The Contractor (2022)
A poor cousin of Bourne Identity series
Has the Bourne series vibe. A few chase sequences are also reminiscent of Bourne movies
But a distant poor cousin of Jason Bourne.
Watchable once and if you don't have any expectations, its reasonably engaging.
Blacklight (2022)
I like Liam but ...
... this movie was bizarre. It seemed like a movie written for someone else, maybe a Liam Hemsworth but then Liam Neeson was fit in. I like both Liam's but this was more Hemsworth territory
But it was also a pathetic film.
Kadaseela Biriyani (2021)
So good ...
From the very first frame you know that you are in for a twisted ride.
Special mention to Hakeem who does a brilliant portrayal of his character.
Brilliant debut by the director. Go watch it!
Fortress (2021)
If only...
... Bruce Willis earned a hair strand for every cr*ppy movie he starred in, he would have a hair style Jimi Hendrix would be envious of.
... Bruce Willis, spare us please! Let us live with your Die Hard and other fond memories!
True Story (2021)
Decent but nothing great
I could predict the twist before episode 1 ended. So noy great
I could predict what will happen in the tunnel in the last episode. So not great.
So ignore the 9 and 10 reviews. Even i am being generous with a 7.
Dangerous (2021)
I need a doctor like Mel Gibson
... prescribes me fancy pills
... available on call, no insurance worries
... tops up / amps up pills as need be
What is not to like about Dr. Aderwell????
Kastanjemanden (2021)
I liked it but ...
... there were many potholes and stupidities ...
1. Looks like Denmark has no local police. Everytime the police has to come from Copenhagen by which time the crime is already committed and criminal has escaped
2. Within a few minutes of police reaching a potential crime spot , the criminal dismembers his victim while the police is around the crime scene
3. A police officer is drenched in fuel. And he starts drilling through bars with sparks touching his face and hands
Ignore stuff like this and its pretty good.
Toofaan (2021)
Boring and cliched
Nothing much to write about. The movie is so clichéd that it deserves a cliche as a review. Watching New paint dry on the wall is more exciting than sitting through this movie.
State of Siege: Temple Attack (2021)
Great TV flick!
A very good tv flick which also serves as a grim reminder of the fear of Islamist terror that India once lived under. The current government has helped restore the common man's faith in governance and not have to live in constant fear of getting killed by Islamist terror whenever they stepped out. But this fear was super real in pre Modi era.
This movie serves as a reminder of that era
Excellent acting by Mridul Das as terrorist Farooq and Akshay Khanna as always.
Wild Dog (2021)
Excellent portrayal of true events
Wild Dog is an excellent dramatization of the capture of Yasin Bhatkal and dismantling of the religious terrorist organization Indian Mujahideen which had killed a lot of civilians in India in 2000 time frame.
The movie has some uncomfortable sequences which will make some people refuse to accept the truth but then facts are facts. This movie does not hesitate to show the truth as it is without resorting to whataboutery and random excuses. A brilliant and brave effort. Kudos to everyone involved.
Tuesdays and Fridays (2021)
Bollywood is the epitome of mediocrity
This is such a waste of time. It is really surprising how the content head at Netflix keeps buying such dud movies repeatedly from Bollywood.
Mumbai Saga (2021)
Chor Gupta can't do chori anymore
Chor Gupta in the past used to make average movies because he would do shameless chori of Hollywood and Korean movies. Hoping people don't find out.
Now in this age of social media, he can't so chori anymore. So he has to do chori of his own movies like Lokhandwala and Wadala. Both of which were Anyway pathetic.
So imagine a rehashed version of wadala/lokhandwala. It is like dharavi of 80s. Full of dirty naalas. Avoidable.
Bhaag Beanie Bhaag (2020)
Silly show
Supposed to be a comedy but is silly and a pain. Couldn't see beyond 1.5 episodes even though I tried to really like it. Kunal Kamras jokes are more funny than this comedy. Now you get an idea how lousy this show is
Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives (2020)
Karan Johar and SRK
I wish Karan Johar had come out of the closet himself as a wife of SRK using this series as an excuse. He could have then extended it to share his envy at actual Mrs. SrK and how SRK was so desperate for a hit film that KJo had him completely under his/her thumb as a wife. Now that would have made rate this as a 10*.
Andhaghaaram (2020)
Interesting watch
I am writing this about an hour into the movie. It has an intriguing dark premise and has not been predictable so far. Thankfully, the movie is also without gimmicks and excessive melodrama so far. The actors have acted well and fit their parts. Hoping that it gets better.
Update:
The second half gets a bit tiring and at places convoluted. Could have been edited by around 20 minutes and the big reveal could have been more effectively explained. Watchable but the second half pulls it down.
Ludo (2020)
Barometer for a movie
These days Anurag Kashyap's tweets are the basis for whether to watch a movie or not. If he tweets in favor of the movie, it means it is going to be an overrated movie which Bollywoodiya's will tweet in favor of to scurry favors for each other. So Anurag Kashyap goes around scratching everyone's back in the hope that they scratch his when a movie of his releases. Since the movie is getting overrated reviews, time to give it a 1 to balance out the fake superlatives.
Serious Men (2020)
Overheard conversation
Sudhir mishra: I have serious men lined up
Anubhav sinha: thanks for the preview. It was okay
SM: heard your back was sore?
AS: yes. Can do with a back scrub
SM: let me give you a back rub
AS: serious men was fantastic. 10/10 worthy
===
Anurag Kashyap: sorry guys. Was dealing with some legal problems
SM: no issues buddy. Serious Men is out on Netflix
AK: great! Sorry, haven't found a moment to see it yet but have already tweeted that it's a great movie. Hehe
SM: naughty chokra chhe tu
===
Swara Bhaskar: ahahahahaha
SM: What happened?
SB: I will praise Serious Men too on my timeline but ...
SM: But what? What do you want?
SB: I need your Netflix subscription. I am a JNU freeloader and refuse to pay for Netflix
SM: Done
SB: ahahahahaha

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)
So bad that the producer disassociated himself from it ...
... you must have all heard of the stories about how KJo got his own name removed from the credits. The movie is so bad that he chose to disassociate himself from it after putting in all his money. That is how bad it is.
Honor the original Gunjan by reading the book on her instead.
The Quarry (2020)
Sum of parts greater than whole
Great cinematography.
Brooding background music that works.
Great acting.
Michael Shannon. Terrific as always.
A good potential screenplay which explores a criminal mind and guilt.
Those are the parts.
The sum ... the direction and the overall movie.
The sum just doesn't do justice to the parts.
Choked (2020)
Anurag's AAG
Like every Bollywood movie these days, you should wait for the real reviews to come out. The first few reviews are usually reviews written by fanboys. To this you can also now add Kashyap's twitter followers who will lap up everything he says. But slowly the real audience reviews start coming out and we know the true aukat of the film.
Manmarziyan was painful to sit through after 15 minutes. Choked is not as painful but dull and boring for a thriller.
Ghoomketu (2020)
Anurag Kashyap going the RGV way
There was a time when RGV was the torch bearer of kickass Hindi movies. Then he started surrounding himself with yes boys and living in his own echo chamber leading to his downfall. Any project involving RGV started becoming unbearable.
Same is happening with Anurag Kashyap. He has surrounded himself with yes boys and yes girls. All projects he gets associated with are unbearable. He is just going the RGV way.
Coming to Ghoomketu, it is humorless and completely flat. 1* maybe a bit harsh but after the hype Anurag Kashyap makes on his projects, his projects which miss the mark deserve a 1*
Spenser Confidential (2020)
Lighthearted and mildly funny
This could have been so much more but ends up being vastly short of being a very good actioner comedy. But still easy enough for a saturday evening watch. I somehow felt this could have made a wonderful tv series ... all the elements are there to have an engaging series.
Thappad (2020)
Height of hypocrisy
The director of this movie walked out his wife without informing her the day Dus (one of his many dumb movies) became a success. Till then his wife was being supportive of him and his failures. He didn't even give a penny to her for their child's support. I hate saying this but facts need to be shared.
And now he is making a movie mocking other men who are far more responsible and sensitive than him.
The movie was absolute rubbish.
Ghost Stories (2020)
Scary (Not the movie but Bollywood's future)
The only scary part of Ghost Stories is how these 4 are supposed to be amongst Bollywood's top film directors. Serious rubbish and scary thought about the future of Bollywood. Dibakars segment is relatively better but Anurag Kashyap needs to retire. He is going the RGV route. Except that Anurags peak has been much lesser than RGV.
Anna (2019)
Runs without a story....
Runs without a story for more than 3/4ths of its length. Just some solid action sequences.
It could have gone any which way it wanted towards the end in its conclusion. It wouldn't have mattered to you as audience as by then you are turned off.
But it had some good shootout and action sequences. Just not enough story to get you impacted by it.
