“I definitely felt a responsibility,” admits Lenny Kravitz of being tasked with ending the film “Rustin” with an original song. The Netlix movie follows the unsung story of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo) as he orchestrates the infamous 1963 March on Washington. Through conversations with Domingo and director George C. Wolfe, and a period of quiet reflection, Kravitz turned out the inspiring song “Road to Freedom” which soars through the end credits. It recently earned the artist a Golden Globe nomination. Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Roadside Attractions has debuted an official trailer for indie disappearance mystery drama American Woman, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year (but it hasn't played at any other festivals). Originally titled The Burning Woman while in development, the film is the latest from English director Jake Scott (of Welcome to the Rileys) and stars Sienna Miller as a woman whose teenage daughter Bridget mysteriously disappears. She is left to raise her young grandson and navigates the trials and tribulations of subsequent years, until a long-awaited discovery of the truth is revealed. Oh boy, what do you think it is?! Perhaps you can figure it out. The cast includes Christina Hendricks, Aaron Paul, Amy Madigan, Will Sasso, Sky Ferreira, Alex Neustaedter, Macon Blair, and Pat Healy. Give it a look. As the trailer for “American Woman” says, having your child go missing is truly a mother’s worst nightmare. And in the new drama, audiences will see just what happens to a mother that is on a mission to find out where her missing daughter is.
But this isn’t the set up for some sort of “Taken”-style thriller. No, “American Woman” is a drama about how the loss of a child, even one that is grown, can lead a mother to go to extremes and risk her own sanity to find out what happened.

One part whodunnit, one part character drama, Jake Scott’s “American Woman” follows its eponymous leading lady over the course of a decade, one marked by heartbreak and a terrible crime. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, where Miller’s performance earned her some of the best reviews of her career yet.
The film picks up as Miller’s Deb Callahan approaches her mid-thirties in a poor Rust Belt town, mixed up in a life that’s already been marred by some terrible choices. Deb is barely holding things together, from her thankless job as a supermarket cashier to her ill-advised romance with a local married man, and her teenage daughter Bridget (Sky Ferreira) seems doomed to repeat her mom’s mistakes. As the two Callahan women try to carve out a better life for Bridget’s own baby, tragedy strikes when Bridget goes missing.

Like its source material, Susan Choi‘s novel of the same name, the plot of “American Woman” is inspired by a period in the life of kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst. Patty becomes “Pauline” in the feature-length adaptation, and the terrorist organization that abducted her, the Sla (Symbionese Liberation Army), becomes the “Pal,” but the story will otherwise still inspire feelings of déjà vu for those even remotely familiar with Hearst’s life story.

Kent Alterman’s plan for Paramount Network, which he took over last fall as president, is for it to steer clear of New York or Los Angeles.
In fact, for Paramount Network, the setting is as much a part of the show as any of the actors. “Part of what makes ‘Yellowstone’ work is that it’s not a very L.A. or New York-centric show,” Alterman told TheWrap.
“Setting as a character has been a really valuable piece [for us].”

Alterman pointed out that the network’s first original program, “Waco,” and its first hit, “Yellowstone,” even derive their names from where they take place. “[‘Yellowstone’] is kind of a modern day western that really reflects the middle part of the country,” he said. “It has a very broad appeal, but not broadcast-level quality.”
