The Grand Tour: Operation Desert Stumble (2016)
Bad car show, solid entertainment show...
This episode showed that cars won't be at the center of every episode. It certainly didn't have the same meaty car content the first one had. So I understand the old fans of Top Gear would certainly find this episode lackluster but this show is not Top Gear 2. It's not even a proper car show. It seems to be more about Jeremy, Richard and James talking, doing car stuff, creating hit and miss comedy and playing high budget short sketches.
With all that in mind, if you are expecting a full on car show than this episode is the best proof that you are likely to be disappointed. However if you were expecting the trio being themselves and testing out ideas with high budget and mostly focusing on cars then this is pretty solid entertainment. As a car show it's 6/10, as an entertainment show I'd give this episode a 9/10.
About the comedy, it's certainly not everyone's cup of tea. I laughed a decent amount this episode but I also cringed a lot too. Maybe they need to filter the humor down a bit only to the best jokes. I think it's mostly hit than miss anyways.
House of Cards: Chapter 32 (2015)
Strongest episode yet...
It's easy to lose yourself trying to analyze the political scenario in which the episode is built upon. But that is not the point of this episode. Previously Frank faced his demons and he came out on top. This time it is Claire who starts to question the path she took. This episode is about the distinction between Frank and Claire, it's about whether or not the means justifies the end, it's about courage and strength and how they define it differently. When the stakes are high will she stay firm, should she stay firm? A top notch episode that will shape the paths of both of our cold blooded, ruthless politicians in their future ambitions.
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
Overrated...
I found the show to be average at best. Characters really doesn't have any depth to them. Half of the run time is characters looking to the camera talking to themselves with their inner voice. Everybody is a bad ass when in safety and everybody is a coward when faced with danger.
Characters also behave completely unrelated to their portrayed personalities. Every episode someone has to give a cringing motivational talk that is just unbearable to listen to. For about 30 seconds everybody is cool and motivated than it all goes back to the regular. No one can move a muscle as their friends die. Characters changes mood without any explanation.
The show is trying desperately to make you believe that it has emotional depth but it fails miserably. Other than the general concept everything about it is unoriginal. The pacing is terrible as action sequences are short and far few between. In many ways the show talks a big game but it fails to deliver when it comes to the actual play.
First few episodes was decent and gave me the impression that this series would be awesome. It probably also triggered the very high initial rating this show had. After that people just went with the flow when rating the show. People see the rating and then form their opinions about it. It is currently sitting with a rating of 9,0. That's on level with Death Note. And even though the styles are completely different, this rating is an insult to Death Note's clever and sophisticated characters and writing. On a side note all of the episodes have ratings around 6. (Except for 2). How can the rating for an average episode be 6-6,5 and the full series can be 9 is really beyond my comprehension. It's a good indication for the over-hyped nature of this show.
I know for most of this review I just ranted about the show. That's because I was very excited to find such a promising anime and then I watched it as it went from promising to mediocre which really left me in an unpleasant mood. At the end of the day it isn't a terrible show, but it certainly doesn't live up to it's reputation. After 7 episodes I've finally gave up on waiting for the moment when this show will turn things around. I suggest you check out some of the other popular anime's before this. This really isn't up to other good anime's standards.
The Lego Movie (2014)
Fun and nostalgic all the way through...
Went to see it with my brother. With the age difference between us we both loved the movie for different reasons. For me it was superb. It's amazing to see how lego people in a world made by lego, live and interact with each other. There were some funny moments for kids and even some moments for adults too. Overall it is a very enjoyable movie and it is sure to remind you of your childhood. I recommend it to anyone who has ever played with any form of lego whatsoever. You'd be surprised to see how relevant this movie will feel.
I think all people from all ages can find something in this movie that will warm their heart. A timeless classic for sure.
The Mentalist: Red John (2013)
It is either a very bald move or one of biggest disappointments in TV history.
It is either a very bald move or one of biggest disappointments in TV history. I am genuinely hoping it is not the latter. This is not the show we loved to watch and even powered through when it had it's dips and downs. This was not the end neither Patrick nor Red John deserved. There better be more to it than this. But i won't be voting on this episode. Obviously the episodes would be already filmed so the next episode will not be based on the feedback from this one. All is left is to wait patiently for another week or two. But if this is indeed the end that was "planned" for this story than i am sad to say that i will be trying erase this season from my memory and just remember the last 5 seasons as an unfinished work. If this is indeed the end Patrick, you will be greatly missed...
The Legend of Korra: Beginnings, Part 2 (2013)
The essence of the avatar spirit...
This 2 part episode was unquestionably the best avatar episode ever aired. (For both series) Episode explains how the first avatar was "born". It is the kind of episode that shatters every bit of inconsistency and answers all the questions people have. It brings the feel of greatness to the avatar which frankly has been missing for a while now. It is an astonishing approach, an extremely well crafted prequel, the kind of basis every series needs. It doesn't matter if you like Korra or not, it doesn't even matter if you haven't watched any episodes from The Legend of Korra. This is the episode that you should watch to understand the world that drives this show, this is the episode you should watch to perceive what it means to be the avatar. This is not the final piece of the puzzle. This is the frame that you put the puzzle pieces on.
Supernatural (2005)
A must watch show!
It would be hard to review this show as a whole because it changes from season to season. But I must admit even after all these years and all these episodes I still look forward to each new episode. And this kind of eagerness is rare for me. Maybe it's because the unique nature of the show or just it's story in general.
Although there is countless shows that takes supernatural events as their main theme, I've never seen a show that process the general knowledge of myths and legends as good as this one. I mean even something as overused as werewolves becomes a mystery with this show again. But to be fare the main characters has a huge role in this success.
Sam and Dean are one heck of a team. They give this bad ass feeling of brotherhood. And when their personal stories and past mixes with the supernatural cases the show offers it becomes an amazing package. Every episode is brand new yet connected to the ones before.
So overall if you are looking for a new show which features some amazing action on well structured stories that are based on supernatural events mixed with just the right dose of comedy, you have yourself a winner. Don't waste anymore time and start watching this show!
