Thanks to Baz Luhrmann's electrifying 2022 biopic "Elvis," fans new and old (some very old at this point) have enthusiastically delved into the cultural icon's past to get a more nuanced understanding of how this Tennessee-born mama's career took so many unexpected turns before he collapsed in a pharmaceutically-induced heap at the age of 42.
Every chapter of Presley's life is packed with decisions both brilliant and personally/professionally self-destructive. Indeed, his tragic arc might just be the definitive showbiz cautionary tale. His was an incandescent (if highly derivative) talent that attracted opportunists and admirers; he was treated as a product, and, thus, had an awful tendency to treat those who genuinely loved him with the respect and tenderness they deserved.
Speaking of tenderness, Presley's value as an entertainment commodity was, at its early peak, so dizzyingly high that he could work around his newly signed contract with Paramount Pictures...

Following Meghan and Harry’s tour of Nigeria, experts are saying that the duo have fulfilled some kind of exiled royal prophecy because the abdicated King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson also carried out what was termed “faux royal tours” during their own time.
This Senior Royal Bestowed Meghan Markle A Title That Compares Her To Wallis Simpson
According to reports, Philip is said to have given Meghan the nickname Meghan “D.O.W” in a nod to Wallis’ Duchess of Windsor title following her wedding to Edward in 1937.
In a chat on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Historian Gareth Russell observed that there are similarities between former American actress Meghan and the American socialite, Wallis Simpson, who was the reason Edward VIII abdicated his position as King.

Tom Cruise is undoubtedly one of the finest actors Hollywood has to offer and the biggest superstars of all time. Despite his status in the film industry, his colleagues have vouched for his generosity and graciousness on set. The actor doesn’t have diva moments like you would expect someone of his caliber to. However, he does have a strange request when it comes to his co-stars.
The Mummy (2017)
The shots of Tom Cruise running in his films are almost as iconic as his roles. Perhaps this is why he doesn’t allow his co-stars to run alongside him on screen. He wants all the attention to himself and honestly, we cannot blame him for that! Actress Annabelle Wallis though, had the privilege of being the exception to the rule and for her, it was better than winning an Oscar!

Dwayne Johnson and Tom Cruise are two of the top-billed actors in Hollywood at present. Both actors have become the go-to for action films, and they deliver high-stakes action in every film they appear in.

They each have their own unique traits, and for Cruise, it is his running style. This is why, when their styles were compared, Johnson had to come to his own defense.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, caught royal watchers by surprise in 2020 when they announced that they were stepping down from royal duties and moving to America. What was even more surprising for the royal family were the public shots the duke and duchess took at members of the Firm and the monarchy as a whole after they left.
At first, it seemed like the couple just wanted their truth out there. Somewhere along the line though the constant attacks on an institution that couldn’t fight back along with two very wealthy and privileged people always playing the victim card, got old. The Sussexes finally saw that themselves and in 2024, decided to do a complete rebrand and refrain from airing out any more dirty royal laundry.

Jack Warner had been shouldering in on credit from one of his studio’s top producers. At least that’s what Hal Wallis may have told you after the 1944 Academy Awards when Jack Warner accepted the Casablanca Oscar that some felt should have been palmed by Wallis, the Warner Bros. film’s producer. But who should accept the best picture award? Today it’s the producers, but during Hollywood’s Golden Age it was sometimes the producer, sometimes the studio chief.
Wallis had been with the company for many years, first joining the studio in 1923, their first year of incorporation. Soon, Wallis was managing essential Warner films such as Little Caesar (1931), The Petrified Forest (1936), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1937), Dark Victory (1939), Sergeant York (1941), The Maltese Falcon (1941), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), and, of course, Casablanca (1942). Another day, another book on the British royal family. After the drama surrounding Omid Scobie’s Endgame and claims in a King Charles III biography comes yet another tome with bombshells. This time, it’s royal biographer Ingrid Seward’s My Mother and I, about the king and his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Excerpts ahead of the book’s release include bombshell claims about everyone from the late monarch and Princess Diana to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Here are just a few.
1. Royal biography bombshell: Prince Philip warned the queen about Meghan Markle
According to an excerpt of Seward’s biography published by the Daily Mail, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99, wasn’t exactly a fan of the Duchess of Sussex.

James Wan is one of our true modern horror masters. As the man who gave us the "Saw" and "Insidious" franchises, not to mention "The Conjuring" universe, there are few filmmakers working today who can claim they've done as much to further the genre since the turn of the century. One of the filmmaker's only horror films to not start a franchise, actually, remains 2021's "Malignant." But that's not to say a franchise is out of the question, as Wan won't rule out a reunion with Madison and Gabriel.
/Film's own Jacob Hall recently spoke with Wan in honor of the release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," which sees Wan putting on his blockbuster hat once again. During the conversation, he asked Wan what it would take to make "Malignant 2" happen. Here's what he had to say about it:
"It's funny how much 'Malignant 2' questions I get asked.

Dolores Fuller was an actor who had a relationship with Ed Wood, the director of Plan 9 from Outer Space. That film is widely considered one of the worst movies ever made, though it has a strong cult following among people who like camp classics. Fuller appeared in secondary roles in some of Wood’s films, such as Glen or Glenda and Bride of the Monster.

I’ve been so fascinated by that because it just goes to show how you can be tainted by everybody’s opinion, even when it is wrong. In fact, she begged the Prince of Wales not to marry her.

What does the future hold for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? One royal expert thinks they could wind up leading an eerily similar life to King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in order to marry the woman he loved.

The duke and duchess, however, have publicly made their feelings about the Firm known in televised interviews, podcasts, a Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s tell-all book Spare.
Now with King Charles III’s coronation on the horizon and the Sussexes still undecided about whether or not they will attend the event, a royal commentator believes the monarch could end up excluding them from family by pretending they “do not exist.”

For Kirk Douglas, "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" was a breath of fresh air amid military man roles in the likes of "Top Secret Affair" and Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory." Opposite Burt Lancaster's mythical lawman Wyatt Earp, gunslinger Doc Holliday was resolute but ill, a former dentist with a telltale cough that followed him throughout the 122-minutes of runtime. In his autobiography "The Ragman's Son," Douglas makes it clear that he was into Leon Uris' script not so much as a loose historical account but as "an interesting relationship between two men."
Both men –- Lancaster and Douglas –- had some history with "Gunfight" producer Hal Wallis, whose Best Picture Academy Award for "Casablanca" had been on his mantle for over a decade by this time. The pair previously starred in Lizabeth Scott's '47 noir classic "I Walk Alone," backed by Wallis. Wallis eventually parted ways...

Age is just a number and it’s a sign that we’re all getting very, very old because we might actually get our first male acting Oscar winner who was born in the 1990s this year.
No man who entered this world in the ’90s has won an Oscar in either acting category yet. There are three currently in the running, two in Best Actor — Austin Butler (“Elvis”), who was born in 1991, and Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”), who was born in 1996 — and one in Best Supporting Actor, Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), who was born in 1992. But it’s Butler who has the best shot to take home the gold as he’s locked in a three-man battle with Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) and Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) for the prize. Butler, who’s already bagged the Best Drama Actor Golden Globe for his turn as Elvis Presley,...

Awards season always turns up note-worthy moments: showstopping outfits, witty speeches or egregious faux-pas are instantly turned into memes and circulated endlessly on social media.
In 2021, one moment in particular captivated viewers worldwide, and that was watching eight-year-old actor Alan Kim – dressed in a tuxedo – tear up while accepting a Critics Choice Award for his scene-stealing part in the critically acclaimed film Minari.
After a successful season, however, which included a Bafta nod, the young star was eventually shut out of the Oscars. It was a shame – in a year of history-making nominations for the Academy Awards, seeing Kim recognised would have been the cherry on top.
But it was always a long shot. Child actors are a welcome but infrequent inclusion at the Oscars – their rarity though, does make every instance especially memorable.

In "Peaky Blinders," Cillian Murphy effortlessly leads the crime drama series as Tommy, the Shelby family patriarch and Peaky Blinders boss, while Helen McCrory's character Aunt Polly is the family's pragmatist; she believes in being realistic and is often Tommy's voice of reason. As for the other Shelby brothers, they've dedicated themselves to fulfilling Tommy's dreams for the family and rising to the top. Every character in "Peaky Blinders" is complex, layered and almost always wavering between the good and the bad. They're anti-heroes in their own right. Casting actors for a show where there's no good and bad guy, so to say, is no easy task, and you'd be surprised to learn which character was the toughest to cast.

Before Annabelle Wallis' Grace Burgess fell in love with Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and married him, she worked as a barmaid and undercover agent for the Birmingham Police. Initially tasked with getting close to the Shelby family patriarch, Grace falls in love with him, thus kickstarting their tumultuous journey. Her complex character arc saw her betray the gangster and marry another man before finally becoming Tommy's wife in season 3. Grace's death was tragic and transformed "Peaky Blinders," forever altering the course of Tommy's life and hurrying his downfall. Grace played a pivotal role in Tommy's life — she helped him stay grounded — and losing her devastated him beyond measure.
As one of the first female operatives for the Crown, Grace was charming, intelligent, and observant: she wanted to prove herself. She was strong-willed and determined, and Annabelle Wallis took her role as a personal challenge. The actress has revealed how "Peaky Blinders...

Humphrey Bogart is one of the great icons of classic Hollywood. His trademark snarl and surprising romantic heroism sealed his legendary status in pop culture at large. For how inescapable his impact was, it's hard to imagine a period in sound film before him. But his rise to stardom took time. He wasn't exactly gunning down Nazis in Casablanca in his first year on the Warner Bros. lot.
What he was doing for most of his '30s performances was playing the background gangster in the studio's many crime melodramas. In movies with titles like "Bullets or Ballots" and "Racket Busters," audiences could rely on him showing up, grimacing, and probably dying in a moral way by movie's end. If he wasn't in a gangster movie, he could be oddly miscast, such as his appearance as an Irish stable master in the Bette Davis weepie "Dark Victory." No role was...

Unlike many classic movies about World War 2, "Casablanca" was made during the war. The film was released in 1942, just under a year after America entered the conflict, and is set a year earlier in the eponymous Moroccan city. Club owner Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) discovers that his old flame Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) and her husband Victor Laszlo (Paul Heinrid), both Nazi resistance fighters, are in Casablanca and looking to escape to America.
The film shows Casablanca as a refugee hub, full of unique characters scattered to the winds by Nazi oppression of their homelands. Rick, the sole American in the cast, becomes an avatar of his country's role in the war; he's initially neutral but ultimately chooses the right side. Underlining this, the film is set mere days before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which pushed America into the war.

Adeptly played by "Malignant" alum Annabelle Wallis, Grace Burgess is one of the key figures in "Peaky Blinders" history. Ever since her season 1 appearance as an undercover barmaid/plant-turned-love interest for Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), the character's complex arc saw her betray and then fall for the ambitious gangster, marry another man, carry Thomas' child, then eventually become Thomas' wife before her tragic death in series 3, breaking Thomas Shelby's heart and hastening his mental downfall for the rest of the series. It's an excellent performance backed by a continually thrilling performance, and the series wouldn't be what it is without her driving role in Thomas' mental state.

With our nation increasingly divided, several media gurus over the July 4 break decreed that Hollywood owed filmgoers a “feel-good-about-America” movie. Something unifying and patriotic, like a contemporary Yankee Doodle Dandy.
When I did some research, I concluded that they had a point. With the exception of those by-the-numbers World War II action movies, the industry has never been proficient at patriotism.
I therefore decided to bite the bullet and rerun the 80-year-old Warner Bros film. It was enlightening: As an old-fashioned song-and-dance extravaganza, Yankee Doodle Dandy turned out to be wicked fun. As an exercise in patriotism, however, its message was borderline anarchy.
Maybe the times back then (the early 1940s) were as disorienting as they are today. Why would Warner Bros and producer Hal Wallis cast its gangster superstar James Cagney (Public Enemy) as a family-loving patriot? Cagney had famously slammed a grapefruit into a co-star’s face.
