Texas Rangers (2001)
It was OK!
This film could have been much better than it actually was. Sure the scenery and cinematography were beautiful, but the storyline seemed to be tossed out the window after half an hour. Shame as it had a strong cast, but they weren't allowed to perform as it seemed that the director pressed the fast forward button, there is no character development and actors seem to appear out of no where. An example being Eric Johnson from Smallville, I mean when did he enter the film! He wasn't in the first half of the movie but then halfway through and without an explanation there he was. Maybe if the film was longer and they concentrated on actually telling the story then this film would be great, because all the elements are there. What a shame?
Valentine (2001)
It was alright
Valentine, was an interesting film, for every kid who has been bullied or is being bullied this is the film for you, as our killer in this film happens to get his revenge on those pesky name callers. Pretty much the film is average, a good plot and the mask of cupid is kinda freaky but enticing enough to make you want to know who is doing it. So it is watchable, and for the squeamish, some scenes will make you look away, but the acting isn't all that. We all know that Richards isn't going to win an Oscar anytime soon, but shelton surmised me by being bad, I've seen her in a few other films which I can't remember of the top of my head, ah Trojan war, but in this film her acting comes off as cheesy. For all the Angel fans Boreanaz does a good job, keeping us intrigued, with his alcoholism which for some reason makes him the prime suspect, wonder why(Angelus). An average film that just has enough to make you want to watch it.
Smallville (2001)
Show made me love superman
Superman had gone out of my memory for a while and then came along this fiery prequel, which opened the door for my love for Kristin Kreuk. Until finally in season 5 her moaning and whining and finally ticked me off so much that she now annoys me. And to then start dating lex, I mean how could she do that to Clark. DAMN HER.
I must admit it was tedious waiting for Clark and Lana to finally get together, but after they did, you were soon hoping they would break up, because Clark just didn't know whether to tell her about his secret, I mean what an idiot just look at her, he should have told her from day one, she is gorgeous.
The show is very good, sometimes there is a monster of the week theme going on but that in itself is effective. The special effects are amazing and the scene when Clark flew as Kal-el to go and get a stone on a plane was fantastic. Tom welling is superb, sometimes his acting isn't brilliant, but he is totally believable as Clark, even though you can definitely tell he isn't 18!!!!!!!!!!! More like 27! There are a few episodes that were cool when other superheroes were brought into the scene, The Flash and Aqua man were great episodes.
The show even though a part of the superman ethos, does have a mind of it's own in the sense of it is more like a teen drama, with us seeing how a teenage Clark Kent deals with the problems that we face. Now the story lines have become more intermingled with the whole superman story with the inclusion of ZOD. But the writers have definitely brought a fresh new edge to superman.
Angel (1999)
Fantastic show
As a Buffy fan I was genuinely sad to see Angel leave the show, as most of the three season's of buffy had been made up of plot lines involving angel and buffy and I knew it would be the end of that. But then I watched Angel and it was brilliant. Loved every minute of every series and it was a joy to watch. Buffy was great for teenagers but adults found it hard to watch as it was genuinely a teenage drama, so when Angel came out it appealed to a whole new audience.
Joss whedon, excels again making this show thoroughly watchable and funny with his imaginative story lines, sure season 3 and 4 seemed to be a book and you had to have watched the previous episodes otherwise you were lost but that didn't matter, it was still hilarious and the acting was good too. Wesley's transformation was especially effective, with him, while still staying funny he became a warrior type figure. Alexis denisof's English accent is spotless and I actually thought he was English.David boranaz was spectacular throughout the show, adding a sense of humour that wasn't as present in buffy, even though he had his funny moments in Buffy as well.
Highlights must be seeing spike take a permanent position in the 5th series and proceeding to drive pike crazy, the funniest scene was when spike and angel are having the argument over who would win in a fight a caveman or an astronaut? absolute genius had me in stitches? I will miss the show, sure Angel was beginning to look as though vampires do age(ha ha) but still could have had another season. Thankyou Joss you gave the world Buffy, and while wowing us with that you thought you'd make the whole world drool with Angel. Thank you very much indeed!!!
The O.C. (2003)
sandy and Seth, comical greats
I love the O.C because it has it's drama, teen angst, fantastic mansions and many romances but most of all for it's comedy, mostly generated from Seth and sandy. I've read a lot of comments and many are correct when they say that Seth is the main star of the show, some of his performances have been show stealing, when you think that the show is based primarily on Ryan's adventure into the rich world of Newport. Which by the way is a beautiful setting, and makes me want to fly right over to California to get an apartment, even though a pricey one at that.
I feel as though it is a very dedicated show and deals with many issues. The main reason I watch the show is because of the chemistry it produces between it's characters. Ryan and Seth have become a duo that can't be reckoned with and the relationship between Seth and summer is probably the cutest. I know everyone loves Marissa but she has started to do my head in, and I was quite pleased with the finale of season three. She was supposed to be the victim of her wicked mother but in season 3, it's her choices that gets her into trouble and you just want to slap her and say, shut up you spoilt brat. Thankfully I didn't have to do that and volchuk did that for me by ramming Ryan's car off the side for the road.
Still the show is entertaining, there have been many good scenes and story lines, like Luke and Julie cooper, Julie cooper and Caleb Nichols, Julie cooper starring in a porn movie, Julie cooper moving into a caravan and julie cooper being evil self cnetered witch from hell(even though she got a lot nicer as season 3 went on) but you can see where I'm going with this can't you.
It is addictive television, season 3 waned a little, I don't know why the writers tried to break up seth and summer, and then tried to make sandy into an evil man hell bent on securing his goals and forgetting his family, thank god they came to their senses at the end of season 3.
Love it, Love it, Love it. But not as much as one tree hill and smallville.
One Tree Hill (2003)
I love oth
I think this show is fantastic, it is very different from the O.C but I feel really impacts the audience at a much More personal level. It definitely reminds me of Dawson's creek, without all the psycho babble, and I think that is why I like it. The storyline itself is great, I'm addicted to the highly emotional plot, you feel very sorry for Lucas and in the beginning you start to hate Nathan and loathe Dan Scott.
I personally think Peyton is hot, he has an angst ridden appeal and I like the chemistry between her and Lucas. I liked it so much that I wish Lucas and her had got together instead of Brooke, even though in the second season she was very, very cute and sweet.
The acting is good, sometimes you think that Dan is a villain from a James bond film but apart from that he is entertaining and gives the show an edge. Chad Michael Murray does a good job as Lucas, and James lafferty is good as Nathan. The show is brilliant and if you enjoy angst, drugs, sex, and just teenagers moping and parents scheming then this is the show for you. Closely fights the o.c and skillfully for best thing on T.V
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Esily one of the best films I have ever seen
This is on of those films that come along ad you are awe-inspired by it, the performances are brilliant, the direction is brilliant, and Samuel L Jackson is amazing. What a film, couldn't help but ask my friends had they seen the film, because I needed to talk about it.
Tarantino i well renowned for his script writing talents and a now a classic example of how good he is will be pulp fiction. Some of the things they talk about seem quite fruitless, 'do you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France?' and there s a marvellously shot sequence where travlota ad Thurman are doing a dance off and then later on travolta sticking an adrenaline needle into her heart, what a strange night that would have been, if that had happened to you!!!! I thought Samuel L Jackson performance was brilliant and he probably had the most memorable lines of the film with the passage taken from Ezekiel. Quality film, brilliantly shot, maybe the best Tarantino film I have seen, even though I did adore Kill Bill vol. 1. Go see it for those who haven't.
The Grudge (2004)
I saw the American version first
I thought this film was very good, very unnerving and I was genuinely freaked out, not by the boy even though his eyes were quite terrifying, but his mother was doing her best to terrify the living crap out of me. I actually preferred this film over the ring, the ring was interesting, I do like the Japanese version, but of the battle of the remakes I would say the grudge was the better film.
I've read some reviews and people don't seem to be happy with the remake, so I'm thankful in a way that I didn't see Ju-on and that I got to watch this with out knowing what it was about.
I surprisingly enjoyed the segments that the film followed, they all intermingled and explained what was going on in the house, and what happened to the poor victims, who have done nothing wrong except for having the ,isfortune of walking in the house. The opening scene was a classic and a pecurser for what the film is going to be like.
I can't say that there were strong acting performances, but they were effective, Gellar did ell in her role, she led the line but didn't have that too many scares, I found the scene where the ghost follows the poor American sister of one of the victims to her flat unbearable, I didn't watch that scene probably, and could feel the hairs on the back of my neck raise.
I thought this was a great horror move, I'd recommend this film to people who haven't seen the original, as I've gathered that this film maybe let's the original down, so that must be downright terrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Why I loved Buffy
It is probably quite obvious why i loved buffy and that was sarah michelle gellar, but also I thought the show was brilliant, it was funny, had great one liners, had action and had some sappy romance(angel and buffy, why couldn't they just let them be together).
I caught the buffy train in season two, and then had to wait for season 1 to be re shown before I could understand how this vixen had to come to our screen. I was a major sucker for the buffy and angel saga, thought it was incredibly engrossing, and was blown away when Angel(unfortunately experienced one moment of perfect happiness) and reverted to angelus, was a great storyline, and kept me thoroughly entertained. Season 3 was a highlight for me when faith a arrived and spike had his one episode cameo, that was the best season for me, but after that it took a downward spiral. Season 4 was entertaining but 5 and 6 just rather depressed me. Thank God that bid farewell by brining back some excitement with season 7.
I loved all the characters, willow, xander, giles were just loved characters, my favourite would be spike though, even though James Marsters seems to get his accent confused between the east end of London and Bradford, should never mix north and south. He brought another angle when he arrived on the scene, with his black humour and his character developed very nicely on the way.
Mainly I would like to thank Joss Whedon for bringing such a brilliant show into our lives, he gave me and my friends endless dreams of what it would be like to be sarah michelle Gallard boyfriend, and up till season 6 a damn good Friday night
Roswell (1999)
Roswell high
I loved roswell and have all three seasons on DVD, unfortunately the main reason I loved roswell was because of season 1, the other 2 seasons got sidetracked and the writers seemed to get lost with all he plot lines that they were trying to envisage on screen.
But season 1 was fantastic, absolutely adored it and even watched the re-run on sci-fi even though I owned the DVD box set. I loved the relationship between max and liz and I thought it was genuinely good on screen, sometimes Jason Behr seemed very boring and sense of humour wasn't his thing until maybe season 2, but I though he was a good lead. The only person I found extremely annoying was Katherine Heigl(Isabel), I think at times she must have skipped acting class because at times you just want to scream at her SHUT UP!! But overall I found the show to be very entertaining and very watchable, season 3 seemed to go by like a whirlwind, but I was pleased with the ending and I suppose they did it in a way the show could only have been ended with liz and max getting hitched AHHHH! Not as good as buffy, but still entertaining enough to be recommended.
Dawson's Creek (1998)
Ashamed to love Dawson's creek
I would never admit it to my friends in the past but I loved Dawson's creek, I never understood why I loved dawson's creek but it was just addictive television, whenever it was on I would just have to watch it. I mean in season 1 straight away we had controversy and intrigue, with a love triangle(which later took various forms, as we all know) a student teacher intimate relationship and an affair between dawson's mum and her co-anchor. No wonder the show was picked up.
But apart from all the psycho babble this show was very emotive, and at several occasions had me wailing like a baby, yes I said it. But also what attracted me was also the acting because for me if I had to learn all those words that a teenager would never say in his life then I would find it a very hard job to do Joshua Jackson stole the show for me, James van der eek was a good lead but the comic element seemed to always come from Pacey, until season 4 when he always seemed to be struggling to hold on to the affections of Joey and it all seemed to get too much for him.
And also I was very jealousy of cape side and had myself wondering what it would be like to live in that gigantic house and have a girl as hot as Katie Holmes climbing through my window every night, would be brilliant wouldn't it.
I was sad to see the show end, but it did seem like it was running it's course, but there are a lot of good memories to take from the show and I will remember them fondly(or I'll just watch the DVD box sets) again.
Sin City (2005)
Sin city heights
I have to say this was a brilliant film. I thought the look and atmosphere the film generated were superb and the story lines were thoroughly enjoyable. The cast blew me away, I knew that there were a lot of strong actors, but the amount of actors that I recognised that were in the film just took me away. I must admit my favourite was elijah wood, when watching the lord of the rings, I found his voice to be very annoying, and I hated the was he made his scenes very camp with Sean astin. So I was very surprised when he didn't say a word, but made a convincing psycho, who gave Marv a run for his money, before eventually being fed to the dog, and he didn't even scream!!! Visually stunning, this was helped by Alba cowgirl routine and also the prosthetics on Rourke and stahl were very creative and fitting. Hartnett's role was a very short one, but I found his role very poignant, a great way to start the film and then a cool way to end it. The dialogue was brilliant as expected from Miller but it also took me back to authors like Raymond chandler and the great dedicative stories of the pass.
Very engrossing, cool, slick and well made definitely a film to go and see.
