Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Disappointing
A lot of money was used to make this show. Unfortunately nothing was left for creativ thinking and writing. It looks great, but the story is simply weak.
The Letter for the King (2020)
Don't watch if you liked the book. Otherwise go ahead
This was my all time favourite book when I grew up. I was kinda excited about the serie when it was announced. However, already in the first episode there was so much divergence from the book, that I could not continue. (With this I do not mean the choice for a character of colour as lead, but changes in the story itself. The order of events and motivations of the characters) I could not let the tv show soil the good memories I have of the books.
Upgrade (2018)
Nice story, not so great acting
This movie is surprisingly good. I especially enjoyed the fight scenes. The story itself is simple. The gore in the movie is fitting since the first time it occurs the viewer is as surprised as the main character. The acting unfortunately is not so convincing.
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)
Wonderful movie
This movie has the perfect blend of action, fantasy, romance and humor. It is one of my favourites growing up. Bit of pirates of the Carribbean, meets prince of Persia, meets DreamWorks.
Rescued by Ruby (2022)
Hallmark movie
A nice concept, but it is filmed in the most picture perfect American dream kind of way. I don't mean that in a good way. It takes all realism from the movie. However, it is a lovely story about an awkward dorky man who get together with a very similar dog.
The King's Man (2021)
You could as well be watching a fanasy
Just like all the James bond movies every moment is as impossible and improbable as the next. The story is weak and the mistakes pile up. Entertaining for the brain-dead watcher. Not so much for the rest.
His Dark Materials (2019)
Where are the daemons?
I love the world it is trying to portray, but after a few episodes you almost start to think that daemons are something exclusive for the main characters. In large rooms with many people no Daemon is in sight, only some birds near the ceiling so they didn't have to combine the human shots with the animals. This is in my opinion a major flaw in the show, since the daemons/animals are what makes the world unique. The story itself is good and the acting choices are great, but it is a bit slow, so it doesn't draw me in and keeps me entertained.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
I love this film
This movie is wonderful from beginning till end. The music, the acting, the costumes and overall feel of the movie is spot on. An absolute pleasure to watch!
Nobody (2021)
Marvellous
A good action movie that does not take itself to seriously.
Infinite (2021)
Nice concept, bad execution
Interesting story, but the film itself is bad. Full of plot holes and sexism which shouldn't be in movies anymore this day and age. Feels more like a rund of the mill action movie.
Abigail (2019)
Nice concept, terrible execution
The concept of the story is nice, however the script is horribly paced and full of clichés. The acting is horrendous and I don't know if that is because the actors are terrible or that is just the result of forcing a group of Russian actors to speak English the entire movie. Not a good movie.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
What??
Great effort went into making this terribly unrealistic story. Not worth watching.
Cruella (2021)
Better than expected
Disney showed it's deep pockets with this movie. A list actors, a list music, and stunning visuals and design. Both Emma's act formidable. The big negative is the plot, it feels flat and uncreative (guess there is no price for creativity). Jasper and Horace save it a little with their funny and witty scenes.
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021)
Disappointing
The movie is simply repeating all the jokes from the first film without the good story or any shred of realism. Where the main character in the first movie was quirky but capable, the same character in the second movie is almost mentally unstable, going along with the plot for no apparent reason. Getting hit by cars and a boat at full speed without any consequence sealed the deal. This movie is an unrealistic mess!
The Irregulars (2021)
Just another teenage drama in a different jacket
Tried it, but no. Just try to imagine it is playing in an alternate reality, because I don't know what it is trying to achieve, but Victorian London is not one of it. Female empowerment and multicultural cast aside, the whole show feels too modern. Because all homeless girls just want to find a boyfriend... Ugh.
Zashchitniki (2017)
Just no
Horrible story, and sexist on top of that. Hideous special effects, and no consistency. Bear guy ripped out of his pants twice and was still wearing pants by the end. The English dubbed version is terrible, almost all monotone voices. Russian was not available to me, but would have been much better.
Despicable Me 3 (2017)
Enjoyable
The first movie was a gem and this is a pale comparison. However, it is still enjoyable with loads of good jokes and references.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Nothing special
The movie is absolutely gorgeous to look at (if you ignore the my little pony style dragon which just didn't work for me). The premise is original, but the story is more of the same in Disney. Which is not exactly bad, but predictable and a bit boring.
Outside the Wire (2021)
Meh
Flat basic US action movie to fill up an empty evening. Was not able the keep it interesting throughout the film. Dull
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
Boring story
The whole movie feels like a play (which it is based on). The limited locations and the length of texts, makes the movie feel slow and boring. The whole dialogue between the musicians is largely about nothing. Steller acting though. Chadwick and Viola steel the show, but they cannot compensate for a terrible script
Ready or Not (2019)
Refreshingly good horror
This movie has a good story and great execution. Horror and gore, a strong comedic element, while having a gripping story.
Crawl (2019)
Terrible story
The acting and special effects are the only reasons why this movie gets any stars at all. The script is horrible far fetched just like every other disaster movie. Terrible decisions by the characters, all the drama is basically their own fault. This topped by unrealistic things like out-swimming a crocodile or walking on a compound fracture makes it a horrible movie.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Not a comedy
The trailer is quite a misdirection, it is not a comedy at all. And sometimes you are in the mood for a specific kind of movie, so I was rather disappointed in this one. The movie is good, it puts forward some good philosophical questions. However, the contrast between the two worlds is too big, it feels unrealistic.
Brilliant acting though!
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Disappointing
The story itself is simple and endearing, however the film itself is too full. Alsmost as if it is trying to overcompensate, while not focus on any character properly. It is just not funny enough, and extremely childish. And too long to be entertaining for children
The Ridiculous 6 (2015)
Don't expect to much
Turn off your brain and find something to read while watching this movie and you may enjoy it
