Sandcastles (1972 TV Movie)
10/10
Great emoitional impact!
4 October 2006
"Jenna Hampshire", played by Bonnie Bedelia, is a musician struggling to make a living and feeling very depressed, looking to the solace of the ocean for peace. In walks the mysterious stranger played by Jan Michael Vincent. This must have been a huge crowd pleaser for nine year old girls at the time of its release, because this movie is also one that I saw at that age and never forgot. Never the less, even watching in my adult life, Jan Michael plays a mesmerizing part and one can easily be swept into the love story that develops between he and "Jenna". Aside from Ghost, I am also somewhat reminded of the 1999 Kevin Costner movie entitled "Message in a Bottle". Real romance is often full of ups and downs in normal life as most people experience it. Its unfortunate that many movies of today are more worried with the sexiness aspects instead of the emotions created by the work. If I want sexiness, I'll turn on the adult channels or rent a movie, but when I want romance, I want something that likens itself to the way people experience love in real life.-- It just makes me feel closer to the movie. Sandcastles does exactly that. You can't help but feel heartbroken with the character's plight. When a movie and its cast can leave an emotional impact on you, they have done their job well. A+ for this one.
