Book of Love (2004)
don't waste you time
who selects the movies for sundance?!! who funds these movies?!! i can't even begin to go into the story problems and the believability that an adult woman would be smitten enough with a 15 yr old over ice cream to f*** him! the story has no foundation so everything that happens after is meaningless...
it all begins in the writing and then it is up to the director to make a movie that makes us care. i didn't get to know these character's so i didn't care about them. what is the story? what do these people want? what is the theme here? or is this just another generation x'er attempt at something deep?
to all you young filmmaker's...go watch some bergman...some malle...some ...fellini...kurosiwa...some bertolucci, for Christ's sake if you are interested in writing and directing something provocative. go learn something first.
i give it 2 stars because in truth...i have seen worse. enough said.
Woman of the Year (1942)
no doubt these two should be together
it was lovely to watch hepburn and tracey together, this is one of the wonderful things about movies, that chemistry never becomes dated, even if the movie does. although i must say those types of relationships do exist today, i was disappointed with the end. i felt as thought the movie skimmed the surface and never really got into the meat of the conflict. nice movie, funny at times, but...
Mercy (1995)
how did this get distribution!?
this is some of the worst, most cliched writing i've seen in a while...terrible direction and horrible lighting and photography, not to mention the stilted acting, with the exception of the maid and sam rockwell. poor sam rockwell puts in an energetic performance only to be destroyed by how badly the shots were set up adn the editing...oh my god! what a boring, terrible, cliched film...the first 2 minutes lets you know...WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!! BORING! BORING! BORING!
Under Hellgate Bridge (1999)
is a great dramatic piece in the classical tragic narrative
this is a very moving film that i look forward to taking my friends to in the theaters. the performances are strong, watch for jordan bayne and brian vincent. the look of the film and the direction are superb. this is a passionate and tragic film. i loved it.
