Jealous Ballerinas
30 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The Unfinished Dance is a film set in the world of ballet. A young girl named Meg (Margaret O'Brien) is absolutely obsessed with dancing and with those who do it well. She admires Mlle. Bouchet (Cyd Charisse) and follows her around, watching everything she does and aching to be in her presence. She feels slighted when a new, more famous ballerina comes to dance the lead in Swan Lake, a woman named La Darina (Karin Booth). Meg's plan is to spoil her performance by turning the lights off during her show, but she accidentally pulls the lever to the trap door and causes Darina to have a major accident which jeopardizes her career. Through her convalescence, Meg becomes quite close to Darina and regretful of her mistake.

This film is really carried by the wonderful classical music and by O'Brien's strong performance. Her strong love for dance and ballerinas can be scary at times, but she's a talented performer. Was she really dancing in this movie? If so, I'm very impressed by her talents.

The ending to this film is a bit disappointing. The climax is not as major as it could have been, and it seems to be cut short. The rest of the film is very enjoyable though.
