Jim Ignatowski is by far my favorite of the Taxi characters, and this episode is great fun centered upon his quirks.
The episode opens with Jim picking up two men at the airport, asking to go to the Plaza hotel. After asking "Is that in New York?", then figuring out it is a G7 on the map, he takes off. Shortly he announces "Here we are at the airport", before he realizes he has to go downtown.
The spark for this episode is the conversation between the two men, discussing "dynamic perfectionism", a way to achieve your goal in life by doing every little task with perfection as your goal. So Jim decides to do that in his cab driving, and quickly starts setting new records for the day's receipts.
As everyone, especially Louie, begins to admire Jim, he announces that he has achieved his goal and he will revert to his old ways, because "dynamic perfectionism" is too much work. He invites his friends to his place the next night to show them what he has been working for.
SPOILERS: Jim's goal seemed trivial to his friends, an entertainment center with 6 TVs, plus video recorders and disk players, because "everything that matters in the world is on TV." As they decide to make a quick exit, and Jim turns on the TVs, one by one they come back and take a seat to watch. Even Alex, half out the door, listens as the Delaware legislature begins to announce the decision, they will be called "Delawarians." Alex rushes back in to argue with the TV, he preferred Delawarites, even though he lives in New York. Ah, the hypnotic power of TV!
