Killer Concept (2021)
Killer Concept is well a Killer Concept
This movie combines 2 of my favorite things. Horror movies and movies about making/writing movies. The concept was tons of fun and felt very fresh. I enjoyed the balancing of the tone. The "fake" horror movie we get to watch in there they're while they explain there ideas to each other is a great visual idea. I thought he film was very well paced, never over stays its welcome and had some great lighting. Overall a surprisingly well made and entertaining indie film. I definitely recommend it!
Purdah (2018)
Transportive and gripping
Purdah is a super insightful and gripping documentary. I was instantly transported to India, the realism of the cinematography really sucked me in and I felt right with the characters. You really get into the story of the girls and cant help but cheer for them to succeed. Its a very honest and heart felt movie that I think anyone can relate to. As a sports fan too it was great to learn more cricket and the culture around it.
The Next Big Thing (2016)
Great social commentary on the desire for fame
Thought provoking and original. The Next Big Thing is a fresh and modern take on the desire for fame and how far people are willing to go
Documentary style narrative story telling is one of the handset things to do and this succeeded in bringing the genre to a new place.
Vietnam: Fast Forward (2021)
Gripping and fast paced
I was hooked and captured not only by the beauty of the landscapes and people of Vietnam but the filmmaking. Its a extremely fast pace, informative, I learned a ton yet at the same time its a fun ride. It was interesting to learn about how resilient and hardworking the Vietnamese people are. It was place I always wanted to visit but now its jumped ot the top of my list! Highly recommend watching.
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater (2020)
Spicy and Spunky
Mistress Maneater is a original and fun movie with a great personality that balanced comedy and drama well. I though the lead actress Lorrisa Julianus did a very good job at balancing the duality of the character. I thought the scale and size of the film was well done and impressive for its budget.
Back to Berlin (2018)
Incredible documentary about some lesser-known history
Watched this with my Dad as he is a huge history buff and it was great to watch something with him that he knew so little about. You can tell this is a documentary made with love and passion for the subject. The production quality was far higher than I expected. Great pacing and balanced the footage and stories from multiple eras organically.
Hearing these truly honesty and personal experiences of what these incredible people went through really made me think about how lucky you are. I strongly recommend it.
Are You Glad I'm Here (2018)
Transprotive and Engaging
Are You Glad I'm Here is a very well paced and structured indie movie made with care. As someone who is half white/half middle eastern I loved the way the film naturally uses of both languages and the tone balances the drama and cultures well. The actors feel very real and like they can actually relate. The movie also uses some amazing real life locations that transport you. Over all "Are You Glad I'm Here" is a engaging transportive story and I would definitely recommend.
The Process (2020)
Striking cinematography and great music
I was hooked right away not only by the beat, but by the striking cinematography that effortlessly moved about the car. The Process is an authentic naturalist indie film with heart. The film is very tight well paced doesn't overstay its welcome at all. I thought all the actors did a great job with not only the dialogue and acting but the rapping as well. There is a sense of reality to the picture. Good music and I thought it was relatable for everyone striving to achieve their dreams
When the Fever Breaks (2019)
Fast Paced Zombie movie made with Love
As a lover all things horror and all things Zombie, I quite enjoyed this. It was heartwarming to see such an indie horror movie made by horror fans. This film plays to its strengths with a quick runtime, fast pacing and plenty of thrills. You feel the tension outside the door, but the real horrors of course or inside ourselves. I enjoyed the color palette of the film and I think the director does a good job at giving enough new angles to make the location/House feel fresh.
The Extraordinary Ordinary (2019)
Heartwarming and relatable
Heartwarming and relatable, cute little indie film. Very well paced and edited. I thought the cinematography had a very grounded look and feel. I loved the use of negative framing. I think the movie did a good job at understanding its budget and letting it play to its advantage. Good directing and handling of the actors. Who all do a good job with the material. Bonus points for raising Mental Health awareness too!
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Authentic indie rom-com with heart
Dirty Beautiful is a fast paced authentic feeling indie rom-com. I cant lie I'm a sucker for the genre and this did the trick for me! I liked the structure a lot and the 4th wall breaking, good cinematography that sets the vibe and mood perfectly. The lead actors Ricky Maybe & Jordan Monaghan both give great performances and balance the drama and humor needed. I also have a soft spot in my heart for movies about writers or the entertainment industry. So bonus points!
Mandao Returns (2020)
Super well paced and balances its tone and genres well
As a filmmaker I love watching how lower budget films handle high concept ideas. This movie does it well and pulls it off. Its heartfelt and wears its earnestness on its sleeve. Mandao Returns is a super well paced and doesn't overstay its welcome. Balances its tone and genres well and has good performances.
Lemonheads (2020)
Phenomenal cinematography
Lemonheads has some of the best cinematography I've seen an indie film. The movie is suspenseful, dark, engaging, yet funny and fun at the same time.
George Jonson gives an amazingly captivating performance that you cant look away from. His balance of focus and motivation mixed with a unhinged sense is great. The characters aren't good people and they aren't framed to be, but you cant help but get sucked up on there insane adventure.
The movie is briskly paced and well directed and Im excited to see what everyone does in the future, strongly recommend!
