Slumberland (2022)
Gets you in the feels!
Watched this with my daughter. We both really enjoyed this and got a bit emotional.
Reminded me of a watered down version of Inception. I watched alot of fantasy films as a kid including the likes of Neverending Story. In recent times the CGI saturation has taken away some of the magic in fantasy films compared to the 80s epic Labyrinth for example. But Slumberland shows with the right storytelling it doesn't matter if the effects are overwhelming.
Didn't expect much from this but the relationship between father and daughter hit home. You'll laugh and possibly shed a tear.
At the end I had to give my daughter a big cuddle
Brilliant storytelling.
House of the Dragon (2022)
1st episode based review
I know people who have read all the GOT books and never watched the TV show and vica versa.
I haven't read the books but enjoyed the GOT show, despite a rushed ending.
I've just watched the 1st episode of HOD and thought it was an ok start and will watch more and stick with it, perhaps.
The sets are more of the same, the soundtrack familiar which I like but this time round I'm finding myself looking for Easter eggs and references to GOT, purely because I got confused with all the different families and how they relate to the story first time round. Which isn't a bad thing but perhaps takes a bit of the enjoyment of it.
It's Marmite, you'll love it or hate it. It's all fiction so don't let it bother you.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Believe the hype!!
I had the most anticipated pleasure of watching Spider-Man: No Way Home last night with my 9 year old daughter last night.
The frenzied rumour mill gained momentum over the months after the announcement of the next installment of Tom Holland's take on probably the popular Marvel character in the studios arsenal.
My daughter loves this version of Spider-Man since homecoming. I have to agree
Having watched the Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield versions, Tom just adds that fun comic Saturday morning cartoon feel to the whole franchise.
I still love the earlier installments but this trilogy is just awesome! Rounded off with a character packed assemble that ticks all the emotional boxes.
My daughters rollercoaster of expression of delight was worth every penny.
Thank you Tom Ward and Marvel for making a 44 year old feel as young and happy as my 9year old.
