Ryan who? Anna Faris is the real star of the movie

Warning: Spoilers
Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) is a successful L.A. music executive who winds up back in his hometown for the holidays when his plane breaks down nearby. Once there, memories return of him trying to pursue Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart), the girl of his dreams, who in high school always thought of him as her best friend, but never gave him a chance at romance. Before he knows it, he's back pursuing again, having to face the competition from a much more worthy suitor (Chris Klein) as well as dealing with a psycho pop singer who has tagged along (Anna Faris).

Despite how horrible the previews looked, Just Friends is actually a pretty good comedy. It's not the funniest film of the year but it's a nice way to spend 90 minutes. Even though Ryan Reynolds gets top billing for the film, Anna Faris is the true star of the movie. She's great as this crazy, over the top diva. Too bad she didn't get as much screen time as the other stars. Ryan Reynolds gives good performance, nothing special though. Amy Smart was bland and not very interesting. She actually is a talented actress but this role did not suit her and she brought the film down. Her character is very shallow and it's unclear why Chris (Ryan) would want her. So there's no chemistry between these two, this obviously hurts the film. Chris Klein was actually okay which is probably the biggest surprise. Chris Marquette was okay as the younger brother, kind of annoying though.

The film starts off rather poorly because they show Ryan in that stupid looking fat suit. Luckily, the fat suit only appears for the first ten minutes and in a few other short scenes. The first half of the film is pretty good, with a nice amount of laughs. Around the middle, the film slows down a bit and gets a little dull. The ending is also a little weak because it kind of ruins the story. I don't think they should have gotten together because it shows that she's shallow. I know its just a harmless movie but it kind of ruins the story and the whole "just friends" thing. In the end, Just Friends is a decent comedy that should serve as a solid rental. Rating 6/10
