Chad Michael Murray is open to returning to the Freaky Friday sequel and reprising his role of Jake alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
In a new interview, the actor said he would like to be involved in the sequel film currently being developed by Disney.
“If Jake has a story to tell, I’d be there in a heartbeat,” Murray told E! News while promoting Mother of the Bride. “Are you kidding me? Just to watch Jamie and Lindsay, to go back to work… To watch all that energy that Jamie brings to set… Hollywood royalty, period.”
Murray said he “learned so much” from Curtis on the set of the 2003 film and added, “If I had the opportunity, I would just dial in.”

Freaky Friday 2 is moving ahead at Disney with Nisha Ganatra directing, here are the details we’ve got of the follow-up.
While Jamie Lee Curtis is of course a horror icon from the Halloween franchise, and she won an Oscar in 2022 for her performance in Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Freaky Friday, the beloved body swap film in which she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, is a terrific comedic performance.
Based on the book by Mary Rodgers, the 2003 film, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, follows Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa,...

It’s 2003 again. Lindsay Lohan is one of the most popular, but also controversial young stars, with her private life possibly being more interesting than her work. Jamie Lee Curtis, on the other hand, is a well-established star who had a breakout role in Carpenter’s Halloween. The two of them are united in Disney’s Freaky Friday, directed by Mark Waters. The movie premiered on August 6, 2003, and became both a critical and commercial success, earning a cult following in the upcoming decades.
Now, twenty years after the premiere, in May 2023, Disney announced that a sequel – Freaky Friday 2 – was in the works and we finally have some great casting updates related to the sequel, as both Lohan and Lee Curtis are seemingly coming back for the sequel.
On top of that, Nisha Ganatra, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who has worked on numerous television series, has been hired to direct the sequel.

The 2003 version of Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is getting a long-awaited follow-up. Rumors of a Freaky Friday sequel starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have been circulating for years and it seems like a movie is finally happening.

A Freaky Friday sequel is officially in the works at Disney with both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No plot details for the film have been shared, but Elyse Hollander is writing the script. Released in 2003, Freaky Friday was already a remake; it originated as a Mary Rodgers novel in 1972, and its first film adaptation followed in 1976. But the Lohan-Curtis version — written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon and directed by Mark Waters — has become a fan favorite thanks to, among many other things, Lohan’s punky Anna, her band Pink Slip, and an incredible scene in which Curtis and Chad Michael Murray sing Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time.” It grossed over $160 million worldwide.
Lohan and Curtis have long been willing to reprise their roles in the film, which sees a mother and daughter switch bodies and learn to accept their differences.

There are more versions of "Freaky Friday" than the casual reader may realize. The original 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers ("Once Upon a Mattress") is about a 13-year-old girl named Annabel and her put-upon mother as they are currently living through a period of antagonism. In what might be considered a grand cosmic joke, Annabel and her mother magically swap bodies for a day -- a freaky Friday -- forcing them to live one another's lives and see how difficult the other has it. They eventually swap back having learned important lessons. The book borrows its premise from an 1882 fantasy novel by F. Anstey called "Vice Versa, or a Lesson to Fathers." Rodgers wrote two sequels, "A Billion for Boris" in 1974 and "Summer Switch" in 1982.
"Freaky Friday" was first adapted to film in 1976 by director Gary Nelson in a celebrated version starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. Thanks to heavy rotation on TV,...

“Freaky Friday” first introduced its mother-daughter body-switching narrative as a novel by Mary Rodgers in 1972 and has since been adapted multiple times. At this point, crying out against remakes is a fruitless endeavor. No matter which version of a beloved property one may deem is the ultimate adaptation, another is bound to come along. It’s the nature of having an intriguing story with timeless themes, such as “Freaky Friday’s” parent-child dynamics.
What does matter, however, is the thought and quality put into updating the story. In the case of Disney Channel’s latest adaptation, dusting off “Freaky Friday” to reimagine it as a full-blown, Broadway-inflected musical is more than worth the effort thanks to its talented cast, infectious songs, and lively musical numbers.

Disney knows a good thing when it sees it. The studio has adapted Mary Rodgers’ 1972 children’s novel “Freaky Friday” into a feature film three times, a stage musical once and now a TV movie for Disney Channel, premiering Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
And the company can identify a good team too. When Disney Theatrical Prods. developed the stage version in 2016, producers turned to the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning composing team of Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (lyrics). The book was written by Bridget Carpenter. Disney decided to keep the collaborators together for the TV adaptation.
“Tom and Brian are the perfect team for ‘Freaky Friday,’” says Thomas Schumacher, president and producer of Disney Theatrical. “Their connection to the Mary Rodgers novel was deep, and they’ve provided the show with a score that’s funny, moving and wise.”
Indeed, Kitt and Yorkey had been longtime fans of the material.

August 10 will be Freaky Friday for Disney Channel. The cable net has set that midsummer date for the premiere of its musical version of the classic mother-daughter body-swap.
Directed by Steve Carr, the latest take on Mary Rodgers’ classic book stars Heidi Blickenstaff, who played the mom role in the stage version, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff of the Dolphin Tale films as the bickering mother and daughter who both wish they could switch places with the other for a day. But be careful what you wish for: they magically wake up one freaky Friday in each other’s body and begin a journey of self-discovery and empathy neither one could have imagined.
Disney also made Freaky Friday theatrical features in 1976 starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, and in 2003 with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Its 1995 telefilm version starred Gaby Hoffmann and Shelley Long.

Mary Rodgers’ best-selling 1972 children’s book “Freaky Friday” spawned two Disney movies, the most recent a 2003 hit starring Jamie Lee Curtis and a pre-meltdown Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who mysteriously swap bodies to learn hard-earned life lessons. Now the story has become the latest Disney stage musical, opening Friday at the La Jolla Playhouse following a premiere last fall at Washington, D.C.’s Signature Theatre. This “Freaky Friday” has a lot to recommend it, starting with a smartly updated book by TV veteran Bridget Carpenter (“Friday Night Lights”) as well as a mostly bouncy score by composer Tom.

Irish stage and screen character actor who appeared in Barbarella, The Verdict and the BBC's 1969 sitcom Me Mammy
For a performer of such fame and versatility, the distinguished Irish character actor Milo O'Shea, who has died aged 86, is not associated with any role in particular, or indeed any clutch of them. He was chiefly associated with his own expressive dark eyes, bushy eyebrows, outstanding mimetic talents and distinctive Dublin brogue.
His impish presence irradiated countless fine movies – including Joseph Strick's Ulysses (1967), Roger Vadim's Barbarella (1968) and Sidney Lumet's The Verdict (1982) – and many top-drawer American television series, from Cheers, The Golden Girls and Frasier, right through to The West Wing (2003-04), in which he played the chief justice Roy Ashland.

When it comes to the Lindsay Lohan remakes of 70s-era Disney movies, I am firmly in favor of the best two, The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. But honestly, being able to make decent remakes of either of those movies was a complete fluke, and trying it again would be completely foolish. Well, Disney is at least smart enough not to try it, and CBS Films isn't doing it... not exactly. Instead they're adapting Freaky Monday, the follow-up book written by original Freaky Friday author Mary Rodgers and Heath Hach, who sold CBS Films the rights. According to Variety the book finds an insecure girl (apparently not the original Jodie Foster character) switching places with her sympathetic English teacher, which sounds like a much less interesting switch than the mother-daughter combo. Still, body-switching comedies are always in vogue, and I'll admit I've got a weakness for them myself. They've got...

Back in 2003, the remake of Freaky Friday made lots of money for Disney. So it only stands to reason that a sequel would be developed. Yet now, six years later, the Mouse House is not behind a possible new film - nope, CBS Films is spurring the sequel project, albeit with the Lindsay Lohan movie's team attached to shepherd it along. Director MArk Waters - who will apparently only produce this time and producer Andrew Gunn are overseeing work on adapting the novel Freaky Monday, written by Heather Hach and Mary Rodgers. Hach was one of...

Remember the days when Lindsay Lohan was famous as an actress in quirky teen comedies? Remember how good she was in Freaky Friday? Well, somebody does, since CBS has just optioned a novel sequel to the movie in the shape of Freaky Monday. Now this won't involve Lohan or Jamie Lee Curtis, stars of Freaky Friday (but we just couldn't resist that picture below), since it centres on a whole new body swop. In this case, it's a smart-but-insecure teenager who ends up swapped into her teacher's body. The novel was written by Legally Blonde: The Musical writer Heather Hachs, along with Mary Rodgers, the author of the original Freaky Friday way back in 1973. There's no word yet on a cast or crew for this one, but Mark Waters, who directed the Lee Curtis / Lohan film, is producing so it's possible he'll direct as well. Either way, expect body-switching hilarity...

I wonder which is more surprising: that it took to 6 years for someone to think of cashing in with a sequel to Freaky Friday or that it's not even coming from Disney! CBS Films acquired the rights to Freaky Monday, co-written by the original 1973 novel's author Mary Rodgers with the Lohan-version screenwriter Heather Hatch. That one also wrote the Legally Blonde musical. Insert sound of thousands of guys slapping their forehead at the thought of a grueling chick-flick date. Let's have a...
