Every. Season. Counts.
The Bear's renewal for simultaneously filmed third and fourth seasons was sweet dad-rock music to the ears of critics and audiences alike.
After sweeping the Emmys and benefiting from word-of-mouth buzz around its Christmas-themed episode "Fishes," the show was practically guaranteed renewal to give us at least one more season with the volatile and tight-knit Berzattos.
An Interesting Experiment
Capitalizing on the moment by filming back-to-back seasons was a smart move for the series and might become a trend for other shows.
Logistically it makes sense to take advantage of utilizing a show's cast and crew for two seasons in one go, instead of having to align all of those schedules again in another eighteen months or so.
In the current landscape of surprise cancellations, it also makes creative sense for a show to film a multi-season arc without the worry of ending on a cliffhanger.

Our TV choices say a lot about our personalities. If we only watch analytical docudramas or super historically accurate shows, it probably means that we use these series to learn about something and try not to waste our time on meaningless stuff. But is it really bad to binge bizarre shows?
Of course, documentaries can be riveting, but sometimes you just need something to turn your brain off and help you relax. We think the best shows to give you that feeling are the weird comedies (sometimes with a little pinch of supernatural thrown in).
Resident Alien is the perfect example of a show that is both lighthearted and easy to watch, but also extremely interesting in its storytelling and with complex characters worth following.
So if you liked that show, these 5 will be to your taste as well.

It’s always tricky to say goodbye to things you never wanted to give up in the first place. Anything done on demand makes you annoyed and wanting to punch those responsible for your decisions. So when Netflix cancels a popular original series, fans go furious.
Mixing genres is not easy, but sometimes something really beautiful can come out of this approach. Like it happened with the series called Santa Clarita Diet that premiered in 2017.
The show features two amazing actors Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as the main couple, Sheila and Joel Hammond. The married couple is from a small city in California, Santa Clarita, and they both are real estate agents.
They live a happy life, but one day something terrible happens that changes everything forever. Sheila started becoming…. a zombie! Now the two of them have to find out a way to keep that a secret, which...

Exclusive: Actress Cara Santana (Daughter of the Bride) will make her directorial debut with The Shuffle, a documentary on the corruption of the addiction treatment industry, which she’s producing alongside Andrew Renzi’s North of Now.
Developed over the last two years, The Shuffle follows what she says is a $43B-a-year con that’s proliferated in the U.S. through the brokering and trafficking of vulnerable people in recovery by profiting off of their insurance. The film is said to go to the heart of why America has the largest drug epidemic in the Western world — the profit is in the treatment, not the cure.
“Sober for 20 years, I started noticing the disturbing trend of patient brokering in the rehabilitation industry which was ripe for insurance fraud, but what I uncovered was a massive $43B a year con,” Santana told Deadline. “After developing the story for over 2 years, I...

While underrated upon its release, as John Carpenter’s The Thing failed to make it big commercially following its competition with other sci-fi releases at the time, time has been kind to it. Not only has the sci-fi horror gone on to garner cult status, but many have also deemed it among one of the greatest films the genre has to offer, even deeming it more important than Carpenter’s Halloween.
And the film’s influence is significantly visible in InnerSloth LLC’s Among Us. Hence, it only makes sense for the upcoming adaptation of the game to take further inspiration from the horror, and following its synopsis, it seems like the case.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

As Halloween approaches, U.S. audiences consistently demonstrate an increased appetite for horror content. Historically, TV show demand within the horror genre surges each October, and 2023 is anticipated to be no exception. The chart below shows demand peaks for horror TV series during the months of October in the last years.
The fluid nature of the entertainment sector ensures that the horror genre remains ever-evolving. Within this genre, audience preferences shift, as new shows introduce trends and captivate viewers, while interest in others wanes. A case in point is the burgeoning popularity of horror-comedy shows.
In the first quarter of 2021, this sub-genre accounted for 10.8% of the total horror show demand. Fast forward to two and a half years later, and its market share has risen to 17.4%. Contrastingly, suspense horrors, the frontrunners in the genre, have seen their demand slip from 72.6% to 66.4% during this timeframe.

The murder mystery, which hit shelves last week from William Morrow, has been described as Gilmore Girls meets Only Murders in the Building as it follows a grandmother-mother-daughter trio of amateur sleuths.
The whodunit sees an older, high-powered businesswoman convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter and granddaughter. When the granddaughter discovers a body while kayaking and becomes a suspect, the trio, all fiercely independent, must come together to solve the crime, uncovering all sorts of secrets in the town along the way.
Simon, who previously wrote two nonfiction books, became inspired to write a novel after her mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. During doctors’ visits and chemo sessions, Simon posited the idea of a murder mystery,...

Having struggled for years with substance abuse, Barrymore fought her way back into the industry and has been able to consolidate her childhood fame with roles in popular movies and TV shows, from Charlie’s Angels to Poison Ivy, Batman Forever, 50 First Dates, Santa Clarita Diet, and lots more. Netflix’s zombie comedy series, Santa Clarita Diet, stunned fans for a total of three seasons. It was fun, witty, and never quite took itself too seriously when it came to the overall zombie lore. The story itself follows the suburban family Joel (Timothy Olyphant), Shiela (Drew Barrymore), and their daughter Abby (Liv Hewson). When Shiela catches some sort of bug that totally changes her outlook on life, her family is left scrambling behind her to pick up the pieces (literally). Needless to say, it was a fun take on the zombie genre, and not just because of the storyline. The...

Drew Barrymore was escorted off the stage during a special event Monday night in New York, following a crowd disruption.
The talk show host and Santa Clarita Diet star appeared at the 92nd Street Y as part of the Recanati-Kaplan Talks series for a conversation and performance supporting the release of singer-songwriter and actress Reneé Rapp’s new LP Snow Angel.
Just a few minutes into their conversation, a man in the crowd interrupted their discussion at the Upper East Side event space, briskly walking down the aisle toward the stage after shouting Barrymore’s name. The man identified himself before speaking to the actress by a name that sounded like Chad Michael Busto, according to a Hollywood Reporter writer who was present, as well as other outlets who reported on the disruption captured by an attendee and posted to TikTok.

Actor Timothy Olyphant experienced a career highlight after being cast in Justified. The effect the series has had on his career, and the perception of him as an actor, felt like committing a crime to the veteran.

Olyphant’s acting career seemed to move at a slow pace before nabbing the hit TV series Justified. The Santa Clarita Diet star enjoyed success in supporting film roles and television shows such as Deadwood. But up until Justified, Olyphant’s prospects and opportunities in the film industry were usually uncertain.
“Honestly, I feel like I spent the last 10 years just trying to work, just get my hands on the best material I could. I’d like to say that it was quite calculated and genius, my ability to take one step forward and two steps back,” Olyphant once told Entertainment Weekly.

Actor and Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant spent six seasons honing his performance as Raylan Givens in the television series Justified. But the show’s revival saw a few new faces debuting in the limited series, including Olyphant’s daughter.
The actor recently confided, however, that working alongside his daughter resulted in a subtle change in his performance.

The limited series Justified: City Primeval showed Olyphant’s Raylan Givens in a different period in his life. The sequel takes place a decade after the original series ended, with Givens changing location from Kentucky to Miami.
The time lapse also allowed the show to explore Olyphant’s relationship with his characters’ daughter Willa Givens. In the original Justified, the daughter was usually played by a couple of child actors. With Primeval featuring a much older Willa,...

If you find yourself, during the first two episodes of Max’s “Full Circle,” pointing excitedly at the screen when you see the literal circle for which the show is named, you are not alone.
Ed Solomon and Steven Soderbergh’s limited series follows the interconnected lives surrounding a kidnapping in New York City, but those threads are still obscured during the first two episodes which premiered Thursday on Max. Here’s what we know: Savitri Mahabir (Cch Pounder) wants revenge for her brother’s death, and that revenge will be exacted by kidnapping and possibly killing the child of a wealthy white family. Doing this will break the cycle (complete the circle) of her family’s luck and free them of unwanted negative energy. All of that is set up in Episode 1, along with a dizzying number of character introductions. It’s a credit to...

Cannibal stories are a tough nut to crack as they automatically turn off a large part of the audience just from their central concept. Yet, as proven by shows such as Santa Clarita Diet, there is still an audience for them. Adapted from the hit podcast, The Horror of Dolores Roach also takes a ton of inspiration from Sweeney Todd. If you know anything about that story, then it’s fairly easy to see where Dolores Roach goes during its runtime. And there are many satisfying twists and turns along the way to keep you interested. But it’s the performances that really make the show stand out. So I was excited to be able to chat with stars Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernadez, Kita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman about just how much they bring to the table. Because it’s a lot. So join me as we get into...

It’s been four years since Netflix canceled Santa Clarita Diet, and some people — including its star Drew Barrymore — still have a hard time letting go. It’s hard to blame them. The series’s final season was one of its best (just check the Rotten Tomatoes score) and things ended on a major cliffhanger. Even more disappointing is that showrunner Victor Fresno seemed to have a clear vision for where things would go from there. The sting of the comedy’s demise may not go away anytime soon, but the consolation is that its many talented cast members are booked and busy, starring in some of the most exciting series of 2023.

Comedy queen and director of Plan B talks about contraception, last year’s Dobbs decision and the importance of connection
It’s not yet noon in Portland when Natalie Morales repairs to a modest Airbnb and plops on to a couch next to a deep-slumbering lap hound named Taco, a very good dog. Morales is filming a feature about veterans with Ptsd that’s only pressing on through the writers’ strike because it’s an independent film. Its small budget and tight schedule has Morales on call six days a week. But intense work schedules are nothing new for the 38-year-old multi-hyphenate dark comedy queen, whose deadpan acting credits run from Parks and Recreation to Santa Clarita Diet to The Morning Show. She also stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence in No Hard Feelings, which opened in theaters last weekend.

Sometimes, TV shows end at the perfect time.
There are many variables that go into having a TV show on the air, and it can govern when they end.
We've rounded up some of the TV shows that ended far too soon, and frankly, it still hurts.
1. The Society - Netflix The coming-of-age drama focused on a group of teenagers in a town without adults. It had compelling characters and a solid mystery. Despite landing a renewal, the show was canceled due to production delays caused by Covid-19. This might be one of the worst decisions Netflix has ever made. 2. Santa Clarita Diet - Netflix Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant toplined this comedy about an undead realtor. The series had a devoted fanbase, but Netflix shocked everyone when it canceled the show after three seasons. And, no, there was no closure in sight. Boo. Netflix again? We're sensing a pattern.

Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” has a large ensemble of actors worthy of Emmy consideration, from established stars like Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci to up-and-comers like Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sophie Nélisse who play their younger counterparts. But one cast member, Liv Hewson, has removed themselves from contention, due to the gendered categories of the Television Academy’s awards.
Hewson, a nonbinary Australian actor also known for their work on Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet,” told Variety that they made the decision not to submit themselves for consideration to the Emmy Awards. Hewson opted out of submitting because they would either be placed in the supporting actor or supporting actress in a drama categories, as all Emmy categories are split into male and female honorees.
“There’s not a place for me in the acting categories,” Hewson told Variety. “It would be inaccurate for me to submit myself as an actress.

Devi Vishwakumar is back for one more round of misadventures, as Netflix has just announced a release date for "Never Have I Ever" season 4. The fourth season of the high school-set comedy is poised to be its last, and while we're not quite ready to say goodbye to these vibrant weirdos and their not-finished-cooking teen brains yet, the final episodes look like a lot of fun.
Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher's Netflix comedy about a group of high school geeks led by horny, adventure-seeking Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) has been lauded from its first season for its surprisingly poignant examination of grief and stereotype-bucking Indian-American representation. Yellowjackets is back and breaking more records for Showtime, and we're not surprised.
The series burst onto the scene in 2021, delivering a compelling concept and fine acting, becoming one of the buzziest shows on the air.

But how well did Yellowjackets Season 2 Episode 1 perform?
Showtime has revealed that the highly-anticipated return secured nearly 2 million viewers across platforms.

The Universal horror-comedy Renfield reimagines classic horror characters in modern-day New Orleans, with Dracula’s beleaguered henchman realizing he’s been trapped in a toxic relationship for roughly a century.
Bloody Disgusting spent a day on set, getting acquainted with Nicholas Hoult’s new take on Renfield, the bug-eating righthand to Dracula, and learning more about the expansive supernatural world within director Chris McKay’s horror-comedy.
In part one of our set visit, we observed an early scene where Nicholas Hoult’s Renfield arrived late to a battle between Dracula (Nicolas Cage) and a group of vampire hunters. Later in the day, the lucky handful of journalists invited to set witnessed Cage in feral Dracula mode, ruthlessly dispatching his enemies with sharp teeth and claws.
The scene, which involved numerous shredded and maimed bodies, highlighted McKay’s affinity for horror and practical effects. When asked about his approach to reinterpreting classic characters like Dracula,...

Annie Wersching, a veteran TV actress who starred in 24 and Bosch, has died at age 45 after a two-year cancer battle. Stephen Full, Wersching’s husband, paid tribute to his late wife in a statement to Deadline on Sunday, January 29. “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today,” he wrote. “But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.” Wersching married Full, a TV actor who had roles on Dog With a Blog and Santa Clarita Diet, at their Los Angeles home in 2009, per People. The CEO of Netflix has said that the streaming giant has never “cancelled a successful show” – leaving many subscribers incredulous.
Earlier this week, co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters gave an interview to Bloomberg.
The interviewer asked the duo: “How was the evolution of your business affected your relationship with the creative community?” adding that people online are “constantly” outage about shows being cancelled.
Sarandos answered: “We have never cancelled a successful show. A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget.
“The key to it is you have to be able to talk to a small audience on a small budget and a large audience at a large budget. If you do that well, you can do that forever.”
Sarandos did not make it clear on how Netflix measures the success of a TV show, but his comments have...

Since “The Drew Barrymore Show” premiered in 2020, the talk show hosted by the beloved star of “Santa Clarita Diet” and “E.T.” has attracted headlines for dozens of bizarre, often borderline absurdist segments — such as the time Barrymore interviewed the cast of “Dear Evan Hansen” while (somewhat inexplicably) in character as Josie Geller, the lead of her 1999 romantic comedy “Never Been Kissed.” Now, that interview has received an unofficial followup with Wednesday’s show, where Barrymore invited Allison Williams into the studio by dressing as the main character from the “Girls” star’s most recent film, the horror hit “M3gan.”
In “M3gan,” Williams plays a roboticist and toy inventor who develops a lifelike robot doll to take care of her orphaned niece, only for her creation to go off her intended programming with tragic consequences. For the recent Oscar nominee announcer’s guest spot on the show Barrymore surprises the actor...
