Review of Guess Who

Guess Who (2005)
7/10
Boy meets parents in law. That's it!
10 December 2005
It was an OK movie for its category, that being the films made on a conveyor belt by using a big molded pattern. You take some actors, add some small, insignificant spice to the movie, then you stamp it hard to take the form of movies you know had success. Moderate success, but with a huge English speaking audience, moderate brings you the big buck.

Now, for this horrible, boring movie category, this film was OK. Ashton played OK, so did big Mac, all the rest was cliché after cliché. Somehow, movies about boys meeting her parents or the first time, goofing a bit, then succeeding to be part of the family always find an audience. It is always painful and, in most cases, a complete failure, but still, after going through this, we watch movies of other people going through the same routine. Are we masochistic or are we sadists?

In this particular film, the boy is white, while the (unsuspecting) family is black. This is the small spice additive. The rest just follows the pattern.
