Review of Cindy

Cindy (1978 TV Movie)
10/10
A perfect 10!

I remember this gem very well. I believe it was filmed on video stock (like the soaps). I think it is feature-length, although it moves so quickly and it's so enjoyable that the time flies by as you watch it. I cannot understand why it is not available on DVD or any other format.

Charlayne Woodard does a fantastic job portraying a modern day Cinderella living in Harlem. Well, its not quite modern day, since it seems to be set back in the 1930's. I love her constantly sweet disposition in spite of the abuse she has to endure. And we see that it pays off in the end.

The supporting cast is wonderful.

I don't consider myself a fan of musicals, but the songs are really catchy and great to listen to. Ms. Woodard proves to be an excellent singer, as well as Nell Carter and the rest of the vocals.

I had video taped this off of the Disney channel in the mid 1980's and I last viewed it around 98, but then I loaned it out and it was last seen. As I viewed it though, I realized that, in spite of being made in 1978, it doesn't have that "dated" feel about it and has actually aged very well.

This would be a welcomed treat to watch for any age, especially in these days of horrible "family" TV programming. This one gets 10 out of 10 stars.
