Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Too much compression, getting too dark for no reason, and changing characters and storylines to the detriment of the overall story.
The Netflix series has just 8 episodes to 20 for the original, but with an hour or nearly an hour that would translate to 15-16 episodes worth of time in comparison. There shouldn't so much compression and combining storylines for apparently no reason. In just 4 episodes they have basically completely omitted half a dozen episodes, some are important to character development. They also needlessly change characters. Bumi is almost completely different and is a major problem for the future because his original character was important to the storyline and Aang's character development. Now that won't happen or happen properly along with basically all the trials of that episode to develop the Gaang won't happen either. Another example is that the love cave is combined into the Omashu episode in episode 4 but Aang isn't even there. That's incredibly important for character development for both Aang and Katara which doesn't happen now.
Other things that are needlessly omitted are that Aang isn't the innocent kid who needed to grow up both as the avatar and as a person. He already has a warrior kid type personality. Katara has already had several Mary Sue moments, Sokka isn't as sexist which is important because he grows to not be sexist and see value in more people. Finally the show takes itself too seriously. The original Avatar knew it was serious and there was a war going on but also understood the Gaang were kids who were too immature for the task they were given but grew into it. The Netflix show has the main characters too mature, too developed without showing it, and the same is true for the episodes even with an hour to have development.
Star Trek: Picard: No Win Scenario (2023)
Finally writing some good Trek
This season is exactly what needed to be done since season 1 of PIC. They have made it gritty like they wanted PIC to be but haven't forgotten their roots like what season 1-2 mostly did. My only qualm is how they are handling the changlings. In DS9 a major plot point was how they developed blood screenings to handle Changeling infiltrators and that was the number 1 way to catching them. Not about finding some leftover residue in their regenerating can which according to canon they don't leave behind anything of themselves unless they choose to.
Also the changing to and from liquid states seems rushed. In DS9 they had to problem showing the Changelings change from human or other form into liquid state fluidly and quickly then back again. So far the camera pans away and then all of a sudden you see them in a liquid state, but those are just minor qualms for me.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Classic Trek meets modern television
As someone who has watched all Star Trek's, even tried to make it through the mistake that was Discovery before giving up mid-third season, Star Trek SNW is a breath of fresh air in a franchise that needed to come back to its roots. This show has actually captured, to some extent, the idea of Star Trek, a mix of TOS and TNG but closer to the original series. It goes back to the new world each episode, much deeper and thought provoking ideas of TOS but it also has more basic, closer to sci-fi science episodes of TNG. With how recent Treks, both the Abramverse and the recent Star Trek series, Star Trek SNW is vastly better than it has any right to be and should be a welcome surprise to Trek fans.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
It was actually decent, it still left a lot to be desired.
So 4 episodes into a 6 episode miniseries we finally see Kenobi return to form, albeit not fully. Kenobi and the supporting good guys actually act decently and the story isn't terrible this time but it shouldn't have taken 4 episodes to get there.
The positives:
- Kenobi looks like a Jedi that is just rusty but a Jedi nonetheless. He also has his confidence back.
- Kenobi is called General.
- The story wasn't terrible.
The bad:
- 3rd sister character and actress is not good. Not sure if it's that she is a bad actress or direction or both.
- The storytelling suffers from far too short episodes.
- it shouldn't have taken 4 episodes to get to seeing Kenobi when the show is titled Kenobi.
- Mostly a lack of storytelling. This is a miniseries, the episode should be an hour long at a minimum.
- The lack of progression for 30 minute long episode.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Disney, stop hiring trash writer for Star Wars
Other than the Mandelorian, all live action Star Wars Disney has done have been terrible. There has to be someone who could at least write decent Star Wars. Also all the bots that are giving this a 10 need to be deleted, it is making it look like the Obi-Wan series isn't written as incompetently as the Sequels.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
This feels like Disney trying to make something they don't understand
Which I don't know how they STILL don't understand Star Wars but it seems to be happening again. Chasing Leia actually makes sense to me unlike other users, it fits with her character, and the fact that Luke really shouldn't be a problem on Tatooine.
The inquisitors, especially the 3rd sister, all seem wrong. The lore is already established that the Grand Inquisitor dies to Kanan around 4 BBY, 6 years after this, so that's a major continuity error. 3rd sister also seems like a much worse Kylo character, all the brooding and whining but none of the skill, both in character and acting. Finally this episode seems to just be a filler, how anyone thought a filler episode in a 6 episode mini season would be a good idea is beyond me.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
STD uses the Star Trek name to get people to watch it.
Discovery has the most consistently bad episodes week after week. I don't know why this wasn't cancelled after season 3. Other Star Trek shows, Enterprise and TOS, were cancelled while still making quality content. Discovery never really had quality Star Trek content outside of some of season 2. It has been an insult to Star Trek and the episode's rating shows how the fans really think of STD.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Missing Pieces (2019)
Makes no reference to the Snapure
This contains some spoilers to Endgame so don't read if you haven't seen it.
After The Snap, we find out that the population of the earth drops by ~50%. They show a shot of NYC with far fewer people and eve has Cap mentioning that some whales are inhabiting the harbor again because of the much lower traffic in 2023. Black Widow even has a teleconference with the remaining heroes who fought at Wakanda plus Captain Marvel for status updates on so if they need to respond the remaining Avengers can help. I'm saying all this to say that this episode not only acts like The Snap never happened, but that strange anomalies that show up on shield's satellites somehow misses the Avenger's eyes? This is taking place a year after The Snap, they would have had the time to reconcile what they've lost and responded to this. Additionally there seems to be no loss in humans when we see the teams outside the Lighthouse. On top of that somehow no one on the team got Snapped away? I can understand that since they would have to be gone for the next 4 years/seasons but still, it seems like AoS is now separate from the bigger MCU because of these problems. This doesn't even address the other problems like Coulson being alive somehow but as a bad guy. I can get past that if they explain it well in the future episodes, but they need to take into account the MCU more than they are after such a monumental event as The Snap. I still have this episode an 8 for it being fairly solid, but if they don't address this issues then I'll have to lower the score on this and other episodes.
Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption (2012)
Only reason it got 1 Star is because I can't give it 0.
This movie is an utter joke. The only way a person would listen to this crap is if they want to hear lies. This is a worthless waste of time.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Repairs (2013)
A missed opportunity
When I first saw this episode it was just an average one that seem to about another powered person to index. Now that I have seen it after watching the entire series the episode feels like a missed opportunity. The images that Simmons sees of the particle accelerator explosion is clearly an image from Maveth, the same planet Simmons is trapped in at the start of season 3. They could have connected this episode with those future episodes but instead just brushed it under the rug after season 1.
Serenity (2019)
Not my Serenity
I original Serenity based on the Firefly series is better. The only good part of this movie was the trailer.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
The amount of people that don't understand the movie is astonishing
All the reviews that say this movie has no plot are either trolls, idiots, or didn't are to take the time to watch previous marvel movies. Every single one of those ratings and reviews should be taken down and not added to the rating for Infinity War because of their fundamental lack of understanding. It's like coming in and watching the last 2 minutes of an hour long drama show and saying this episode sucks because it has no plot. It's utterly ridiculous!
There have been 31 marvel movies leading up to this point. All 31 has have some plot that leads to infinity war. Infinity War IS the end game movie. There is nothing left to explain, nothing left to discuss, it is all-out fight for control of the most powerful items in existence, the infinity stones. There have been 31 movies to explain in someway the power of these stones and/or the heroes that come together to fight Thanos in this movie. It's like a long game of chess where Thanos finally makes his move, and it's a huge one.
So I beg of any of you who reads this. Don't listen to anyone who says this movie has no plot, has no reason and is only fighting. They aren't worth listening to, Infinity Wars has roughly 60 hours of plot from 31 precious movies leading up to this monumental fight for life or death, and the movie is done to near perfection. The movie is glorious, the CGI is fantastic, the battles are awe-inspiring, and Thanos is made worth of your fear from the very beginning. He is truly the Mad Titan that captures your heart and crushes it right in front of your eyes. Anyone who doesn't think this clearly didn't see the same movie.
