Hollywood has a problem. A problem with names. If you are not American, or English (and even that is a problem sometimes), then chances are people have been butchering your name since forever. Irish, Afrikans, Indian, Eastern European, or really, anywhere that is not American, it won’t be a surprise for people to learn that even after decades, some celebrities have been called by names that is not really theirs.

Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman Remake Coming From Tim Burton And ... Gone Girl Author Gillian Flynn?
If you've been missing the acidic wit of "Gone Girl" and "Sharp Objects" author Gillian Flynn lately, don't worry: she's reportedly back in the screenwriting game, this time with a script that's set to become a Tim Burton movie, per Variety.
According to the outlet, Burton is set to direct a new version of "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" penned by Flynn, with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper producing and Kai Dolbashian on board as an EP. Mittman and Harper worked with Burton on Netflix's smash hit "Wednesday," and hopefully the unlikely director-screenwriter duo will bring new life to the story (which comes from the 1958 B-movie of the same name).
Apparently, it's unclear as of yet how much Burton and Flynn's "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" will follow its predecessor, but it's worth noting that the Nathan Hertz-directed original featured a literal 50-foot woman who was...

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” creator Tim Burton and “Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn are tackling a remake of “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” for Warner Bros.
Burton is directing the upcoming film from a script by Flynn. The science-fiction horror story follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband. It’s unclear how closely this new take will follow the original 1958 movie, starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers. The first film reportedly carried a budget of just $88,000 — so it’s reasonable to assume the remake will have a slightly higher price tag.
The project reteams Burton with Warner Bros., where he is currently working on the sequel to his 1988 movie “Beetlejuice.” The follow-up film about a pesky poltergeist, newly and fittingly titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” will be released in theaters on Sept. 6. His other directing credits include “Edward Scissorhands,...

Exclusive: In the wake Barbie racking up eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture and becoming Warner Bros’ highest grossing movie of all-time at $1.44 billion, here’s another female power event project that’s in the works under the Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy administration.
We understand that Tim Burton is attached to direct Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, a reimagined telling of the 1958 Warner Bros. movie classic, which Primetime Emmy nominee Gillian Flynn is writing.
The original sci-fi cult classic made for a reported $88K starred Allison Hayes as a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an alien triggers her to grow into a giantess, complicating her marriage which is already in turmoil no thanks to her philandering husband.

When Gillian Flynn novels hit the screen, it tends to result in something highly watchable. Take, for instance, David Fincher’s big-screen adaptation of Gone Girl, with its stellar casting of Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck, or HBO’s adaptation of the ultra-dark Sharp Objects, anchored by the ace Amy Adams. Now, another of Flynn’s novels is being adapted into an HBO series – her Sharp Objects follow-up Dark Places.
The series will see Flynn serve as co-creator, writer, and co-showrunner, working alongside Brett Johnson in all those capacities – while Guerrin Gardner will be co-creator and writer. The show is said to be in early development, so stay tuned for updates of it moving further into the pipeline. The novel was previously adapted as a film by writer-director Gilles Paquet-Brenner in 2015, with Charlize Theron leading the cast, though it went largely under the radar and received mixed reviews.

Variety reports that HBO is developing a limited series based on Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places. If that strikes a chord, you might remember that Dark Places was previously adapted into a film starring Charlize Theron. The film received mediocre reviews and only grossed $5.1 million upon its release in 2015, so it’s entirely understandable if you don’t remember it.
The logline of the novel, which was originally published in 2009, states: “Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in the famous 1985 ‘Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.’ She survived—and famously testified that her teenage brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, a pair of mother/daughter true crime ‘detectives’ locate a grownup Libby and pump her for details, believing that Ben is innocent. Libby, having spent her youth working the talk show circuit, hopes to once again turn a profit off her tragic history:...

What if I told you that almost ten years ago, famous author Gillian Flynn had one of her novels adapted into a feature film starring the likes of Charlize Theron, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult, Corey Stoll, Tye Sheridan, and even a young Chloë Grace Moretz, for good measure? You'd probably accuse me of lying, since that first attempt to bring Flynn's 2009 book "Dark Places" to life mostly just came and went after releasing to poor reviews and has promptly been memory-holed by the moviegoing public at large. While that was a blow at the time — don't worry, Flynn was probably comforting herself with the fact that yet another adaptation of her work, David Fincher's "Gone Girl," had become an instant hit the year before — that loss has now become HBO's gain.

“The Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo announced in late August that she was launching an OnlyFans account that followers could subscribe to for $15 a month. Now in an interview with Fox News Digital, the actor explained that pivoting to OnlyFans came as a result of losing acting work over the last couple of years due to her stance against Covid vaccine mandates.
“I know some people have said some nasty things about me having joined OnlyFans,” de Matteo said. “But, you know, the way we see it in this house is mommy’s a warrior, not accepting defeat…I figured, ‘Ok, so everybody’s in their underwear and being sexy on Instagram and I don’t do that, but I can do that and get paid for it’…I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.”

The 1993 film True Romance is the rare Quentin Tarantino script that wasn’t directed by Tarantino himself — it was directed by the late Tony Scott, and it featured an ensemble cast that was led by Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. Released 30 years ago, it was not an immediate success at the box office — even with the participation of big names like Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, Dennis Hopper, and Christopher Walken, the film struggled to earn back its shooting budget. It got great reviews, though, and its reputation has only increased over time — it’s now regarded as a cult classic. Slater’s performance was particularly intense and disturbing, and though Slater doesn’t consider himself a method actor, he admitted at the time that the film’s darkness bled over into his own life while they were filming. Revenge is a dish best served cold in "Man on Fire," Tony Scott's excellent, violent thriller from 2004. The film is currently streaming on Netflix overseas, where audiences are seemingly keen to tune into the adventures of Denzel Washington's John W. Creasy. Creasy, we learn, is a damaged, miserable, unshaven former CIA agent and mercenary turned bodyguard. If that sounds like a demotion, it is — Creasy has a drinking problem that's pretty much destroyed his career. Now he can only find work guarding other people. He's also perpetually miserable and grumpy, unwilling to get close to anyone for any reason. His only friend is an old friend played with weird gusto by Christopher Walken.
Walken's character helps Creasy land a new job. This latest gig takes Creasy to Mexico, where he's tasked with guarding Pita (Dakota Fanning), a young girl who is the daughter of a wealthy Mexican businessman...

Home to films like “Lady Bird,” “Eighth Grade” and “Mid90s,” A24 is synonymous with a certain brand of indie, auteur-driven coming-of-age story. The company’s latest is “Funny Pages,” the debut feature film from writer-director Owen Kline (who you might recognize as Frank from “The Squid and the Whale”). Set in the suburbs of New Jersey, “Funny Pages” follows Robert (Daniel Zolghadri), a talented high schooler determined to make his way as a cartoonist. When his beloved teacher suddenly passes away, he rebels against his upper-middle class upbringing and abandons future plans to attend art school.
Robert’s decision to drop out of school, rent sketchy (i.e. illegal) lodgings in a boiler room and take a low-paying assistant job bring him into the path of Wallace (Matthew Maher), a former employee at one of the comic magazines Robert idolizes. And just like that, winter has come again. HBO Max’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by the return of the king. Or more accurately: the return of the queen … of the Seven Kingdoms.
Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Aug. 21, just over three years after Game of Thrones concluded in controversial fashion with “The Iron Throne.” This new series is a prequel, depicting the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons from George R.R. Martin’s lore. When dragon fights dragon, the realm will be torn asunder. But the viewer will certainly delight in all the Targaryen action.

An impressive slate of A24 films are coming to HBO Max next month, including Oscar-winners like 2015’s “Room” and Alex Garland’s directorial debut “Ex Machina.”
A total of 28 A24 films will arrive on the streamer on Aug. 1, timed to the studio’s tenth anniversary and marking the largest collection of A24 films made available to stream on the platform. Much of the lineup consists of films released prior to 2016, when A24 was still a distribution house and not yet the full-fledged studio it is today.

"Gone Girl" is one of the most popular mystery novels of the postmodern era. Before publication, expectations for the book were high, as author Gillian Flynn's previous works, "Sharp Objects" and "Dark Places," had established her as a sharp, cunning writer unafraid to tackle truly twisted material. "Gone Girl" became a sensation when it hit bookshelves in 2012; the question "Who is Amy Dunne?" haunted both the novel's characters and an audience of mystery fans.

Actor Tye Sheridan is wearing a different hat with his new media-tech startup — which he claims will let indie filmmakers deliver blockbuster-level VFX on a fraction of the budget.
Sheridan (above right) co-founded Wonder Dynamics with visual-effects artist Nikola Todorovic (above left). Over the last four years, the duo have been quietly experimenting with using artificial intelligence and machine learning to create interactive video applications. Now Wonder Dynamics is gearing up to introduce a new AI production tool that they promise will let independent artists produce dazzling VFX and CGI animations for far less than is required today.
“It breaks down the barriers to achieving your wildest vision,” Sheridan told Variety. “A lot of times people dream up this story but it’s not possible to make because it would cost $200 million. AI can democratize VFX.”

Gillian Flynn’s new show Utopia has been in the works since roughly the time her 6-year-old daughter was conceived. The girl is affectionately known as “Kick” — after what she used to do in the womb while the author was working away on the TV series.
“She could go feral very quickly, and I say that with all affection,” the bestselling thriller writer-turned-showrunner tells Rolling Stone. “There’s an instinct to tame [children], I think, and I try to resist that. Girls especially need that particular skill set of fierceness — the willingness to push back.

Somewhere inside every album Beck has made since Mellow Gold — his 1994 surprise attack of slippery irony and hip-hop bravado — is the solo folk-blues singer caught on that year’s One Foot in the Grave, writing about despair with a surrealist edge while turned toward hope. That is the Beck who jumps out here in “Saw Lightning,” in looping spasms of acoustic, skidding Delta slide guitar.
Most of the song’s apocalypse comes in contemporary kicks. Beck sings of great fire and flooding, praying for rescue in a strident android’s...

Beck has released “Dark Places,” another track off his upcoming new album Hyperspace, along with a moody lyric video created by Eddie Obrand. The song follows “Uneventful Days” and “Hyperlife,” which the singer unveiled last month, and “Saw Lightening,” which was released in April.
Hyperspace, which drops November 22nd, features collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Coldplay’s Chris Martin (background vocals on “Stratosphere”), Sky Ferreira (“Die Waiting”) and producers Greg Kurstin and Paul Epworth. Beck originally intended to release an Ep from his sessions with Williams, who worked on seven of the album’s 11 tracks.

While most of the toys in the Toy Story universe have been harmless, Toy Story 4 is returning to its Big Baby days with a sinister vintage doll named Gabby Gabby, voiced by none other than Christina Hendricks.
Hendricks began her career as a model for well over a decade. Before her big break, you may have recognized her on shows such as ER, Firefly, and Kevin Hill. But over the years, Hendricks's standout role definitely has been that of Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Her part as the formidable and omniscient '60s office manager on the AMC series garnered her a total of six Emmy nominations during her run between 2007 and 2015. Of course, her momentum on the small screen didn't end with Mad Men. Hendricks also recently appeared as Olivia Rogers on Amazon's The Romanoffs and currently stars as suburban mom-turned-criminal Beth Boland on NBC's Good Girls.

One of 2018's best (and most underrated) films is Widows, Steve McQueen's brutal, raw all-female heist flick that boasts some of the most talented actors in the game: Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, Michelle Rodriguez, and more.
But behind the scenes, McQueen had the help of author Gillian Flynn, whose genius has blessed us with twisted female-led stories like Sharp Objects, Gone Girl, and Dark Places. In the bonus features included in the film's home release, Flynn reveals the serendipitous way she and McQueen teamed up for the film, which she co-wrote.

"Steve McQueen called me, which was a great phone call to get out of the blue," she said of what led her to Widows. "So we've got Steve McQueen? I'm already in. We've got a heist film with four women?...

Three years ago, Gillian Flynn was snubbed in Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars for her “Gone Girl” script, adapted from her own novel of the same name. She’s back in the running this year with another adaptation that could land her first Oscar nomination: “Widows.”
Flynn co-wrote the heist thriller with Steve McQueen, who also directed the film. Based on Lynda La Plante’s ’80s TV crime drama series of the same name, the movie follows the titular widows, led by Veronica (Viola Davis), who plot a heist to pay off crime boss Jamal Manning (Brian Tyree Henry) after their criminal husbands are killed on a job. “Widows” is the second feature film Flynn has written following “Gone Girl.”
Though she was omitted at the Oscars, Flynn did receive Golden Globe and Writers Guild of America nominations for her “Gone Girl” screenplay, and even went home with the Critics’ Choice Award.

Whoever said two wrongs don’t make a right never went to film school...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
There is beauty in the simplicity of a time-honored concept in film. Longstanding cinematic tropes can act as the perfect conduit for some much-needed escapism from the dizzying nature of our day-to-day lives.
Based on the most conventional premise that he’s approached in his career to date, Steve McQueen’s Widows fulfills this criterion of familiarity via the revenge genre. Familiarity here though, doesn’t equal compromise or artistic complacency. In typically subversive fashion, and in keeping with his courageous filmography, this star-studded thriller builds on Lynda La Plante’s drama series of the same name to chart the plight of four bereaved women who refuse to be persecuted for their husbands’ ill-fated deeds. Injected with healthy doses of social commentary that raise pertinent issues around feminism,...

Veteran producer Matt Jackson, whose credits include Molly’s Game and Southside with You, has launched Jackson Pictures and secured a first-look deal with eOne.
Jackson was an executive at several production companies over his long career and was president of production at Im Global when he was named head of film production and acquisitions at The Mark Gordon Company in 2016. Mgc was acquired by eOne in January and the latter company’s Joanne Lee is joining Jackson Pictures as vp.
“Matt is a talented executive who helped us build a diverse slate of films at a critical point in The Mark Gordon Company’s trajectory before we were fully acquired by eOne,” said Mark Gordon, now Mark Gordon, eOne’s President and Chief Content Officer of Film, Television and Digital. “I appreciate his contributions and look forward to working alongside him as an independent producer on future films.”

Chicago – She is the author whose novels are screen friendly. Gillian Flynn has had all three of her books adapted for either television or film, and the latest is a miniseries adaptation of her first novel, which continues on HBO, titled “Sharp Objects.” The series runs eight episodes, and features Amy Adams in the lead role, supported by Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina and Elizabeth Perkins.
“Sharp Objects” centers on Camille Preaker (Adams) as a crime reporter in St. Louis, who is assigned to a murder story in her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri. She is a psychological mess, having just been released from a psychiatric hospital for various ills, and still cannot shake her acute alcoholism. The assignment comes with some baggage, as Camille’s small-town socialite mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson) is back in her life. Further complicating matters is Detective Willis (Chris Messina) as a Kansas City law officer...

It’s a pretty simple chain of events that led to “Sharp Objects” becoming TV fans’ new obsession, especially those who appreciate a touch of Southern Gothic melancholy. As IndieWire learned from the show’s key figures, it began like many shows do: Someone wrote a book.
Specifically, the first novel written by Gillian Flynn and published in 2006. While the author’s later novels, “Dark Places” and “Gone Girl,” made a relatively quick transition to the big screen, Flynn noted that “Sharp Objects” didn’t have the same luck. “[The adaptation rights] had been picked up and dropped and picked up and dropped as a movie, from way back when it was released in 2006,” she said. “It languished, languished, languished.”
Separately, in a moment that she described as “happenstance,” eventual showrunner Marti Noxon stumbled across a copy of Flynn’s “Gone Girl” at a book fair. “I was never really a mystery fan,...

HBO has released a new full trailer for their upcoming limited series Sharp Objects. The dark psychological thriller stars Amy Adams and it's based on the book by Gillian Flynn.
The story follows a reporter named Camille Preaker (Adams), who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. As she tries to "put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely."
If you enjoy the kind of programming that HBO puts out, Sharp Objects looks like a series that you'll want to watch. It seems like it's going to be an intriguing crime thriller.
The eight-episode series also stars Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven. The series will premiere on HBO in July 2018.
