Modern Western with Classic Flare
16 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A classic cautionary tale in the tradition of Cain and Abel, this modern western, back-dropped by stunning Texas vistas, a masterful score, and passionate performances, follows the trail of a dark-hearted man who tried to gain success through the murder of his own brother.

A solid first outing by young filmmakers with vision and drive, "The Devil Wears Spurs," tackles it's subject matter with urgency, yet maintains a genuinely poetic visual style and even pacing. Several wisely crafted and incorporated comic roles belie the dark tone that permeates the story, but the film is relentless in it's stern examination of reckless ambition and just revenge.

A film for fans of the classic American western, or anyone interested in traditional literary tragedy, "The Devil Wears Spurs," is a worthy addition to any library.
