Deadman Standing (2018)
Where's the Story?
At first, this movie looked like a bunch of outtakes from other westerns. Every cliched scene you can think of crammed into the first 50 minutes before we get clued into what's going on. So, it's between the cattlemen and the railroad men over who controls the town. So? And this was based on true events? Except for C. Thomas Howell, the actors are C-list and the story is basically a bug tussle over a dung ball. I suspect film school larva directed this, relying on the usual tropes to get us to the violent ending. There's a lot of pointless yakking going on in this movie, much of it like balloons coming out of the characters mouths in a comic. If you like lowbrow, this is your kind of movie.

Let's All Nod Off with Billy Bob
Just finished watching Season 2. Mr Thornton is way too laid back now, walking through his part, always smoking a cigarette, looking down at the ground or whatever. This is painful to watch. It's like watching American method acting 99. It's not even Method 101 (which is now discredited and declasse' I'm happy to say. Charlatan Lee Strassberg never finished year two of the original training) Someone needs to get the word to our hero.
I know, Billy Bob's supposed to be playing a slutted out, end stage alcoholic, but there's a way to do that without putting me to sleep. Which is what I did during each of the first seven episodes.
Oh, well. At least it's a nice payday isn't it Mr. Billy?

And The Oscar Goes To Bill Pullman!
Bill Pullman is such a splendid actor. See this movie for no other reason. Well, one other reason: Kathy Baker. You can't go wrong having her in your movie. I love good acting, and this is some of the best you'll see this year. Bravo!
