After delivering impressive performances in movies like The Impossible and In the Heart of the Sea, Tom Holland hit the big time when he was cast as Peter Parker in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
He'd go on to star in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, becoming an MCU veteran in just five years. However, outside of his Marvel Studios work, Holland has struggled.
While he's impressed on the animation side in Onward and Spies in Disguise, Cherry, Chaos Walking, Uncharted, and his first TV series, The Crowded Room, all drew mixed-to-negative reviews.
As a result, it's hard to shake the feeling that, outside of Spider-Man, Holland is struggling to make his mark. In contrast, his girlfriend and fellow MCU actor Zendaya, has received critical acclaim for her work in Dune and The Challengers.

Agbo, the Russo Brothers’ media company, has launched an innovation department, expanding its physical and virtual production capabilities under the guidance of a seasoned executive team.
Under the new setup, Agbo’s technology experts will build proprietary creative tools, with the aim of fostering production innovation and cost efficiencies. The idea is for Agbo and its creative partners to be able to access the company’s emerging set of tools at every stage of development, production, and post-production.
Innovation will have three verticals: production technology, immersive technology and creative. It will be led by Jake Aust, who was recently promoted to Agbo’s Chief Innovation Officer. Over a 20-year career, Aust has been a producer on The Office and Russo-affiliated titles like TV’s Community and feature film Cherry. He was also an executive producer on The Gray Man and most recently served as Agbo’s President of Physical Production.

Agbo is going AI — at least it sounds like it is, at least in part.
The Russo Brothers’ independent studio announced on Wednesday the formation of a new Innovation department, which will blend Agbo’s “physical and virtual production capabilities.” The studio’s technologists will “build proprietary creative tools for storytellers, fostering production innovation and cost efficiency for content across diverse platforms,” the press release reads. The tools will be used in development, production, and post-production.
When reached by IndieWire, a spokesperson for Agbo declined to clarify how much of these tools will be AI or generative-ai. The use of AI in Hollywood is considered sacrilegious by some and an efficient use of technology by others. The truth is it can be both. AI has been the primary — or at least the most public-facing — issue in contract negotiations between the guilds and the studios.

Entertainment Squad has acquired worldwide rights to Midas and will release the film, the feature debut of writer/director Tj Noel-Sullivan described as “a fresh and socially relevant take on the classic heist genre,” in theaters in the U.S. on June 28.

Anthony and Joe Russo seem to think that the chapter on Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is closed after his heroic sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. When they learned that Downey Jr. hinted at his potential return to the MCU role, they were confused by the idea. The Gray Man directors revealed that they have no clue about how the cinematic universe would bring back the character.
Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo were not impressed with the idea of Robert Downey Jr. returning as Iron Man
Fans were particularly disheartened by two of their favorite Marvel directors playing dumb to the concept of multiverse. The Russo brothers also directed the Sherlock Holmes star in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

Following the massive success of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” there was a time when the Russo Brothers were the biggest filmmakers on the planet, and most fans presumed, don’t worry, they’ll be back to direct “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
But much has changed in the ensuing years. The Russos, via their Agbo company, have delivered two films in that time that they themselves have directed, the drama “Cherry” with Tom Holland for Apple and the would-be Netflix franchise “The Gray Man” with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, an expensive affair that never took off with critics.

Babehoven’s Water’s Here in You begins with singer Maya Bon on bended knee, hands outstretched. “I forgive you,” she sings atop cascading harmonies and persistent guitar strums, extending an olive branch to an estranged family member who has fallen ill. The track, “Birdseye,” is a sobering meditation on reconciliation and repentance, a nod to the fragility of life, and the thesis statement of the Hudson Valley duo’s latest album.

With Zendaya’s new tennis movie, Challengers, dropping on Friday, fans couldn’t help but notice the Peter Parker lovers to tennis players pipeline of the three Spider-Man actresses. Zendaya’s role as a tennis player in Challengers follows Kirsten Dunst’s Lizzie Bradbury in Wimbledon and Emma Stone’s Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes. However, fans find that tennis is not the only thing common between them, as all three of them dated their Spider-Man co-stars.
Zendaya in Challengers
Zendaya and Tom Holland’s relationship is still going strong despite the breakup rumors. They were spotted together at the Dune: Part Two celebration event. Their relationship has probably run longer than the other two pairs’ short-lived relationships put together.

Ania Trzebiatowska has compiled an eclectic selection of fiction and non-fiction titles for the third annual Sands International Film Festival, which kicked off Friday evening in St Andrews, Scotland.

Hollywood casting can be a fickle thing. But for actresses who’ve graced the silver screen as Spider-Man’s love interest, there seems to be a recurring theme – a hidden talent for tennis!
A still from Spider-Man
Believe it or not, all three actresses—Kirsten Dunst, Emma Stone, and Zendaya—who have portrayed Spider-Man’s love interest on the big screen share a surprising connection to the world of tennis.
It’s not merely a coincidence; each of them has actually portrayed a tennis player in different movies, following their roles in Spider-Man flicks.
Spider-Man Actresses Have Unexpected Tennis Connection
The first connection in this web of coincidence takes us back to 2004’s romantic comedy Wimbledon. Kirsten Dunst, who famously portrayed Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy, took on the role of Lizzie Bradbury, a determined young tennis player on the verge of success.

There is no doubt that he is indeed one of the finest young actors in the entertainment industry currently.

I can't say if actor Tom Holland is well-suited to play Spider-Man, but I can say with absolute certainty that he is a first-rate teen heartthrob. He's handsome, affable, and dazzling in interviews. He has mastered the self-deprecating smile, and his tendency to give away the plot details of Avengers movies weirdly humanizes him. When it comes to acting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems little else is demanded of its leading men. Acting is less important than ineffable charm.

The stars of the 2011 One Day film have been superseded by this new bunch, now bringing David Nicholls’ hit 2009 romance novel to life for a new 14-episodes Netflix series. The album is somewhat unconventional, as it is constructed of “lost gems” from the BÖC archives. It also appears to be their final album, as a press release touts it as “a fitting finale to the recording legacy of one of rock’s most iconic fixtures from the past 50 years.”
Original master tapes were exhumed and digitized, then re-imagined using AI enhancement and new studio tracking by Richie Castellano along with remaining original members Eric Bloom and Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, and drummers Albert Bouchard and Rick Downey (plus additional overdubs recorded by Joe Bouchard).
The melodic and mid-tempo groove of “So Supernatural” certainly reflects the band’s classic era — recalling Spectres in particular — but it’s rendered through shiny modern production and extra coats of sonic paint.

The play will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, the director of the retooled Sunset Boulevard, starring Nicole Scherzinger, as well as the minimalist versions of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain and Betrayal, starring Tom Hiddleston, on Broadway. Tom Holland, the Spider-Man himself, will make a glamorous return to London’s West End by starring in Jamie Lloyd’s Romeo & Juliet.
British actor Tom Holland will switch webs for poison as he’s set to return to the West End in a new production of Romeo & Juliet.
Holland teased a “big announcement” on his Instagram stories the day before and many were hoping it would be related to Spider-Man 4, which is currently in early development at Sony and is expected to go into production in late 2024.
Holland got his big break by playing the title role in Billy Elliott at the Victoria Palace Theatre. His transition to films happened with Ja Bayona’s terrific The Impossible in which he played the son of Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.

Eva Longoria understands that for Latinos, attaining success is only half the battle — amplifying that success is key to ensuring more Latinos get the same opportunities.
“Anytime any Latino is recognized for their work it’s a great feeling,” the “Flamin’ Hot” filmmaker, producer and actress told TheWrap. “The whole point of doing what I do — whether it’s directing or producing — is to amplify the voices of the Latino community.”

Spellling, the art-pop project of Bay Area musician Chrystia Cabral, has a new album on the way called Spellling & The Mystery School that’ll be out on August 25th via Sacred Bones. To celebrate the news, Cabral has shared the record’s first two singles, “Cherry” b/w “Under the Sun.”
The Mystery School takes a bit of a non-traditional approach. Rather than a string of brand-new songs, these tracks feature re-imaginations of songs already in Spellling’s discography. Now, recorded with her full touring band, these new versions take into consideration audience feedback, with Cabral now “understanding what excites them and/or what makes people wanna dance more.” The album features contributions from Del Sol Quartet, Divya Farias, Jaren Feeley, Patrick Shelley, and more, and pre-orders are ongoing.

The formal pickup comes after Hulu opted to submit Nine Perfect Strangers in the drama series categories, and not limited series, for the 2022 Primetime Emmys last May, indicating that a potential Season 2 could be on the horizon.

Tom Holland is having a rough morning. Not because he partied too hard the night before — though the Marvel Studios superstar had enough reasons to, what with it being his birthday and the world premiere at New York’s MoMA of The Crowded Room, the Apple TV+ series that he both stars in and executive produced.
But Holland quit drinking alcohol a year and a half ago. No, this particular migraine comes from waking up to learn that Crowded Room — what Holland deems the “hardest thing I’ve ever done” (this according to a guy who has played Spider-Man in six feature films) — has been met by rough early reviews.

“It was a kick in the teeth,” Holland admits, unprompted, over eggs Benedict on the quiet terrace of a hotel in SoHo. “Rolling over, looking up the reviews, and then all of a sudden I was like,...

The Crowded Room Review: Apple TV+'s Psychological Thriller Miscasts Tom Holland And Amanda Seyfried
"The comic-book franchise is where traditional movie stardom is going to die," wrote Wesley Morris in a widely-shared 2016 piece for The New York Times. "Every good young actor vacuumed up by a superhero franchise or a megahit movie series costs us a fresh star persona." The statement was relevant just weeks after Tom Holland slung his first web as Spider-Man, and it's relevant now as he plots his path forward as an actor with his fate inside the suit still uncertain.
The fresh-faced innocence he brought to the third cinematic incarnation of a comic-book character within two decades made him a fan favorite in the "Avengers" series. Any audience who saw the final two chapters can recall feeling the air sucked out of the room when he vanishes in "The Snap" — and remember cheering when he re-emerges in the grand finale battle. As arguably the only star birthed by participating in the Marvel machine,...

Lana Del Rey delivered her first headlining performance since 2019 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Mita Festival on Saturday, May 27th, and the set showcased new songs from March’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd as well as a handful of live debuts and retooled tracks spanning her entire catalogue.
The melancholic muse began with an on-screen message wishing “God bless you, Brazil” in Portuguese before launching into “A&w” from her latest LP. Initially adorned in a black gown and blonde wig, Del Rey changed on-stage to her natural brunette and a floral dress without missing a beat during the third song, Norman Fucking Rockwell!’s “Bartender.” Her Did you know debuts included “The Grants,” “Candy Necklace,” and the title track, while she also gave an inaugural performance for “Flipside” from 2014’s Ultraviolence.
Later, the Grammy-nominated singer watched a montage of her old music...
