Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has helmed many iconic films of the generation. He is the man behind films such as the Indiana Jones franchise, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler’s List. The two-time Oscar nominee has also been vocal about his favorite films and has always considered himself to be a lover of cinema first.
The director has appreciated others’ cinema on multiple occasions. He called Tom Cruise the savior of cinema for his contributions to the theater industry during the pandemic. One film that Spielberg loved, but was still disturbed by, was reportedly Taylor Sheridan’s directorial debut Wind River, which he reportedly saw after its screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

Under Paris, a shark thriller from genre regular Xavier Gens, is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service on June 5th – but producers Sébastien Auscher and Edouard Duprey have been hit with a parasitism lawsuit filed by filmmaker Vincent Dietschy, who claims that Under Paris resembles a project called Silure, which he began working on in 2011. According to Deadline, if a judge rules in favor of Dietschy at the initial hearing on June 14th, Netflix might have to remove Under Paris just days after its release, as Dietschy’s lawyer has requested that the release of the film be suspended while the parasitism lawsuit makes its way through the court system.
Dietschy says he registered Silure with France’s rights management body Sacd in 2012. Going by article 1240 of France’s Civil Code, parasitism is what it’s called when “one party follows in the footsteps of another party...

Last April, the Netflix streaming service unveiled a pair of first look images from the then-untitled shark thriller genre regular Xavier Gens has been working on for them. Now a trailer for the film has made its way online, revealing that it’s going by the title Under Paris and is scheduled to begin streaming on June 5th! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Starring Bérénice Bejo, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in the silent film The Artist, Léa Léviant of Mortel, and Nassim Lyes of Overdose, this shark thriller has the following synopsis: Set in the Summer of 2024, the film unfolds in Paris which is hosting the World Triathlon Championships on the Seine for the first time. Sophia, a brilliant scientist, learns from Mika, a young environmental activist, that a large shark is swimming deep in the river. To avoid a bloodbath at the heart of the city,...

There are sharks all up in the Seine in Netflix’s upcoming aquatic horror, Under Paris. Here’s the first trailer.
At some point, sharks will club together and get a PR manager; until then, we’ll keep getting films like Jaws, Sharknado, and upcoming efforts like Beast Of War, Something In The Water and Renny Harlin’s Deep Water.
To the ever-growing list we can now add Under Paris, coming to a small screen near you this summer courtesy of Netflix. If you haven’t gathered already: yes, the film really is about sharks swimming up the Seine to terrorise all the hundreds of people that (presumably) swim in Paris’ waters on any given day.
Yes, it’s all incredibly silly, but if the trailer’s anything to go by, everyone involved knows it’s all incredibly silly. Under Paris is directed by Xavier Gens, who broke through with the extremely gory 2007 indie horror,...

Popularly known as the internet’s ‘daddy’, Pedro Pascal has recently been one of the most popular faces in the industry. He has been a part of several renowned films and TV shows. Before attaining such popularity, the actor had also seen his fair share of struggle in his early days when he did not have money to even pay his rent. However, Buffy the Vampire Slayer played a key role during that time and saved his career.

Plot: A model prisoner’s leave ends in tragedy when his past resurfaces, forcing him to flee. He starts over in Thailand, until a local criminal coerces him back into crime. After this man attacks his family, he vows revenge.
Review: Xavier Gens burst onto the horror scene with 2007’s Frontier(s) and I thought he’d be quite the name by this point. He followed that up with the often maligned Hitman and all but disappeared from US Cinemas. After finding success with Lupin, I’m hoping that Mayhem! serves as the beginning of a bit of a revival for Gens. Because despite its issues, there is a lot of potential here.
The story of Mayhem! follows Sam, a professional fighter whose whole life is turned upside down when he’s forced to flee the country. He ends up in Thailand and rebuilds his life but his past catches...

The original title for Xavier Gens’s Mayhem! was Farang, a word that describes the main character’s status in Thailand. A martial artist and ex-con, Sam (Nassim Lyes) is also a foreigner, and a Westerner at that, having fled his native France. The title change is understandable, meant to reach the broader audience that might take interest in the film’s bloody revenge story, though it risks setting the wrong expectations. After all, long stretches of Mayhem! pass with little in the way of actual mayhem, especially in its first hour.
The film, written by Gens and Magali Rossito, initially focuses on Sam’s daily life after he’s released on day parole and does an honest day’s work at a construction site. But trouble soon finds Sam, and after a brief chase and scuffle that leaves one man dead, Mayhem! essentially hits reset and jumps forward five years.

In William Shatner's film "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," the U.S.S. Enterprise is hijacked by a hippie Vulcan cult leader named Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) and flown to the very center of the Milky Way. In reality, the galaxy's center is the site of a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A*. In "Frontier," Sybok believes it's where God lives. Not a spiritual conduit to God, mind you, but the actual physical body of God Himself. Kirk (Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) think Sybok is mad, but are dragged along in his mad scheme.
When the Enterprise arrives at its destination, however, it seems for a few moments that Sybok is right. He and the Enterprise crew encounter and land on a mysterious planet, and God Himself (George Murdock) appears. Everyone is awestruck ... except for Kirk. When God asks the mortal characters for a starship to spread His Word,...

In case you missed it, Triple Frontier was released on Netflix in March 2019. The big-budget action movie starred Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, and Pedro Pascal, who played former special forces operatives uniting to steal a drug lord’s fortune. Now, nearly five years later, it looks like a sequel might be on the way.
The movie did relatively well for Netflix despite not being a slam dunk by any stretch. Rumors of a sequel have circled for years, but this year, it looks like plans have been put in place for a sequel.
Our sources told us that development began on Triple Frontier 2 just before the strikes began in May 2023, and midway through the strikes, we got told that the plan was to continue with development following the end of the strikes, which thankfully came to an end in November.

Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy franchise) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom) are teaming with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto on The Wrecking Crew, the buddy action comedy that they’ve set up at MGM, Deadline can confirm.

Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa to Team for ‘Wrecking Crew’ From ‘Blue Beetle’ Director Ángel Manuel Soto
Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto has lined up another feature: He’s set to helm The Wrecking Crew, an MGM project that is expected to star Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. Both stars were in talks for the film before the actors strike commenced last month, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Wrecking Crew is described as a buddy comedy, with other details kept under wraps.

The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh). Co-written by Nick Cutter and Ian Weir based on Cutter’s novel, its mix of haunted house and mad scientist themes attracted a lot of pre-release buzz which I was hoping it would live up to.
John Hawkins has one week left as sheriff of Lone Crow. Then he can put the town, and his ex Meg, behind him and start a new job in the city. That, of course, means something terrible has to happen before he can leave. And it does when a canoe bearing the mutilated remains of theoretical physicist Cole Parsons washes up at a local park.

A few weeks ago, it was announced that New Regency was gearing up to go into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was set to direct the film, and Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) had been cast in lead roles. Filming is now underway, and Deadline has revealed that 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers has been cast as the title character! He is definitely going to be one intimidating psycho killer.
Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband.

This Star Trek: Picard review contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 6
The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard finally puts the proverbial band back together in “The Bounty,” and, to the likely surprise of no one, it’s the best episode of the season. It’s true, the bulk of this hour is pure fan service and contains elements that seem to be there for no reason other than they will utterly delight those who loved Star Trek: The Next Generation. But it’s hard to argue with a classic simply playing the hits when they’re executed with this much verve and heart. Particularly when they’re integrated so seamlessly into the larger story the season is telling.
From a slow-motion panorama across many of Star Trek’s most famous starships—including Captain Kirk’s U.S.S. Enterprise and Seven’s former home, the U.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez married in Vegas in July 2022. But in August, the couple had a big three-day celebration at Affleck’s massive estate in Riceboro, Georgia. While the pair seemed very excited about the wedding, some fans didn’t approve of the location. Many wondered why the couple held the wedding at Affleck’s plantation-style home, allegedly built on unmarked slave graves.

Last Things. In October, the Sundance Film Festival announced that it was canceling its New Frontier program for experimental and artists’ cinema at its 2023 edition. Citing the need to “reflect upon the rich learnings of the last two years,” which were presented online due to Covid-19, and “evaluate the shifting media landscape,” the festival seemed to be cutting ties with its sole section dedicated to noncommercial, nonindustrial forms of filmmaking. While disheartening at a glance, the decision may prove beneficial for the program, which as it turns out isn’t being scrapped, but instead reimagined—a potentially promising development for a section that over time had essentially become a platform for VR projects and emerging technologies rather than a haven for more artisanal filmmaking practices as it was originally conceived. While we await the results, this year’s drastically reduced New Frontier program promised a “return to roots,” a claim...

As someone who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, Babak Jalali’s sophomore feature “Fremont” piqued my interest. It joins a few other titles at Sundance which explore the intricacies of this ethnically-complex area, like the Sf-based 1970s bohemian memoir “Fairyland” and the absolute psychosis of Asian American dating in Berkeley-centric “Shortcomings.” Unlike the previous two titles, however, “Fremont” feels noticeably distant. Jajali’s unfamiliarity with the area — and his subject — is palpable. As a result, “Fremont” delivers more lip service than it does actual story, feeling more like a checked box than it does a matter of consequence.
“Fremont” was nominated for Sundance Film Festival’s Next section.
At first glance, the premise of “Fremont” is quirky. The black-and-white narrative feature revolves around Donya (Anaita Wali Zada), a Fremont-based Afghan refugee who works at a fortune cookie factory in San Francisco. At first, she and...

Over 20 years ago, Irreversible was the film that turned Gaspar Noé into an auteur known worldwide. It was mainly notorious for two elements: its unconventional structure – kicking off with the end credits to tell its story backwards – and certainly its incredibly rough sequence that depicted rape. Noé was even associated with the so-called New French Extremity, though I personally think more in horror films like High Tension, Frontier(s) and Martyrs when that label is brought up. In 2019, at the Venice Film Festival, Noé first presented his new approach to Irreversible: the Straight Cut. Thanks to Altered Innocence, Irreversible: Straight Cut is finally having a theatrical release in the US. On Friday, February 10, it’ll open...

Oscar-nominated director Florian Zeller and Federica Sainte-Rose have boarded Babak Jalali’s Sundance-bound “Fremont” under their new banner Blue Morning Pictures.
The movie will world premiere in the Next section at Sundance and is repped by CAA in the U.S., while Memento International is handling international sales.
Helmed by Jalali, an Iranian-born, London-based director, the black-and-white film delivers a warm portrait of a young Afghan woman haunted by her past, who decides to start a new life in California.
The film tells the story of Donya, a 20-something former translator for the U.S. military in Afghanistan, who now works for a Chinese fortune cookie factory in San Francisco. A new immigrant, she struggles to put her life back in order. In a moment of sudden revelation, she decides to send out a special message in a cookie.

When you think of Jason Momoa, you probably recall his time as Khal Drogo, the frighting war lord who spoke little and murdered plenty in the first season of "Game of Thrones." Or maybe you think of Arthur Curry, the muscle-bound King of Atlantis who is due to wield his trident at some point in 2023. If you're really cool, then you probably remember his time as the wonderfully named warm hugger and badass swordmaster Duncan Idaho. But the point is this: various roles have established Momoa as an oft-shirtless, very dangerous-looking muscly guy. This is exactly why he jumped at a chance to star in "Slumberland," where he plays the imaginary friend of any kid's dream.

Chennai, Oct 15 (Ians) The global space sector is moving away from geo-statellites and towards the constellation of small satellites in low earth orbit, a senior official of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (In-SPACe) said on Saturday.
In his address at the conference ‘Space Technology: The Next Business Frontier’, Prof. Rajeev Jyoti, Distinguished Scientist, Director (Technical), In-SPACe, said the space sector, in the next 10 years, is shifting from geo-satellites to constellation of satellites.
He said there are estimates that 10,000 satellites are likely to be launched in the near future.
Jyoti said the space sector must be taken forward by entrepreneurs and space business instead of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) being the only integrator of the entire space ecosystem.
“According to a newly-announced policy, if a space object is not functionally working, it has to be removed within five years in order to avoid space debris in place of the earlier 25 years.

Exploring Paris’ working-class suburbs with a fresh set of eyes while reframing the immigrant experience under a more incisive lens, a dynamic generation is blazing new trails in French cinema.
And if artists like “Saint Omer” filmmaker Alice Diop, “Athena” co-writer Ladj Ly, and “The Gravity” writer/director Cedric Ido share little in common but age – interestingly enough, all were born within one or two years of one another – the group’s shared spotlight in Venice and Toronto certainly reflects a rise in opportunity for diverse perspectives.
“Today, we do see renewal,” says Unifrance managing director Daniela Elstner. “There’s an altogether new breath, a young generation looking to change, to dare, and to propose new kinds of films, [and with that] a willingness on the part of festival programmers to welcome these filmmakers into main competitions a little bit faster than before.”
Of course, opportunities tend to compound and build, so before...

The last couple of years, courtesy of the pandemic, have seen the Sundance Film Festival replace its in-person presence with a fully digital program. For this coming January, Sundance is readying for a full return to normal, but in 2023 will once again add a streaming component to its live festivities.
The festival takes place January 19 through 29, 2023, in-person, with an on-demand, curated selection to launch on Tuesday, January 24 with select films available to view online for those not in Park City or Salt Lake City, Utah.
The digital offering showcases an on-demand, curated selection of feature films from the 2023 Festival, including all competition titles, as well as exciting work across other sections of the feature film program, alongside episodic work and short films. The 2023 Festival culminates with weekend screenings of this year’s Sundance Award-winning films on January 28–29, both in person and online.

Making its world premiere at Fantasia, The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh).
And it does when a canoe bearing the mutilated remains of...
