Peace in our time (1938)
22 January 2006
A pacifist work,as "La Grande Illusion" or "J'accuse" or "les Croix de Bois " were. And anyway at the time Peace's days were numbered.

When the film says "peace on the Rhine" ,it means it.Intellectuals plan a reconciliation and a German/French friendship, which ,in Hitler's time was wishful thinking.

The movie is more dated than the three works I mention above. The best is the duel French (Alsatian at that!) mummy-in-law Françoise Rosay

/German daughter-in-law Dita Parlo. The latter wins hands down ,her tenderness ,her calm and her understanding win over the viewer.Rosay ,dressed up as an Alsatian complete with folk costume borders on ludicrous.

How unprophetic!
