Slow but good start

Greetings from Lithuania.

So the 6th season of "Homeland" started quite slowly, but interestingly nevertheless. I have a couple of thoughts of were this season is going to, but leave it to "Homeland" to surprise you more then once and in the best way when things will start to rolling - it happened before, i'm sure it will happened in season 6 as well.

There are like ~3 main story lines so far and while they didn't intersect yet nor it is clear how things will take its shape, i do enjoyed these two episodes although this is a bit slow start even for "Homeland" but yet again this is not a complain - there will be a major plot arc pretty soon and it has to be built on something and these first two episodes are exactly what it is - the story is being set up.

Overall, superb acting by everyone involved, great plausible and intriguing writing - its all what made previous seasons great are here. Now we just need to wait to things to get heating up. It will.

The crazy man in the basement and the crazy woman watching him.

Warning: Spoilers
Quinn has become the focal point of the show. He's been through everything: Beaten, shot, poisoned, tortured ... the list goes on. So its no surprise that he's majorly screwed up. But the way the show drags it all out is unnerving. I mean get on with it already. This is a TV show, not real life. I've had enough of his drama, in spite of how much he must en joy the diversity in acting responsibilities. Making matters worse is the queen of all lunatics, Carrie, who's eyes are so buggy with either rage or anguish or hatred or something that she can't have a single conversation without a meltdown. It's really obnoxious and I cannot wait for her to be forced back to work at the agency. At one time, a season ago, she was fighting terrorists. Now she's defending them. Seriously? On top of that she maintains ties with a military-hating billionaire philanthropist and now advises the female president elect who openly opposes military anything. I don't know where this show's going, but I'm not going anywhere until Carrie Matheson is dragged back to work doing exactly what she hates. So no, I don't like her character and never have.

The Setup

The story with Quinn is still very depressing, but the legal battle with Secu is getting more interesting as is the story involving the President Elect. It's still running slowly overall but the storylines for the season are being set up nicely (I think, tbd).

Reformed sinners are boring

As I feared, Carrie is now atoning for her past, being snooty with former mentor Saul. All that she proves to me is that she is ungrateful and an unredeemable liar. In fact, Carrie's only constant feature is her lying to everybody to suit her needs. Her sneaking behind people's back is also none too endearing, but Carrie must get what she wants.

Elsewhere, Carrie proves to be a liar (I already mentioned it, but it's just so glaring) with the only emotional and true scene at the end with Quinn, Homeland unsung hero.

PS just in case the authors think they're making Carrie a post-modern, anti-hero, role model because she's now a mother doing pro-bono work (or whatever), I think the result is quite the opposite. Carrie is an unreliable, unbalanced, selfish, self-centred woman with an "holier-than-thou" attitude - see her telling Saul that she doesn't have time to "save the world" because she's doing something more important (eyes roll).
