Since its humble beginnings, Fortnite has gone through several evolutions as it offered numerous chapters and seasons with subsequent updates that morphed maps, storylines, gameplay mechanics, and of course the coveted Battle Pass.

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from “Shortcomings, now in theaters.
When Ally Maki received the script for Randall Park’s “Shortcomings,” she read it in one sitting and knew she had to be a part of it. Whether it was just to audition or land the role, “I’d be happy to just perform that piece, the opening which was a nine-pager,” says the actor, who has appeared in shows including “Wrecked” and “Hacks.”
Maki ended up landing the role of Miko, who is in a complicated relationship with her boyfriend, Ben (Justin H. Min) which slowly disintegrates when he is caught surfing porn on the internet, and Miko takes a leap, accepting an internship in New York.
Maki spoke with Variety about working with Park, playing a character that resonated with her own heritage and experiences in the film with a predominantly Aapi cast and her apparel company Asian American Girl Club.

Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger’s winning streak continues. Made on a budget of 4.5 million, Barbarian earned more than 40 million at the domestic box office when it was released by 20th Century Studios last year – a big enough success story that New Line Cinema forked over 38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) New Line then signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind Barbarian. And as part of this deal, they put a sci-fi thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned that New Line Cinema has won another bidding war, this time picking up the haunted house project Occupant from new writer Victor Sweetser… and Cregger is going to be...

It was a flash bomb of an auction. Within 36 hours of first hitting the town, a package featuring a 39-page short story titled “Occupant” and written by newbie Victor Sweetser saw offers zoom from a 25,000 option to a final purchase price of high mid-six figures. There were numerous studios and filmmakers fighting in the trenches for the project — Paramount, Lionsgate, Amazon — but in the end it was New Line that won it.
The early February brouhaha illustrates the hot streak of Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian, which cost 4.5 million to make and then grossed more than 40 million domestically for 20th Century Studios. Cregger is attached to produce Occupant along with frequent partner Roy Lee and Scott Glassgold, who originated and developed the project. Occupant is described as a reverse haunted house story. The filmmaker behind last year's surprise horror hit "Barbarian" has lined up his next movie, and it sounds like Hollywood was absolutely salivating over it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Cregger will next write and direct a new original titled "Weapons," with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema winning the bidding war that emerged over the project. What's more, Cregger managed to score an unusually rich deal for the film, but more on that in a moment.
News of Cregger's follow-up to "Barbarian" hit the town earlier this week and, even before that, studios were said to be trying to nab the rights to the film. Ultimately, New Line bested the competition, and a deal was made quickly. Production is expected to kick off later this year, but there is no word yet on who will star in the film, which is described as another horror effort, though plot details are thin for now.

The buzz had been building for more than two weeks. A new project from Zach Cregger, the out-of-nowhere filmmaker behind the cult horror hit Barbarian, was coming.
There were offers sight unseen, some even hitting eight figures, before the project was taken to market. Producers were calling Cregger’s representatives, begging to be involved. No dice. Nobody was getting a peek until it was to hit the market the morning of Jan. 22.
In the 24 hours after Cregger’s new horror project, Weapons, was sent to Hollywood studios, a brief but intense bidding war exploded. And just as quickly, a whopper of a deal was made.
Closing whirlwind negotiations Tuesday, New Line has won the rights to Weapons, signing a deal that seems unprecedented in modern times, especially for a filmmaker with essentially just one movie under his belt.
Yes, there is the money — eight figures to write and direct — according to sources.

What would you do if you could find out your life's true potential? That's the question plaguing the residents of a small town when a mysterious machine appears in the local general store, with the ability to reveal each person's true destiny. Based on the M.O. Walsh novel of the same name, "The Big Door Prize" sees the small town shaken up by the life-changing predictions of the strange 'Morpho Machine,' which scans their fingerprints and DNA before spitting out a tiny card that encapsulates their life purpose.
I'm not gonna lie — this sounds like a unilaterally terrible idea. First off, the concept of true potential is frighteningly vague all on its own. Is it a goal that each person can achieve but won't necessarily? Don't we already put enough pressure on ourselves without the universe weighing in? Also, the idea of everyone in the town being able to...

The first season of the BBC Three horror comedy series Wreck (formerly known as Wrecked) is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer – and it has been announced that BBC Three has ordered another season of the show from creator / writer Ryan J. Brown and Euston Films! When we first heard about Wreck, Brown said he “wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of Scream, the unsettling atmosphere of The Shining and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of The Cabin in the Woods.” The new season will be filming in Northern Ireland next year.
The first season of Wreck was set aboard The Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows 20-year-old new recruit, Jamie, as he infiltrates the 3000 strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and vanished mid charter.

Eugene Cordero, who plays Time Variance Authority employee Casey / Hunter K-5E in Disney+’s Loki, has been upped to series regular for the upcoming second season. The news was first reported by Deadline, although Marvel has yet to officially comment. Cordero appeared in three episodes of the Tom Hiddleston-led superhero series and quickly won over fans with his comedic hijinx, such as using infinity stones as paperweights and not understanding what a fish is. Cordero is known for his comedic roles, having starred as a series regular in the comedies such as Other Space and Bajillion Dollar Propertie, and more recently, Tacoma Fd and Star Trek: Lower Decks. He’s also appeared in the likes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Grace and Frankie, The Good Place, Veep, Wrecked, and Central Park. Most recently, he starred in the 2022 comedy film Easter Sunday, about a Filipino American family. While Cordero’s part...

Randall Park has cast Justin H. Min, Sherry Cola and Ally Maki to star in his directorial debut “Shortcomings.”
The film, a comedic drama, will also feature Tavi Gevinson (“Gossip Girl”), Debby Ryan, Sonoya Mizuno (“House of The Dragon”), Timothy Simons (“Veep”) and Jacob Batalon (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”).
Described as a “hilariously irreverent examination of racial politics, sexual mores and pop culture,” “Shortcomings” follows a cynical movie theater manager Ben (Min) and his irrepressible best friend Alice (Cola). Together, the Bay Area urbanites navigate Ben’s disintegrating relationship with his girlfriend Miko (Maki), Alice’s serial-dating habits and other obstacles in the way of their personal growth.
The story is based on the graphic novel by Adrian Tomine, who adapted the screenplay and served as an executive producer on the film.
“It was a joy watching these incredibly talented performers bring these characters to life, flaws and all,” Park said.

There was a sense of excitement and, dare it be said, even joy permeating the first in-person Edinburgh International TV Festival since 2019, which came to a close on Friday. Panels were packed, dinners were back and even a garbage collection strike and wet weather couldn’t put a dampener on proceedings as producers, commissioners, executives and talent reunited under one roof to take stock of the industry. It’s been a turbulent few years and signs suggest the ride isn’t over yet. This year’s festival was a chance to take stock, reconnect and look forward.
Below are Variety’s top takeaways from the three-day festival:
1. Make Content Local, But Not Parochial
Local content is big business and the U.S. streamers are committed to projects that reflect the countries they’re operating in. “What we saw when we launched globally in 2016 was all our audiences were crying out for local content,...

Something extremely weird is going on in a rental home in the middle of nowhere. No, truly, I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Directed by Zach Cregger, "Barbarian" at first seems to have a standard "stranger danger" premise, but the trailer hints that things take a mysterious and unexpected turn down the line.

BBC Three have released a selection of first look images and announced a host of up-and-coming faces to join Wrecked, a thrilling comedy horror series created and written by Ryan J. Brown.
Wrecked (working title) is a tense thriller, mixing comedy with a slice of slasher, set aboard The Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows 20-year-old new recruit, Jamie, as he infiltrates the 3000 strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and vanished mid charter. Jamie is initiated into cruise life and gets a crash course on the tribes within the staff: the theatre kids, the mafias and the low-paid workers. For this overworked and underpaid crew, life below deck can be an odyssey of partying and excess… and they remain oblivious to the bloodthirsty murders taking place on board. Jamie is forced to turn detective and uncover the sinister truth.
