Review of Cartoons on Tour

Part live action/part animation with neither mixing, Cartoons on Tour is an Edison production with Raoul Barre providing the moving drawings. In the live action part, a woman is killing time by looking at a picture book while waiting for a car ride. In the first animated segment, a man sees an elephant crying and attempts to have him stop by giving him something that makes him sneeze. The exaggerated result was amusing if primitive. In the second one, a boy who's taken up in the air holding a stringed balloon gets greeted by a bird who he tells to "Cheese it." The bird doesn't so the boy grabs the birds head while the rest of his body falls down below! The third drawn segment has a middle-aged man drinking some water that makes him go back to being a baby. And the last one has an old man sitting on a rocking chair dreaming of bouncing his grandson on his knee. This first three has some punchline or surprise ending that provides some entertainment that I was somewhat astounded by given the times. The last was just what I described so no great shakes there. This was a fascinating obscurity that I found on YouTube. So on that note, if you're both a silent movie buff or an animation one, Cartoons on Tour is worth a look.
