I remember seeing this film years ago, and if it wasn't because it was recently brought to my attention, I probably would have left it on the list of films that I have watched years ago. Mind you, I suspect that I was a teenager when I last saw this film because while I vaguely remember details, there were things in the film, such as the marijuana being grown behind the orchids, that I didn't remember. Not that it was funny or anything, it was just something that stood out to me now that I sort of missed the last time.
Anyway, the film is about a high school student who spends most of his time in the lab performing experiments (and growing marijuana for one of his friends). However, after a couple of accidents, he suddenly discovers that he has the power to move things with his mind. Well, being a 80s film set in a high school you can pretty much figure out what is going to happen, particularly when it comes to shirts flying open of their own accord. In fact, it all comes to a head at the school dance at the end, where things become really chaotic.
Actually, it sort of goes to show how little imagination that was put into this film because, well, there really didn't seem to be much in the way of a plot. However, I sort of feel sorry for the guy, especially when we discover what his parents are like. Honestly, I'm not at all surprised that he wants to spend all of his time in the highschool lab, and come back after dinner, especially when we see what his mum happens to cook.
Yet in the end, this film really has one purpose, and one purpose only, and that is to show as much flesh as possible, without being pushed past a certain limit. However, despite the low rating, there does seem to be a bit of a following to this film, probably because it is pretty much a classic 80s sex-comedy, the type that you pretty much don't see in the cinemas anymore (for a pretty good reason, namely because these days it would be considered exploitation). Still, unlike a certain genre of film, this one not only has a plot, but after the chaos that is caused at the school prom, our protagonist, Barney, does realise that maybe his powers could be put to better use than making shirts randomly pop open.
Actually, I only just discovered that the film was reshot to add more nudity. Yeah, only in the 80s.
