Film distributor Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the documentary “The Mandela Effect Phenomenon” from writer-director Robert Kiviat. Uncork’d plans a July 9 digital release.
The Mandela Effect refers to the psychological phenomenon of a group of people misremembering well-documented facts or events. Some take this a step further and assume their confusion stems from the truths of other realities entering their own. The phrase “Mandela Effect” was coined by paranormal researcher Fiona Broome, who in 2009, thought former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela had died in prison when he had been released in 1990.
“The Mandela Effect Phenomenon” zeros in on those who believe the sensation stems from supernatural intervention. According to the official logline, the documentary claims “something mind-blowing is happening where half the world’s population swear reality’s been altered, like they come from another timeline. Millions claim movies are different, and TV show titles, celebrities’ names, logos and brands,...

Liam Neeson may have famously played a man who had his daughter stolen from him back in 2008, but nearly a decade earlier he committed a far more serious theft himself: He stole an iconic line from poor Samuel L. Jackson.
Jackson's tenure in the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy is famous for his many fun requests for his character, like his purple lightsaber. "We had this big arena, this fight scene with all these Jedi," he explained on The Graham Norton Show, "And I was like, well s**t, I wanna be able to find myself in this big ol' scene. So I said to George, 'You think maybe I can get a purple lightsaber?'" One of Jackson's other hopes for his character, which was admittedly far less important, was that he'd get to be the first one in the movie to say that line, "May the force be with you.

In the sequel to Sean S. Cunningham‘s game changer, poor Alice (Adrienne King) is brutally killed off immediately. After a five-year-jump, a new group of horny counsellors prepare to open Camp Blood. Last year felt not too dissimilar to dystopian sci-fi with the Pentagon officially releasing “unidentified aerial phenomena” footage, reports of sonic booms beneath our oceans, monoliths popping up around the globe, self-propelling space rocks entering our solar system, Trump demanding all US UFO documents be declassified by June, and all against the apocalyptic backdrop of a global pandemic.

In the first of a long list of titles stepping into the Specialty box office space is the French period drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire from director Céline Sciamma. The film, which stars Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel, was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival where Sciamma made history as the first woman to win the Queer Palm. It became a buzzworthy title during it festival run and will now have an exclusive one-week qualifying run in New York at the Angelika and in Los Angeles at the Arclight. Seeing as how it is a romantic drama, it will open in the top markets on Valentine’s Day of next year before expanding throughout the country in February and March.

"Either we're sliding between parallel realities... or it's a simulation, and it's glitching out." Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for a trippy, indie sci-fi thriller titled The Mandela Effect, the latest made by filmmaker David Guy Levy. For those unfamiliar, the "Mandela Effect" is the theory that people collectively misremember something (the best example being: The Berenstain Bears). The odd feeling of being wrong makes some start to question reality or believe in alternate timelines. This plays with that concept and takes it even further, throwing in some The Matrix and Source Code vibes. The film follows a man who becomes obsessed with facts and events that have been collectively misremembered by thousands of people. Believing the phenomena to be the symptom of something much larger, his obsession eventually leads him to question reality itself. The film stars Charlie Hofheimer, Aleksa Palladino, Robin Lord Taylor, Madeleine McGraw, and Clarke Peters.

X-Files Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering Chris Carter's 10-episode continuation of the X-Files television series. Some late-night chatter overheard at a diner: “The world’s gone mad…” says Martin (Dan Zukovic), a man of wild stare and clammy brow. “…because Martians have invaded, but nobody seems to care!” The eatery’s owner, Buddy (Alex Diakun), tries to calm the guy down with a bit of coffee and straight talk, but Martin—convinced that these extraterrestrial invaders are using some kind of mind-erasing laser gun—isn’t having it. His paranoia is soon proven true, since Martin turns out to be one of the bulbous-headed, multi-appendage aliens and Buddy is actually Satan himself. (What a twist!) But just before the big reveal, a fearful Martin points down the counter, right at the camera—at us, the audience, watching. “There! I just saw one!” he says, “Outside through that window!

So far, in my opinion, The X-Files Season 11 has been awesome, but it looks like the best is yet to come! Fox has released a mid-season trailer that gives us an extended look at the upcoming episodes including the episode that aired last night. Things certainly look like they are going to get crazy!
Last night's episode was called “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat” and it was written and directed by Darin Morgan, who also wrote fan-favorite episodes “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space” and “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose.” Here's the description:
“Exploring the idea of The Mandela Effect, in which large groups of people remember an alternate history, Mulder and Scully learn how The X-Files themselves may have originated.”
The trailer also shows us footage from Episode 11.05, which is titled "Ghouli". It was written and directed by James Wong:

The X-Files is going absurdly funny, again, and taking on "fake news." In "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat," an episode written and directed by Darin Morgan, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) explore The Mandela Effect. The Mandela Effect is when large groups of people remember an alternate history. In The X-Files' case, this involves guest star Brian Huskey (as Reggie Something) and the duo exploring the history of their investigations. It's a wonderfully bizarre tale from the man who brought you last season's "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster" and classic episodes such as "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" and "Jose Chung's 'From...

If you’re an X-Files viewer who likes your Mulder a little goofy, your Scully a little put out and your callbacks to previous episodes plentiful, this week’s Darin Morgan-written and –directed hour is a bleepin’ dream.
“The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat” (Fox, Wednesday at 8/7c) takes the same irreverent tone as the producer’s previous X-Files eps, which include Season 3’s “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” and “Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space’,” as well as last season’s “Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster.” It examines the concept of The Mandela Effect — which happens when masses...

We're less than two weeks from the return of The X-Files Event Series - Second Chapter, the official term given to The X-Files Season 11 by Fox.
Critics received the first five episodes the second chapter, and herein I'll share thoughts on what we've seen so far.
Going by the numbers only, it seems likely the first half of the season will be better than the second, but even then, it should hold up well in comparison to the First Chapter of the Event Series. Here's why.
When speaking with Chris Carter at New York Comic Con, he noted that within the ten episodes we would be receiving three mythology episodes instead of the two. Bookends and one hybrid monster-of-the-week/mythology in the middle.
The problem with that from what I've seen so far is My Struggle III, the premiere of The X-Files Season 11, is by far the most ill-conceived of the five offered for review.

You ever have a moment where you thought you knew something, only for it to turn out to be wrong. But you remember it being true. That's the Mandela Effect. Named after Nelson Mandela, when people remember him dying in the 80's in prison, but in reality, he died just recently in 2013. Other cases include titles of food brands or famous movie quotes. Most recently a lot of people believed there was the 1990 film with Sinbad called Shazaam but it doesn't really exist. It's so popular that people believe there is something deeper, which is why there will be a film coming out soon about just that.
The film aptly called The Mandela Effect will star Robin Lord Taylor, Charlie Hofheimer, Aleksa Palladino, and Clark Peters. It is to be directed by David Guy Levy and who will also c-write the script with Steffan Schlachtenhaufen.
