The Resort: Hünch Fò Llub Seeth (2022)
I'm lost and losing interest
What a shame.. I watched the first 5 episodes in one go but this episode made me lose interest. That whole debacle with the reclusive writer and the mysterious "room" they are trying to find - what the hell am I watching? Kinda disappointed but will continue watching just to find out what the hell is going on.
The minute maps were opened and the music became dramatic, I realised this is a sci-fi show and not a true crime story. That whole time bending crap is redundant and really takes away from the story. If only the writers stayed with the main characters' drama, instead of bringing in time travel crap..
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: The Autopsy (2022)
A good one after two duds
A great episode, done in the spirit of Spielberg's early 70s films - gritty, graphic, dirty.
After two unbearable episodes who had no business being made, comes the 3rd instalment and finally something good, gripping, well acted, and just a fine entertaining short film.
You kinda get where the plot is going halfway through the episode, but you still want to see how it plays.
It is, though, the 3rd episode in a row with mostly male characters, which is a shame. I know the next episode has a female lead so hopefully it pays off.
The show is quite disappointing so far, with uneven films. Let's see what comes next..
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Lot 36 (2022)
Who approved this to go on air?
Who, at Netflix or the show's producers, approved this amateurish mess? Who read the terrible script and said "that's good"? Who cast these actors and gave them god awful dialogue to say? The plot - if you can call it that- is a first draft of a bad film from a 1st year student. This is just bad.
And Netflix chose this to be the first instalment of the show? Maybe to lower the viewer's expectations.. I haven't seen the rest of the show, but hopefully the rest of the episodes will be better. Hell.. anything will be better.
I just don't understand how this got made, can someone please explain it to me?
The Black Phone (2021)
Shallow, lazy writing - disappointing movie
I was really waiting to watch this film and boy was it a letdown. Bad lazy writing of a weak not scary story. Not enough Ethan Hawk in the film. Nonsensical plot with zero scary moments and a half ass ending. Disappointing.
I Want You Back (2022)
Too long sweet-sour anti-rom com dramady
A nice choice for a rainy Saturday afternoon at home. Day and Slate are quirky and fun to hang out with, you kind of root for them, until you don't.
This small movie is too long and gets too unnecessarily complicated in its 3rd act. The behaviour from Charlie Day's character is terrible and he should go to therapy before even dating another woman..
The Bronze (2015)
Expected a dark comedy, ended with a lame drama
The film's 1st part promised a dark comedy with a satirical take on being a has been in America. Instead, it took the disappointing route of a melodramatic story about a bad woman learning to be nice.. meh..
The Outsider: Tigers and Bears (2020)
People sitting in rooms talking.. aaahh the suspense!
Still binging and still waiting for some kind of urgency or suspense.. why is this show so slow??! Just have something happen already!
The Outsider: Foxhead (2020)
Too slow with no sense of urgency
I'm binging this show and kinda into it, especially because of the lovely Ben Mendelsohn, but this is just a drag of an episode with no real suspense until the last few minutes. I really hope the pace will pick up in the last two episodes..
Modern Love: Rallying to Keep the Game Alive (2019)
Tina Fey's character is a terrible person
She berated and insulted him (and his fan), and he deserved better then an annoying wife.
Happiest Season (2020)
She should have left and never looked back
I wanted to like this movie but as soon as they arrived at the family's home, Harper started behaving so badly that I hoped Abby would just say "I'm out!" and leave immediately. But she never did, and decided to persevere with these god awful terrible people, and I lost any kind of compassion I had for her character. The mom, the dad, those terribly written sisters, especially Alison Brie who is so misused here, that entire Christmas charade.. Abby was treated miserably by all of them and was basically ignored by her so-called "true love", and yet she never left.. so basically she CHOSE to stay in a toxic relationship based on lies with a annoying girlfriend.
And that too perfect to be true ending? What the heck was that? These terrible people all of the sudden just changed their entire persona and accepted each other for who they are? yeah right!
Also, this was marketed as a Christmas romantic comedy. Nothing romantic or funny here.. too bad for the entire talent cast.
Palm Springs (2020)
A day-loope film about depression and loneliness
The plot is about a man and a woman falling in love while living the same day over and over again, but really- it's about depression and loneliness in the modern age.. the feeling you can't escape who you are, and the love that can help you through it.
Andy Samberg was never better: sad but hopeful, depressed but ok with it.. I loved this movie and its message about being alone and together..
Catch and Release (2006)
Like a mid 90s TV show about sad beautiful people
This is a nice escape from reality on a boring evening.. everything was fine here - people were mostly beautiful and harmless, the fat character was - of course- the clown.. plot basic and dialogue was OK.. just like a nice episode from "Table of Five" if it was filmed in the mid 90s..
After Life (2019)
Mostly bad fat shaming jokes
What a waste of time this is.. a self righteous narcissistic lead character who the viewers are supposed to like, because he's depressed about his dead wife. Many many fat jokes - wow, so cool because he's not PC.
Again, like in the terrible "Derek", Gervais writes his characters as saints and mocks the overweight and unattractive men.
Dirty John: Chivalry (2019)
Finally a decent episode showing the show's unfulfilled potential
This episode took me by surprise - in a good way. John's world is shown in all its ugliness and complexity, a great showcase for Eric Bana. The previous episodes were just meh, trying too hard to be light. But this episode is darker therefore stands out as a superior one. Unfortunately, the rest of the show wasn't as good..
