Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words (2020)
When Black Conservatives Succeed
Watch this bio-documentary interview and decide, not judge, for yourself. It's not often that we get a glimpse into the very personal story and actual struggle of a determined minority Supreme Court justice of the United States.
Aquaman (2018)
It's a solid 6
The house of Aquaman is built on a concrete slab of CGI. I actually giggled during over the top cliche script moments and that's not good. "I'm gonna need a bigger gun" for example. The opening scenes were good. Kidman was miscast and opportunities for screenwriting were usually abandoned in favor of stiff dialogue. Worth a look but I won't be adding this to my Blu-ray collection in 2019
The Ugly File (2009)
Great horror-film short
Often times, horror film shorts have a way of disappointing the viewer and the director and producer get caught up in bizarre inside perspectives that are difficult to comprehend, or enjoy. Not this one though. I had the pleasure of viewing this short film while on a trip in Erie, PA. The acting is very good. In addition, the lighting, set decoration, sound editing and the film features great production values. Watch for the lead actors in this film to appear in feature films as the years go by. Ironic ending works very well. Congratulations to all who worked on and appeared in this nifty short film. I believe I heard that the film won several independent film awards recently and they were well-deserved. First-time producer Lisa Knight is someone to watch for in the future. The talent casting was superb.
City of Hope (1991)
Inner city interlocked characters in very good Sayles film
Like another Sayles film, Matewan, this really is one of the little known very solid films of our time. This precursor for Crash is a compelling look at the substantial impact strangers may have on each other.
While the acting is at times somewhat melodramatic, the direction of the film is typical of the brilliant Sayles. The film contains some very interesting tracking shots where inter-connected characters unwittingly enter and exit each other's lives.
Unfortunately, the film's title often has it mistaken for the awful "City of Joy" featuring Patrick Swayze
