12 Stops on the Road to Nowhere (1999)
Excellent Short Film
I saw "12 Stops on the Road to Nowhere" at the Florida Film Festival recently and it was really good. It falls into the "cinema of cool" genre (which I'm frankly a bit tired of seeing) but I have to give it to them, "12 Stops" is quality. It's a well-paced guy/girl/car/gun/drug movie. The film has creative camera placement, a good usage of space, and is genuinely entertaining, albeit a tad misogynistic. The director, Jay Lowi, is obviously trying to get "12 Stops" made into a feature length film. Judging from the short it looks like he may have a good chance. Also, I must note that the cinematography was excellent!
Lock, Stock, & 2 Smoking Barrels + Trainspotting - Accents = 12 Stops on the Road to Nowhere.
9/10
No Looking Back (1998)
Hideous
This film is indescribably dumb. Lauren Holly, Ed Burns, and Jon Bon Jovi play New Jersey white trash?????? At one point in the film Bon Jovi complains about not being able to pay his bills and a few minutes later his girlfriend, Lauren Holly, is wearing a 300 leather jacket from the GAP! Their hair, make up, and clothes are perfect and stylish, almost like a page out of the J. Crew catalogue. Ed Burns needs to reaqcuaint himself with REALITY! These characters have never and will never exist anywhere but in an idiotic film like this. Horrible, Stupid, Boring, Painful. Avoid this film at ALL COSTS!
