Review of Twilight

Twilight (I) (2008)
8/10
never read the series.. cast was perfect!
24 November 2008
I never have actually read the twilight series and had never even heard of them until this movie came out so going into this movie I really had no idea what to expect. I dragged my boyfriend to it with me promising him it was supposed to be really good even though I had read bad reviews on this site about the movie so I was nervous it would turn out awful and corny and really hard to sit through and be never allowed to choose the movie to go see again.

I was actually really surprised by how much I actually enjoyed seeing this movie. It won't be up for an Oscar or anything but I feel like it was perfectly cast. If the casting wasn't so good this movie could have turned out awful. Even Bella and her dad looked alike and made a believable pair. I even fell in love with Bella's friends who portrayed that teenage awkwardness and sometimes immaturity perfectly and were very funny. It was a good contrast to the much more mature, serious relationship with Edward that Bella had. Kristin Stewart who played Bella seemed pretty distant in the film but I think that was just how her character was supposed to be and I thought she did excellent, Her and Robert Pattinson (Edward) made a potentially very corny relationship into something real and something desired to have. Pattinson was also the perfect cast in this film. He carried out his part well and at times when I was waiting for something he'd say to make me cringe, I never actually did, he was very charming and even the little funny parts that got snuck in were funny. If they weren't supposed to be funny then I don't really care because I still enjoyed it and feel like I was laughing with the movie and not at it... most of the time. Unfortunately me and my boyfriend watched the Southpark episode that poked fun at the movie beforehand, so a lot of the time I would hear my boyfriend bust out laughing because he said all he could picture was Butters as a "vampire kid." I also had some flashbacks to the South Park episode but it didn't ruin the movie at all. In the end he thanked me for taking him to the movie because he actually thought it was good!

All in all, it was a good decently light fun movie to see (i was afraid it would get really deep and overly dramatic but I don't think it did) and I loved that it wasn't entirely serious. I will definitely be seeing it again. I think I'll even try to read the series now. Maybe the editing or special effects were bad as a lot of people commented on, but I didn't notice, I wasn't out to look for mistakes either though. Just enjoy it!
