This episode incorporates Andy Griffith's humorous monologue retelling the story of "Romeo and Juliet," much like his story "What It Was, Was Football." Both routines appeared on his 1958 album, "Just for Laughs."
Opie makes the comment that "Romeo and Juliet" would make a good TV show. Someone must have agreed because there was a television production of "Romeo and Juliet" made in every year of the decade.
Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) and Chubby Johnson (Mr. Carter) both appeared with James Stewart in Bend of the River (1952).
In 2014, a woman by the name of Sandra DeBear, with the subject line "Tammy Windsor," sent an e-mail to a fan looking for the actress "Tammy Windsor" who played Hannah Carter. The message said that she was still very much alive and was the mother of two and the grandmother of four. She said that after doing some TV shows, she joined a musical comedy group and toured, then did some nightclub work and TV commercials and ended her career as a commercial casting director. She thought that The Andy Griffith Show episode "A Feud is a Feud" was her first TV show. She didn't know how she got connected with the actress Karyn Kupcinet and she thanked him for setting the record straight that Karyn Kupcinet never went by the name "Tammy Windsor." Well, you can imagine that he was rather dumbfounded by this! Could this really be Tammy Windsor? How did she know about him and how did she get his e-mail address? Could this be someone playing a joke on him? So he wrote her back and asked her (not the part about playing a joke, though). She promptly replied and explained that Sandra DeBear is her real name. She didn't know anything about the mix-up with Karyn Kupcinet until her neighbors tried looking her up on the Internet and found the stories. She said that she thought that sometime she ought to contact the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) about it but didn't think it was a big deal since she'd been out of the business so long. Later, she met a couple of gals while on a cruise and they were interested to learn of her show business past. One woman's sister happened to find his digest posts in the WBMUTBB? mail archive and told her about them. She was curious as to how he happened to write about her. When he searched the archive himself, he realized there is a button at the bottom of the page that enables people to e-mail the person who wrote the post. That's how she was able to send him a message. Okay, this must be the real Tammy Windsor! Imagine how excited he was to hear from her out of the blue.
Karyn Kupcinet is incorrectly credited for playing Hannah Carter. Tammy Windsor is the credited name in the closing credits of this episode, which was a name Karyn Kupcinet was known for going by prior to changing her name. However, Karyn Kupcinet and the actress that plays Hannah Carter do not resemble each other at all. Karyn Kupcinet was murdered on Thanksgiving Day in 1963. Rumors speculate that her murder was linked to John F. Kennedy's assassination just six days prior to her murder.
