Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
They are going to have to work hard to save the show
They are going to have to work hard to save the show. It has potential but at this time it is really weak compared to other high octane shows on TV:
The problem with the show is its premise. It is supposed to be in the marvel universe where things are different and quite hyper. Thus you have set up an expectation that the show will be filled with action like the recent Marvel movies and it will not because the show would cost too much to make so shortcuts are taken at the expense of the show. That is the big problem i see at this point. The stories are cheesy and cliché and nothing we have not seen so far in the last 20 years or more of action TV. So far.... Some of the actors do not belong in this TV show at all. Ming Na looks like she is 50 years old now and cold. She acts like a robot and it really annoys the hell out of me. She looks so cliché. The two young British scientist are barely understandable when they babble their science stuff. Major casting faux pas there. Do you speaka any English anyone?! I don't understand the words that are comin out of your mouth! Colson is likable but not in this set up. It diminishes his impact he had on the films he was in. There is no major villain so far, no major threat which lends me to believe that the show will go on and on and on about the gang finding weird gadgets and fighting the little band of villains that want the thing in each show. Wash rinse and repeat and then the show gets cancelled. This show needs to be something like Hawaii 5-0 but on steroids or something done Marvel style. These guys need a bigger underlying threat to make it interesting. This show needs to have them fight AIM or Hydra, not some group made up of people who hack stuff or a bunch of goons dressed us as guerilla fighters with 20 machines guns and a pickup truck that acts as a tank like the show wants to move towards too. They need to fight people with advanced technology to make the odds of winning impossible. If i wanted to watch a machine gun fight i could watch the A team or some older TV show like that. The Show needs its guest star to at least come and make an impact. Having Sam Jackson come in was the only redeeming factor of the second show, but just to complain about what Colson did... C'mon you can do better than that. At the moment people are on the fence. They want to love it but they are only liking it. Pump some money in the show and it will bring in dividends and viewers and ratings will get better. Go cheap and the show won't last. Most of season 1 is probably already made so its going to be a whole harder to turn the ship around if the tone of the show is this at this time but if they get past season 1 then if they listen to fans then they can salvage this....
Man of Steel (2013)
Best Super hero movie ever! Period! A must see!
I was apprehensive about the movie from the start and was not sure that it would measure up but i was surprised how epic this film was. From the get go you are thrown into it and the rest is a fun epic ride all the way to the end. I have never seen a movie with so much intense action that does the movie justice. This easily beats the Batmans, the Iron Mans and the avengers flick for both scope and cheer visual spectacle.
The actors are spot on. The storyline is intelligent and make sense for this generation. There are no real sissy romantic moments for lack of better term that don't fit and derails the storyline. The visual are just above anything else i have seen so far in an action Sci-fi flick.
The costume of Superman works and the rest of the costumes in the movie make sense. Nothing looks fake and is extremely well done special effects wise.
The music is awesome. I thought that nobody could beat John Williams score from the original movie but Hans Zimmer has done a fantastic job with the themes of the movie.
The only thing i can say that is negative about the movie is that Superman/Clark is a little bit too naive looking in this one both as superman and has Clark but i am sure he is going to gain maturity as he goes on into the other films.
When i got out of the theatre after the show i heard someone say that it was a little too over the top. I have to completely disagree. Its a Superman film, it has to be epic. I would have hated to see Superman pick up daisies or have lame fights thru out the film.
If you are into comic books you know that this film fits and works. If you are not into comics, you will see this as an action flick that you may or may not like because of the intensity. We have had a lot of intense films graphic wise in the recent past and people are getting used to them so seeing Superman smash thru a city block can be considered either epic from a comic fan or just another action scene for an action film person's perspective. So you have to judge the films based on your taste i would say.But Comic fans owe themselves to go. This sets the bar real high for upcoming Super Hero films.
Superman also does something i never expected in the film. I wont tell you what it is but it changes the way i see the legend. My jaw dropped when i saw this. I never saw it coming. That moment was well done but not well handled after, the moment was washed or brushed off as not significant after it happened but it will stay in your mind forever and i am sure it will spark a lot of debates down the road.
An epic masterpiece! Now all we need is to have a Doomsday fight!
The Hangover Part II (2011)
Still fun and a good time to have to
This movie was a lot of fun to watch. The cast is funny as always and the story is very good. For those complaining just don't watch it, simple as that. A comedy is probably the hardest type of movie to write because it has to be "funny" and it hard nowadays to write something funny because most of everything funny has been done over and over. That being said, you can go different ways in your comedy but this movie is the type of comedy i like,it has a plot, is mature and it not a brain dead mishmash of stupid things or stunts or language that a lot of younger kids like. It is old fashion comedy and i hope they do more of this series.
It is not going to change your world but if you want a break from reality, this movie is it!
Game of Thrones (2011)
Fantastic a must see
I know about the books but i never read the story.
It is nice to see that a series looks so great. I did not want to spoil myself with reading the story since i bought the book but kept away from it.
The cast is awesome, the settings are great, the plot is very mature and well done. Only thing i am afraid is that material is gonna be compressed because of time constraints, but perhaps i will be wrong.
I hope much more success than actual viewer ship right now but i am sure this series will achieve a cult status down the road with more fans discovering this each day when the series is done when it is done! cheers it was worth the wait!
Deja Vu (2006)
Well done entertaining movie!
Let's face it. nowadays you go to the local cinema to look at a movie and 99% of the time you can see the ending coming half way thru the movie.
This movie is quite different from that because it does not sell you the ending until the actual end which is great. Yes the movie is far fetched but it is so wheel written that it all makes sense and there are more twists and turns in this movie than a formula one course. This helps make the movie entertaining.
Denzel is superb and driven. Th rest of the actors do as well as Denzel with their screen time.
All in all i can say it has been a long time since i watched a movie that good and it was made years ago!
Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Perfect Remake!
It is hard to compare a remake to the original counterpart. Most of the time they are complete let downs. What was serious and interesting might turn into a comedy and in a farce in a remake which this show did not do and i thank the producers for that.
I think all the actors are great even though a lot of people seem to disagree with the choice of Alex as the lead.
People are forgetting that Steve is the character that drives the show 99% of the time and he is the one who stirs the plot into its direction while the others gravitate around him. The old show was like that and the new one is the same which is great.
Also i like Alex because he oddly reminds me of Nicholas Cage and i like his stuff most of the time.A not holds barred attitude in action sequences....
The settings of Hawaii are well exploited and the guest villains or guest stars are well chosen.
Everyone i know who watches the show thinks this is great.
It sure beats the hell of all those stupid TV reality shows that seem to pollute our TV's now.
Aloha! I don't think people would have liked to see a 50 year old run a bunch of 30+ policeman and trying to run with them on a foot chase...it would have looked odd and goofy.
I think he is entertaining to watch even tough people says he is stiff which i think is unfair to him. He is exactly in character with what the authors of the show have set him up with.
Scott Caan and Daniel are great with their parts and Grace is always fun to watch although she looks way too skinny now for some reason. But that is my personal opinion on that.
the choice of Mark Dacascos for Woo Fat also is great and i am sure will reap some great rewards.
Fringe (2008)
Good show that is dragging it's boots!
I enjoy the show quite a lot but season 2 is dragging its shoes very badly.
It is exactly like watching the anime TV show ghost in the shell stand alone complex.....wherein i remember that one show was about the main storyline then a show about something completely different but involving the main cast then a show about the storyline then a few more shows about something else until the season was ended and the real plot had been resolved following that formula. That season went on for 25 episodes...a long darn time to see a resolution to a story...
Fringe is following the same darn pattern ( ghost in the shell anime plot resolution pattern ) this year...last year we had a lot of info coming in about the pattern, massive dynamics and so on and so forth but this year the show looks like CSI but with a supernatural twist...we are not learning anything or very little. A lot of super interesting character development but that is about it.
Who is the pattern? who is their boss? what is it with Mr. Spock? no answer so far...and we are close to mid-season already if not over it...
Do we have to watch an entire season of shows of "mundane events" in the world of fringe just to learn a few things in the last show of the season? There is so long that people will endure to see that the main plot does not go forward and eventually ratings will start to go down because people will get tired of seeing the show dragging it's feet. If they only have one major plot to work on then the show is done for...JJ Abrams needs to move this plot forward end it and then start a new concept or ad a new threat towards the world of the fringe division can work on. I know more info is supposed to come in future episodes but i don't think i want to see 5 or 6 more fillers shows and only see one show in the end that move the plot forward or set up the show for the next season.
The show is darn good but it lacks a direction...a purpose...a goal...
Does anyone agree?
John Adams (2008)
Highest possible recommendation!
Being Canadian and history buff i was intrigued by this series prospects of my southern cousins' history.
Upon seeing the series i would say that this series is superb on all aspects, from the visuals to the story. The series played out well and there was magic flow thru all of it because of the marvelous acting and casting and visuals. Somehow i wish this series would have been longer because you really grow attached to the characters just after a few shows...
The only caveat is that the end shows feel a little bit rushed on the time-line that these persons lived in and you are left filling the time-line voids and try to figure out what happened to some characters in the series but then again it is absolutely engrossing to watch this show.
A glorious effort at trying to show us history for the modern men and women of this generation.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008)
For once a good Adam Sandler movie !!
Usually i do not like Adam Sandler's movies or most of them because if find them vulgar and i hate vulgar comedy. But once in a while he decides to do something different and Zohan proves that he can do comedies that are not bottom to top vulgar.
This movie is a clone of Austin Power but done the right way. The Cast is A one, it is over the top silly without being vulgar like i said. The story even though far fetched makes sense and is well put together.
It is a nice story about change and acceptance even though some people might disagree with my comments. You can see all the American stereotypes about other people's culture and religion but it does in such a way that i did not find it offensive, At least for me.
I wish Adam would do more movies like this one and even hope for a sequel for this one.
It's been a long time since i have seen a good comedy and this one filled my boots and gave me a great big smile in the hand. And i am kinda missing the Zohan to tell you the truth....
Superman Returns (2006)
Not a bad film but Lex Luthor was the problem in this deal !!!
Warner Brothers are complaining that the film did not meet expectations but i found that everything was right..the casting was A 0ne, the special effect were awesome and the music was classic. The Big huge problem on this film is the fact that yet again Lex Luthor was the nemesis in the film, out of 5 modern films he has been part of 4 in the storyline and people i think are just "fed up" of this. Superman is able to do those godly things but yet he is brought to his knees by a puny cunning human, and that is what we have seen in the films we have witnessed in the last decades... What Singer should have done is make a Superman film with another villain. The Doomsday " death of Superman" storyline has been talked in Hollywood for years but never executed and this would have been the perfect opportunity to use this storyline to make an impression! I think Lex should not even or should i see ever appear again in any future Superman film as he has been overdone and people find it a bore...the need something super, a super fight!!!
