I really liked the 1974 re-enactment of the Patty Hearst kidnapping by the SLA, but the several minutes wasted on Hondo's racist encounter with an Arizona highway patrolman got in the way of the show. It was an unnecessary distraction, not unlike Olivia Hargitay's soapbox against men on Law and Order SVU, There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to beat up on Arizona by making one of their officers what appears to be an outright racist during a traffic stop where Hondo and his love interest are convinced the stop was made due to the color of their skin. And while this may have merit in isolated cases, I see no reason to introduce this in an episode about a completely unrelated historic event that occurred 45 years ago. Whatever the lead's issues are, he needs to keep them to himself or figure out how to work them into the show within the context of a solid plot line.
