as Domino Day, a young woman on all the dating apps. A young witch with extraordinary powers, Domino is desperately seeking a community who can help her understand who she is, but she doesn’t need to look far as a coven of witches is already tracking her every move, convinced they have to stop her before her powers destroy everyone and everything around her.

The renaissance of “Doctor Who,” which started its latest season this week, is a 20-year journey that is entwined with the establishment of a thriving TV production scene in South Wales, where it shoots, and the meteoritic rise of the production company Bad Wolf.
This dates back to 2003 when writer Russell T Davies was asked by the BBC’s then head of drama, Jane Tranter, to revive the show and to base the production in South Wales, an area hitherto known for coal mining and heavy industry. It was produced in 2004, overseen by BBC Wales head of drama, Julie Gardner.
When Tranter and Gardner relocated to Los Angeles to lead BBC Worldwide Productions and Adjacent Productions, they produced “Da Vinci’s Demons” for Starz, and again located the production in South Wales.
In 2015, Tranter and Gardner set up Bad Wolf, which takes its name from an episode of “Doctor Who,” and...

“No job. No boss. Just fun.” That was the offer the Fifteenth Doctor made to Ruby Sunday in the Doctor Who series 14 trailer. ‘And’, he should probably have added, ‘quite a lot of mortal peril,’ – but when has the Doctor ever been upfront with companions about the not-insignificant dangers of travelling in time and space? He probably doesn’t even fill in a risk assessment.
We else do we know about series 14? The first episode will arrive on BBC One, iPlayer and Disney+ on a Saturday in May 2024, and there will be eight episodes in total followed by a Christmas Day special. We also know that the currently-filming series 15 will follow in 2025 with a rumoured new companion.
Aside from that, verified info about the new series is summarised below (catch up on the valiant work of the @set_dw account for non-official but useful clues). We’ll update it all...

Ryan Gosling’s stuntman-bounty hunter in “The Fall Guy” is apparently a Swiftie.
Universal released a Super Bowl ad on Sunday for David Leitch’s thriller, which features multiple action sequences, aliens and space cowboys. In one scene, Gosling cries in his car while listening to Taylor Swift’s song “All Too Well.”
“Have you been crying to Taylor Swift?” Emily Blunt asks Gosling in the trailer.
“Doesn’t everybody?” Gosling replies.
The scene in the Super Bowl ad most likely alludes to the NFL’s coverage of the pop star during the 2023 season. Swift has attended multiple NFL games to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The pop star’s arrival at the 2024 Super Bowl today dominated pregame coverage on CBS Sports’ NFL, even hours before kickoff.

Actor Julian Kostov is joining HBO’s The White Lotus, replacing Miloš Biković in the show’s cast.
Kostov (Shadow and Bone) will recur in the show’s third season, which is set to begin filming in Thailand this month. He joins the cast after HBO “decided to part ways” with Biković, following public criticism from Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs over Biković’s seeming support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a Jan. 24 social media post, the ministry wrote, “HBO, is it all right for you to work with a person who supports genocide & violates international law?” over a video clip of statements Biković has made about Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. The Serbia-born actor has worked in Russia for the past decade; he received an award from Russian leader Vladimir Putin in 2018 and became a Russian citizen in 2021.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 has added Julian Kostov to its cast.
Kostov will appear in a recurring role in the HBO series that was previously held by Miloš Biković. Biković was recently cut from the series, however, over his support of Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the country’s war against Ukraine.
“Today, a targeted campaign has been unleashed against me, seemingly as an external maneuver to influence decisions that can create a disturbing precedent shadowing the essence of artistic freedom,” Biković previously said in a statement. “The result of such a narrative is the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art.”
Kostov joins previously announced Season 3 cast members: Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Tayme Thapthimthong, Christian Friedel, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris, Carrie Coon, Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Natasha Rothwell, Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Sarah Catherine Hook,...

Your favorite AMC titles could be popping up on Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services in the near future.
AMC is not ready to close the doors on its various streaming services just yet. It claims just 11.1 million streaming customers total, and with the rise of monstrous platforms like Netflix with hundreds of millions of users, it has almost felt like a foregone conclusion that AMC+, Shudder and other AMC streamers will wink out of existence sooner or later. But the platforms continue to soldier on, despite the challenges.
AMC licensed seven titles to Warner Bros. Discovery to stream on that company’s platform Max in September. The licensing agreement brought more attention to AMC+, and AMC CEO Kristin Dolan says her company is open to similar deals with other streamers. AMC Networks is “actively” exploring more pop-up deals in the same vein as the content group’s recent Max deal, its CEO has said.
That experimental deal saw the likes of Fear the Walking Dead, Killing Eve and A Discovery of Witches sit on Max as part of an AMC+ rail on the Warner Bros Discovery-owned streamer.
“We didn’t put current seasons on there but we got a lot of exposure for our content,” said AMC CEO Kristin Dolan, citing how season 1 of Dark Winds had acted as strong promotion for season 2, which launched on on AMC and AMC+ a few days after the arrangement kicked in.
Speaking at Content London this morning, Dolan said that “at the height” of the pop-up period, AMC shows accounted for “seven of the top ten shows that were being streamed on Max.” The company is now exploring what the results of the “bigger shop window” are,...

There are numerous laugh-out-loud moments in Saltburn, Emerald Fennell’s darkly comic and voyeuristic exploration of the British aristocracy being released on Friday by Amazon MGM Studios. Despite the hugely impressive efforts of Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant, however, most don’t belong to the lead cast, but to Paul Rhys.
As Duncan, the imperious and terrifying butler, the Welsh actor silently steals scenes from under the toffee noses of both those he dutifully serves at the Saltburn mansion (including Pike, Grant, Jacob Elordi and Alison Oliver) and the lower-class interloper he’s keeping a beady eye on (Barry Keoghan) each time he appears with hilariously po-faced magnificence.
And it’s a face that crops up again in another starry title landing late in the awards season corridor. In Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated biopic Napoleon, out Nov. 22 via Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures, Rhys plays Talleyrand, the crafty...

“The Fall Guy” is now crash landing in theaters on May 3, 2024, after “Deadpool 3” vacated the release slot amid the work stoppage caused by the recently ended SAG-AFTRA strike.
David Leitch’s action thriller, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, was originally set to release on March 1, 2024. Based on Glen A. Larson’s 1980s television series of the same name, the film stars Gosling as Colt, a stuntman on the hunt for a missing movie star he once doubled for. Blunt stars as Gosling’s director and ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Awol star Tom Ryder.
Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Winston Duke (“Black Panther”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”) and Teresa Palmer (“A Discovery of Witches”) round out the cast.
Disney previously announced that several films have been delayed due to the actors strike, including “Deadpool 3,” Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” “Mufasa: The Lion King” and its “Blade” reboot.

Co-exclusive licensing agreements like the recent one between Max and AMC+ are becoming more common, but who could be the next to team up?
Halloween on Max was a little spookier than normal in 2023. The streamer imported seven series from AMC+ in early September, many with a supernatural or horror theme: “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire,” “Dark Winds,” “Gangs of London,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Killing Eve,” “A Discovery of Witches,” and “Ride with Norman Reedus.”
New data from Ampere shows that five of the seven titles licensed temporarily to Max saw their popularity increase during September. Max has licensed several HBO originals to Netflix, which has led to greater engagement for those titles on both streamers. Peacock, MGM+, and Starz stand out as platforms that could license to Max next.7-Day Free Trial $9.99+ / month Max via amazon.com

Max and AMC Networks CEOs Casey Bloys and Kristin Dolan say their cross-platform licensing collaboration experiment that ended this week was a success – and may become more common as the streaming landscape evolves.
“‘Interview with the Vampire’ was the newest show that they had, and ‘A Discovery of Witches’ also did pretty well,” HBO CEO Casey Bloys told TheWrap during a Thursday press event for HBO and Max. The executive noted the success was “not surprising” because these titles were new to Max subscribers.
“It was a nice experiment,” Bloys said. “I don’t know what it means for AMC+, but it is nice to have those titles on our on our service.”

In 2014 and 2015, Vertigo published Si Spencer’s eight-issue graphic novel Bodies, a mind-bending mystery about four police officers from different historical eras who discover the same corpse in the same London location, decades apart. Featuring detectives from the present day, the 1940s, the 1890s and 2053, it’s a complex conspiracy thriller about a very dark future. Originally illustrated by four artists – Dean Ormston, Phil Winslade, Meghan Hetrick and Tula Lotay – each era had its own distinct feel and look.
Spencer, who had also written on other Vertigo titles including Judge Dredd and Books of Magick: Life During Wartime, sadly passed away in February 2021, meaning he wasn’t able to see Paul Tomalin’s eight-part Netflix series adapted from his work. It’s out now, with a sprawling cast of characters including Boiling Point and This Is England’s Stephen Graham, several established actors and a handful of newcomers. Here’s more about them.

Earlier this year, Max announced it would be housing over 200 episodes of AMC Networks’ television at no additional cost to subscribers beginning in September.
That two-month window is coming to an end, so you’ll want to catch up on “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” Season 1; “Dark Winds” Season 1; “Gangs of London” Seasons 1 and 2; “Fear the Walking Dead” Seasons 1-7; “Killing Eve” Seasons 1-4; “A Discovery of Witches” Seasons 1-3; and “Ride with Norman Reedus” Seasons 1-5 while you still can.
A number of great horror titles are leaving at the end of October as well, including: “A Cabin in the Woods,” “Beetlejuice,” “Eight Legged Freaks,” “From Hell,” “It” and “It: Chapter 2,” and several more. They’ll be great to put on while you host your Halloween bash.
Here’s everything leaving Max in October 2023.

In July, HBO series “Insecure,” “Ballers,” “Band of Brothers,” “Six Feet Under,” and “The Pacific” (and “True Detective” outside of the U.S.) copy-and-pasted their way onto Netflix. The first-of-its-kind move between the longtime rivals was a success, HBO chief Casey Bloys said at Wednesday’s Code Conference — and not just in terms of a licensing fee.
“What’s been nice about it is, without doing a thing on Max, the viewership of… ‘Ballers’ and ‘Insecure’ [on Max] really saw a spike when it was on Netflix,” Bloys said. “You’re introducing it to more people, it’s marketing.”
It’s becoming a more and more common marketing practice. Rerun episodes of USA Network series “Suits” were on Peacock for years, and they did fine — for USA Network reruns on Peacock. But when NBCUniversal licensed the nine-season (2011-2019) legal dramedy to Netflix in June, the bar (pun intended) was raised.

Exclusive: Emerald Fennell likened making Saltburn, her dangerously dark comedy of class and lack of manners, “to taking your clothes off and exposing yourself.”
The filmmaker, who won an Oscar and BAFTAs for her debut feature Promising Young Woman, clarified that the “transgressive” material that she’s interested in working on means “that you have to spend a lot of your time as a director saying, ‘Trust me, I think this how we’re going to do it.’ And so then people watch it, which is so thrilling. But yeah, you are showing yourself. You are taking your clothes off and exposing yourself.”
She added that Saltburn, while made on a big canvas, is a ”very intimate“ movie.
She told me during a long conversation at the Telluride Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere, that this is a film “about needing and wanting and desire and sex.

For the next two months, Max will be the “one to watch” for AMC series.
On Friday, seven AMC shows will be available on the former HBO Max under a new category “AMC+ Picks on Max.” For the next 60 days, Max users can binge Seasons 1-7 of “Fear the Walking Dead,” the first seasons of “Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire” and “Dark Winds,” Seasons 1 and 2 of “Gangs of London,” Seasons 1-5 of “Ride with Norman Reedus,” Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of “A Discovery of Witches,” and Seasons 1-4 of “Killing Eve.”
The AMC series will be available on both the ad-free and ad-supported Max tiers, although they’ll be commercial-free for all Max users regardless of plan. They will exist on their own branded rail — until Halloween, which thematically feels appropriate for pretty much all of the migrating series.
It’s a win-win, something both companies were quick to point out in the August 28 announcement.
