Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
Not bad at all
I was not impressed by the trailer at all but my sister somehow wanted to watch it last night, so we rented it. And I'm glad to say it was a blast, everyone in my family had fun. It has some flaws, some of the jokes didn't land and the craziness was sometimes over the top but overall, a very enjoyable goofy, silly, old-school comedy. I have new respect for Kristen Wiig. Thank you for a nice Sunday night.
You (2018)
Both creepy and riveting.
At first I thought "Just a CW-like young adult drama", but as the story unfolded, You showed its fascinating side. It made me feel repulsed and I loved it.
Fleabag (2016)
Cannot rexommend highly enough.
Fleabag is thrillingly deep, funny, and buoyant. It looks at simple dynamics in every day life and blankets a world of emotions.
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
A lush and witty telling of Jane Austen's novel.
A little funny, a bit sad, and all-around entertaining. Ang Lee did a great job and for once, Thompson turns in a gimmick-free performance, and the rest of the actors range from fine to fabulous.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
A good action film.
Action scenes are pretty amazing while the plot is bland.
Capote (2005)
A quiet but hypnotic film that earns its nominations.
The performance you'll see in "Capote" is easily the best of the year. actually, the best of any year. It's one of those turns that'll be remembered for years to come, up with Welles in "Citizen Kane", Brando in "The Godfather" but Hoffman's conspicuously dapper turn as Capote shouldn't overshadow the murky, pervasively tense work of director Bennett Miller.
Frozen II (2019)
A bit disappointed.
A distressingly unnecessary sequel. I didn't expect much from the plot but it still was a disppointment and the music is not as good as the last one.
Joker (2019)
I don't care what those critics say.
Joker is one of the most, if not the most, exciting film of 2019. Phoenix has delivered such an amazing and sophisticated performance, Oscar well deserved. I'm don't agree with what the film is trying to tell us 100%, but I like the way they tell the story.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Not what I want but still worked.
A Beautiful Mind reveals only glimpses of the dark story beneath its sunny imagery, but the performances carry enough weight for it to stand for something.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Awesome
It's like an insane 80's B-movie, but one made with thought, effort, and enough of a budget to match its deranged aspirations.
Mary and Max. (2009)
Unusual friendship
Ultimately, Mary and Max is about correspondence and lack of correspondence, about how our images and fantasies about others fail to match up to what they are like, and about the constitutive gaps and misfirings in any communicational practice.
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)
My all-time favorite.
The scene where two leads kissed in the rain (sorry, that was a long time ago, I don't remember their names) is the definition of romance. Of course it's not just a love story, but to me that scene was everything.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Probably Cameron's best work.
Set the standard for modern Hollywood's F/X-driven mega-productions and cemented James Cameron's dystopian vision as modern science-fiction's saga par excellence.
Black Swan (2010)
Portman hasn't been this good for many years.
Audiences won't know who to trust and what is real in this terrifyingly great film that will grab hold of you until the final act.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
One of my all time favorite.
Hallelujah to Paul Thomas Anderson's crazy talented mind that keeps pouring out amazing visions. Daniel Plainview, gloriously portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis, is the most depressed human being I've ever seen. He genuinely hated everyone including himself which led him to his final miserable end. But it sure is fascinating to watch. And I kinda feel like this film questioned the christianity of Uncle Sam.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
One of the best pictures of the year.
No Country for Old Men is a great Texas film. It is great unequivocally, but Lone Star pride is a rare opportunity in Hollywood. And I never knew a man with that kind of haircut can be that scary.
The Departed (2006)
Scorcese at his best.
Many people told me that they prefer the original than this one but not me. I think it got its unique style.
Psycho (1960)
The film that fathers every other film.
It's a shame that Hitchcock never got an oscar proving that sometimes, the acadamy is just a joke.
Milk (2008)
OK
Milk presents details about the title character and his relevance... It captures the feeling of the city, and the events of Milk's life; but never captures the dynamic charisma that had to be a vital part of the man
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Sorry...
This is not Spike Lee's best, a poor detective tale and simple-minded Millennial noir
If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)
Love it.
It deserves to be seen for what it is: one of the most human and wonderful movies of 2018.
Vice (2018)
A bit tacky but...
Under heavy makeup, significant weight and a mouth that barely cracks a slit, Bale presents Cheney not as a caricature, but as a man of flesh and blood.
The Favourite (2018)
Olivia Coleman kept me watching.
The Favourite is full of vibrant colors, opulent sets, lush costumes, blood oranges, tea cakes, and a world of sensory delights. But none of it is beautiful.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Feel like a music video
Title says it all. But I do like Remi's portray, he totally owns the role.
Roma (2018)
It's not the I hate this movie
The cinematography is very impressive and all but I'm just not blown away. One more proof that critics and I don't usually go along.
