I can't praise Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann Khurrana enough...
29 June 2019
Who knew the person who directed Ra One would direct a brilliant film such as this. And not only brilliant but also brave. And Ayushmann Khurrana has proved himself as an actor to watch out for all over again. I don't like stardom, but if Ayushmann doesn't come a superstar, I'll be pissed.

It's not John who's trying to survive, it's the people chasing him.
29 May 2019
If you liked the first two, you're going to love this one. Keanu Reeves was awesome, but Halle Berry was just as good. I'm up for a spin off with her as the main character.

Best superhero showdown ever.
27 April 2019
This movie is not just a movie, it's an event. A payoff after 11 years of build up. If you've not been in the marvel train, then you'll enjoy this movie. However, if you've grown up with these characters, this movie is everything you'll ever want, and so much more.

Worth all the hype!!!
18 April 2019
This movie is easily Del Toro's masterpiece. It has become one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a movie which you love when you watch it, but it also makes you think about it for a long time after it's over. It also encourages debate about the ambiguity regarding the ending. But above all, it has a heart.

The girl who played Ophelia makes you empathize with her. You feel bad for her whenever she is in peril or is sad. And you feel sad whenever she cries in helplessness.

I love this movie, I can watch it over and over again.

Just excellent
11 April 2019
First things first, the film got it right in the tech department. Things work like things should work. Characters react like they should react. For example, they write something, and then delete it. And they make spelling mistakes.

Now coming to the story. It was after a long time when I could not guess where the story was going, or how it was going to unfold. Kudos to the director and the writers.

In the acting department, everyone was amazing. John Cho was terrific. He deserves more leading roles.

A must watch for anyone who wants to watch an unconventional and unpredictable movie.

Best DCEU movie
6 April 2019
I haven't loved anything from DCEU except Wonder Woman. And I still had problems with it's ending. I liked Aquaman quite a bit, and I don't hate Man of Steel. When I saw this trailer I was underwhelmed. To say I didn't like it enough was underselling it. I went to see it because of lack of choice in the cinemas. And I left the theatre absolutely loving it.

It's not a perfect film. But it has a lot of heart and amazing comedy. Don't skip it.

I also have to praise the marketing department for not revealing any of the major plot points in the theatre. More studios should learn from this. We don't need to see the whole movie in the trailer.

5 out of 5 for me.

Best thriller I've seen in a long time
31 March 2019
What's up with comedians making amazing horror movies. First Jordan Peele, now John Krasinski. This movie stars him and his wife, along with amazing child actors Millicent Simmons and Noah June. Millie Simmons is dead like her character in the movie, and she is as good as both of the lead adult actors, who are just amazing.

There is a bathtub scene in the movie, and Emily Blunt's performance is one of the best in my opinion.

This was also my best theatre experience in the longest time. Because the movie was so captivating, along with the fact that it's main plot hinges on being silent, nobody in the audience made any noise. It took me an hour to eat my nachos.

Now this is not exactly a horror movie. It's a thriller. And in my opinion it's the best in a very long time.

One of the greatest battle ever fought, reduced a boring 3 hour slog.
23 March 2019
I love action movies, and I love historical movies. And I love Akshay Kumar. I should have loved this movie. I hated it.

Let me say this first. Just because a movie has an inspiring message does not mean it's a good movie. This certainly wasn't. The first half was extremely slow. The action which kicked off the movie had too much slo mo and was tension less. All the hits felt choreographed. Some scenes were extremely gory, while other looked like they were shot to get a U/A rating. In the last battle, when everybody is dying, the moments should have been scary and sad. This movie made it sad but sentimental, thus draining the tension and flow of the action.

And this movie continued the trend of Hindi movies having aweful background music. It's very loud and it shoves down our throats the feelings we should feel.

Also, what was up with Parineeti's character. Was Akshay imagining her, or was she a ghost.

1 out of 5 for me.

The Best Superhero Movie since The Dark Knight
23 March 2019
Like TDK, this was not just a superhero movie. That movie was a crime drama, and this movie was a conspiracy thriller. It reminded me of classic espionage films like 3 days of the Condor.

The Russo brothers made one of the best action movies in the recent memory. They also made changes to Cap while keeping his roots intact, thus making him morally upright but infinitely cooler.

5 out of 5 stars for me.

Good, but not Pakula's best by far
17 March 2019
Harrison Ford plays a prosecutor who becomes the chief suspect in the death of his colleague. He as always, was great in the film. He is very good at bringing vulnerability to characters, which makes them connect with the audience.

The film was directed by Alan J Pakula, and he has made better films before. This was not a bad film at all. The only problem was the pacing. Sometimes, the movie slowed to a halt. For me, the flashback scenes were a big problem. They were necessary, and I get it, but they were not well placed.

But for me at least, the twist in the end was surprisingly good. I was I'll when I saw the movie, so I was not thinking. But the twist really surprised me. The movie was very good at misdirection.

The music was composed by the great John Williams, and it shows. It was great.

Overall, a good movie. Slightly slow, but definitely a one time watch.

3.5 out of 5 for me.

A Christmas gift from Tarantino!!!
16 March 2019
This is easily Tarantino's best film in years. Maybe better than Inglorious Bastards. It's the story of a slave turned bounty hunter who goes in search for his wife.

Jamie Foxx as Django was great. But the scene stealers were DiCaprio, Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz. All three were terrific, and although Waltz got the academy award, Jackson and DiCaprio were equally deserving.

This is not an action film, though whenever there is action, it's great. Not everyone will like this movie. Some people will get offended, and some will get grossed out by the hyper violence. But this is exactly what I love about Tarantino. He doesn't pull his punches, and is completely unapologetic.

The movie is also very humorous. There is a Klu Klux Klan scene that had me in splits. It's easily one of the funniest scenes ever filmed.

The first time I saw this movie, I thought that the movie was 15 minutes too long. However on subsequent viewings I realized that if I had been the editor, I would not have edited anything out of the movie. And if one can't think of anything to cut, then maybe it's not the movie's flaw. Maybe I just prefer short films.

I'm going with 5 out of 5 stars.

The Big Short (2015)

Interesting, and scary.
16 March 2019
Directed by Adam McKay, this is one of the best movies of the year. It is about the financial crisis of 2007 and 08, a topic I have virtually no interest in. Also, I am someone who doesn't financial terms. The movie knows this, and it had a very creative way of explaining the audience what they don't understand. I will also say this, it had some ingenious celebrity cameos. The cast of the movie is great. Steve Carrell and Christian Bale do most of the heavy lifting. Ryan Gosling, amazing as always, is the funny one. Brad Pitt, in the limited screen time that he is given, Eaves a lasting impression. The movie is also good in the way that it forces you to keep up. If you zone out, you'll probably miss out on details. In some places, the movie is intentionally frantically edited and directed to give us a documentary like feel. This is a great movie. For people who love a good screenplay, or good acting, or good humor, this should be a treat. 4 out of 5 for me.

Horrible
16 March 2019
I know I'm not the target audience for this film. But that doesn't mean a film has to be such an atrocity. The only good this about this movie is that Mahesh Babu is good in the role. He has good screen presence. Everything else, however, sucked. Let me start with the romance. It had no chemistry. The heroine was there in the movie only to sing and dance. And this movie has one of the most creepy romantic interactions in a movie, ever. Just watch out for a balcony scene. Within the first 15 minutes, I had predicted who the villain was, and what the twist was going to be. And not because I'm the smartest man in the world. But because this was one of the dumbest, most generic scripts ever written. The action in the movie was horrible. There was no tension, not a single moment where I feared for the protagnonist's life. And every single shot was in slo mo. This movie was a slog to sit through. Only die hard fans of Mahesh Babu can enjoy this movie. 1.5 out of 5.

The Avengers (2012)

Wow
14 March 2019
The Avengers was awesome. It should not have been. There were so many characters that writing a coherent screenplay and doing each character justice should have been impossible. But nevertheless, Joss Whedon managed to write an awesome screenplay. My only flaw, because let's get it out of the way, was that the first act was slightly slow. But it needed to be slow to give the characters motivations, and bring them together convincingly. I was also surprised at how funny the movie actually was. All the character, be it Iron Man or Black Widow, we're given sufficient screen time. Nobody look out of their depth. Everyone was in the movie for a reason, and in the final battle, all the characters proved to be useful. Also, this movie gave us the best version of the Hulk. Technically, the movie was flawless. Marvel has always suffered with it's villains. I am happy to say that Loki is one of the best villains ever. He was manipulative, cunning and charming at the same time. Before this movie, so many superheroes coming together seemed like a dream. Marvel was betting everything on this movie. And this movie succeeded. It has changed Hollywood forever. Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing is a debate for a different time. But this movie succeeded in everything it set out to accomplish.

Spielberg at his best!!!
14 March 2019
In my opinion, there are only a handful movies which are perfect. This is one of them. Harrison Ford plays the coolest archeologist in cinematic history, who is searching for the lost ark of the covenant, and he has to get it before the Nazis. This movie is great for a lot of reasons. The action is one of the best ever filmed. There is no shaky cam, and the stunts in this movie are some of the best stunts performed on screen. Especially, a stunt towards the end of the film where Indy is dragged behind a truck. Kudos to Harrison Ford and Vic Armstrong for risking their lives for our entertainment. Secondly, the acting, even from secondary characters is great. All the characters, be it Marion or Sallah are memorable. Also, this is a movie where all the jokes land. Lastly, the music. The music composed by John Williams in this movie is one of the best music of all time. This movie is one of the best movies ever made. It is right up there with Die Hard and The Dark Knight and T2 - judgement day. Definitely check this one out.

An unevenly paced yet engrossing thriller
14 March 2019
Based on John Grisham's book of the same name, this movie is about the murder of 2 Supreme Court justices, and how a law student gets embroiled in the conspiracy. I would like to start by saying that this is one of the better John Grisham adaptations. Julia Roberts, who does most of the heavy lifting, and Denzel Washington both give terrific performances. The movie also succededs in successfully revealing things to audience before it is revealed to the characters in the movie. The only problem with this movie was it's length, although looking back, I am not sure if anything could've been cut. Also, the film is not as successful in creating tension in the chase sequences. But nitpicking aside, this is a very competent thriller and one that I can recommend to any thriller fan, and any John Grisham fan. P.s. - The only John Grisham adaptation better than this in my opinion is the Firm.

Hilariously Atrocious
12 March 2019
I have no idea how anyone with a decent iq can like this movie. Let me clarify, I am not against commercial films, and I think Vijay is a brilliant actor with tremendous charisma and unquestionable star power. But the movie in itself is horrible. The script builds up to nothing. The romance had no spark or chemistry. The character motivations were confusing, and the villains looked like characters out of a Tom and Jerry episode. And the comedy. I have seen better comedy in children's cartoons. None of the jokes stuck the landing. As always, AR Murugadoss does not know when and where to insert songs. My biggest problem, as an action junkie, was the action. It was horribly shot. The editing in the fight sequences was jarring and incomprehensible. There was no tension. Not for a single second did I feel scared for the hero's life. My rating is 3 stars out of 10.

The Babadook (2014)
8/10
Deserves a higher rating.
10 March 2019
It is depressing to see some people trashing this movie because it doesn't have jump scares. These are the same people who make Annabelle and Ouija blockbusters.

The Babadook is nothing like these cash grabs. It has a terrific screen play, written by debutante director Jennifer Kent herself. She is in my opinion one of the best horror filmmakers. She understands the genre and does not resort to cheap tricks to sell her movie to today's attention-lacking-and-hungry-for-jump-scares audience.

The lead performances by Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman are also amazing. This is a movie which will inspire debates about it's themes and layers among cinephiles. I just hope this doesn't become that underrated horror movie that everyone talks about but no one sees

But I am pretty sure some people will hate this movie if they watch it expecting a monster flick. The marketing campaign for this movie was really misleading.

THIS IS NOT A MONSTER FLICK. IT'S A PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR FILM AND IT'S AMAZING.

Expected more from Sujoy Ghosh
10 March 2019
I am not sure if I have read way too many thriller books and seen way too many movies, but I was able to guess the twist fifteen minutes into the movie. And no, I have not seen the original Spanish version. But this movie is not without positives. Tapsee and Amitabh Bachchan have given terrific performances, and so has Amrita Singh. And the European setting makes this movie more suspenseful and moody. But that is where all the positives end for me.

Then there is the matter of the very last reveal which I could not guess. And that was because it came out of nowhere and no hints were given to the audience. A good suspense movie should not hide the clues, it should present the clues to the audience so that the audience can exercise their brain cells.

Overall, a disappointment for me.

A must watch
14 February 2019
Zoya Akhtar has done it again. She is definitely among the best filmmakers of the country. The movie is extremely inspirational and entertaining. The performances are amazing. The lead actors are phenomenal, and so are the supporting actors.

Ps - All those saying this movie is a copy of 8 miles should know that this movie is based on an actual rappe's life. And a film is not a copy of another if it is of the same genre. Also, they should get their intelligence tested.
