Jennifer Garner has been through a lot the last few years, but if she's proven anything, it's that nothing can bring her down. The actress, who is known for her sweet and bubbly personality, looked fierce as hell when she stepped out in New York City on Wednesday. Dressed in a stunning black dress and matching cape jacket, Jennifer flashed that smile we know and love as she made her way to the Save The Children Illumination Gala at The American Museum of Natural History. Jennifer, who is the foundation's trustee, hit the red carpet with former Vice President Joe Biden, his wife and the foundation's board chair, Dr. Jill Biden, its beneficiary Anna Marie, and its president and CEO, Caroline Miles. Jennifer filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in April, and the two have seemingly remained civil to coparent their three children - Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. Ben is...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from Season 3, Episode 3 of “Poldark.”]
After such an eventful premiere — which, to be fair, was actually Episodes 1 and 2 together — Sunday’s latest “Poldark” was an exercise in frustration. The majority of the action was literally about people waiting: Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) in France waiting on word from an informant about his friend Dwight Enys (Luke Norris), who’s gone missing while out at sea, and their wives waiting to hear back about their respective fates abroad. “How frustrating is a woman’s lot,” Dwight’s wife Caroline (Gabriella Wilde) laments to Ross’ better half Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson). Ah, if only being left i were the worst of it in an episode that highlighted the gender inequities of the time.
The other source of frustration was with how poorly the female characters are being used, with only a few exceptions. As with “Downton Abbey,” one of the worst positions to be in for a woman is servitude,...

Last Week’S Review: Adam and Hannah Play Out A Fantasy As Jessa’s Nightmare Comes True
Love Her or Hate Her
This entire season has been about Hannah finding a new level of maturity knowing that a baby is on the way, but up until this episode she’s always assumed she’d have the baby and live with it in New York. With Elijah, probably, in their tiny two-bedroom apartment. But with the months closing in and no real financial options presenting themselves, Hannah had to wrestle with whether or not to accept a position “teaching the Internet” at a swanky school upstate (and work for guest star Ann Dowd!) or to stay where she was with no real options. It was obvious what she was going to do from the second she was offered the job, but it made for an interesting 24-hour period of coincidences and farewells.

The Supergirl pilot, starring Melissa Benoist, is a confident, exciting and fresh season opener that tells a story rarely told....
This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.
1.1 Pilot
Supergirl is a show, much like Kara Zor-El herself, born into an unfair world. Due almost exclusively to the glaring lack of female-led superhero properties on the big and small screen, it has the weight of the world on its shoulders and unjustly, is expected to be all things to all people. As such, it will inevitably be found lacking by some.
It’s near-impossible to separate the Supergirl pilot from the preconceptions that come with its name, the 80s film version, its comic book origins, and the reaction the divisive 6-minute trailer received earlier this year. Lambasted for being too girly and too sweet, there are those who have already written Supergirl off.
Those people are missing out on something,...

Big Bird is familiar to countless people of multiple generations all around the world who grew up watching “Sesame Street.” But who’s the man behind (or inside, actually) the 8-foot-tall, perpetually six-years-old, 4,000-feathers-covered bird? Now 81, Spinney still works on the PBS show as both characters and has no plans for retirement. Los Angeles (AP) — Mickey Rooney, the pint-size, precocious actor and all-around talent whose more than 80-year career spanned silent comedies, Shakespeare, Judy Garland musicals, Andy Hardy stardom, television and the Broadway theater, died Sunday at age 93. Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said that Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home. Smith said police took a death report but indicated that there was nothing suspicious and it was not a police case. He said he had no additional details on the circumstances of his passing. Rooney started his career in his parents' vaudeville act while still a toddler, and broke into movies before age 10. He was still racking up film and TV credits more than 80 years later — a tenure likely unmatched in the history of show business. "I always say, 'Don't retire — inspire,'" he told The Associated Press in March 2008. "There's a lot to be done.

Los Angeles (AP) - Mickey Rooney, the pint-size, precocious actor and all-around talent whose more than 80-year career spanned silent comedies, Shakespeare, Judy Garland musicals, Andy Hardy stardom, television and the Broadway theater, died Sunday at age 93.
Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said that Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home.
Smith said police took a death report but indicated that there was nothing suspicious and he had no additional details on the circumstances of his passing. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office said it was not their case because Rooney died a natural death.
There were no further immediate details on the cause of death, but Rooney did attend an Oscar party last month.

Will Farrell and Jimmy Fallon in drag, Boris Johnson on Westminster power, and the world's fastest two-seater car
There's a bit of a rap theme to this week's selection, kicking off with Justin Timberlake joining Jimmy Fallon for the latest instalment of his history of rap. Meanwhile, NBC Nightly News managing editor and anchor Brian Williams raps The Sugar Hill Gang's classic Rapper's Delight – with a little help from a few friends. And if you thought that blend of words and music was impressive, you will love our amazing tongue twister rap – the video features the 67th take apparently!
Michelle Obama appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Will Ferrell in drag to promote her Let's Move! campaign. In a sketch for a fake Nickelodeon show called Ew!, she popped in to show "Stacy" and "Sarah" why eating right and exercising are not "ew!" things to do.

Birthday shoutouts go to David Gandy (above), who is 34, Beth Ditto is 33, Benicio Del Toro is 47, Smokey Robinson is 74, Justine Bateman is 46, and Seal is 51.
Debra Messing will star in the NBC pilot The Mysteries Of Laura, which “follows the life and relationships of Laura Diamond (Messing), a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her hell-raising twin children.”
Jada Pinkett Smith will star as one of the villains in the upcoming Gotham: “Smith will play Fish Mooney, an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book who is not one to be crossed.”
For the first time, Bette Midler is going to perform at The Oscars. There’s no word on what she’ll be performing, but she has a few songs that could be used during In Memoriam.

Hannah mistakenly invites Adam’s crazy sister, Caroline, to stay with them in the third episode of Girls season three, “She Said Ok.”
Adam (Adam Driver) warns Hannah (Lena Dunham) that Caroline (Gaby Hoffmann) “destroys everything,” but Hannah is optimistic about having Adam’s family stay with her. Besides, it’s Hannah’s birthday and her parents are taking them all out to dinner to celebrate her turning 25. Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) are all there for a small karaoke party. Marnie, still reeling from her breakup with Charlie, is brooding. She just found a video Charlie uploaded to YouTube of her singing a ridiculous rendition of Edie Brikell & New Bohemians’ “What I Am.” When yelling at a YouTube staffer on the phone does nothing to help erase the video from the Internet, Marnie gets Hannah to perform a duet from Rent with her on the stage.

Another installment of The Voice has come to its feel-good conclusion — and all that’s left are the inevitable debates about whether Season 5′s champ will finally be the one to achieve breakout, Clarkson- or Underwood-level success and if Mark Burnett will come to his senses and go all Michonne on those blasted SwayBots between now and next spring. (Forgive them, Father, for they know not how to keep time with the music.)

We already know Alexi Ashe looked gorgeous when she said "I Do" to Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers, and now we have official pics (courtesy of Vogue magazine) from the gorgeous couple's ceremony! The funnyman wed his longtime girlfriend on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts on Sunday, Sept. 1., and the lovebirds couldn't have appeared happier on their big day. Good morning!
Lily Tomlin plays Tina Fey's mom in Admission. That's a must-see come March!
Because we'll be taking some time off for the holidays next week, we won't be posting Morning Brew. But we will be putting up our year-in-review posts, aka the best and worst of lesbian visibility in movies, TV, books, music and politics. So make sure to come see us when you're done opening gifts and drinking eggnog.
African actress Chinyere Okoye says she is tired of lesbian rumors and that if she was gay, she'd just come out and say it. So would I! I'm a lesbian. That should stop the rumor mill.
The best thing about all the tabloid articles about Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's possible romance is that they can never make up their minds about what "sources say.

One day after 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 'Saturday Night Live' opened with a tribute to those lost on Dec. 15. The New York City Children's Chorus opened the Dec. 15 episode of Saturday Night Live by singing "Silent Night," a clear departure from SNL's usual comedy routine-type opening. The song was performed in tribute to the 20 children and six adults who were shot and killed by Adam Lanza, 20, on Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School. At the closing of the Christmas song, the chorus turned back to tradition and shouted, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" If you have yet to watch Thursday’s The Vampire Diaries, avert your eyes now. Everyone else, you may proceed…
Though Thursday night’s The Vampire Diaries was dangerous for many of Mystic Falls’ residents, Connor and Elena paid the biggest price.
The hunter was offed by the newbie vamp, who then started to see visions of the word “killer” written in blood. Meanwhile, Damon and Stefan decided not to tell Elena that she killed the one person with the key to a cure for vampirism. (Little do they know, Jeremy’s now got the mysterious tattoo.)

The team behind the original Danish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo reunite for period drama A Royal Affair. It is the age of enlightenment in Europe, but in Denmark the nobility rule by oppression, supported by strong religious forces. Caroline Mathilde (Alicia Vikander) is married off to King Christian VII of Denmark (Mikkel Boe Folsgaard) before she even meets him. Having never left England before, Caroline is excited by the prospect of a “new life” and new language but disappointed to discover Christian has little interest in her.
When they first meet, the King is hiding behind a tree and initial interactions are believably awkward. It soon becomes clear, Christian is more than just disinterested when he orders her to “Move [her] fat little thighs and have a seat”. Described as “sick and tormented”, Christian certainly does enough to try anyone's patience – unashamedly sleeping with prostitutes, loudly reciting...

Black performers have played a pivotal role not just in entertainment, but in changing the way blacks and whites in America lived, worked and related to each other. And comedians especially, with their penchant for crossing lines and speaking uncomfortable truths, have been some of the most influential artists of the last century.
In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to take a look at the influence of black comedians through the eyes of the artists who are following in their footsteps.
So we brought six up-and-coming young comics together for a unique roundtable discussion about comedy, race and the most influential performers of the past and present.
