Review of Clerks II

Clerks II (2006)
6/10
Probably just for the fans

Usually I'm not a big supporter of these belated sequels, but I'm making an exception for this one because I actually cared what Randall and Dante had been up to. Initially the proceedings aren't particularly interesting though. Whatever plot there is is pretty much identical to the first one, Dante is stuck in yet another love triangle in which he has to choose between yadda yadda yadda, seen it. This storyline gets annoying amounts of screen time, seeing how it's obvious from the first minute on who he's going to end up with. It makes the first half drag like crazy. The second half however is significantly better and leads up to a surprisingly beautiful ending which wraps up the View Askewniverse perfectly. The movie's also has its fair share of funny scenes, which is a nice plus. The donkey scene is worryingly amusing, and Randall is still as great as he was in the original. Granted, insulting someone on a goddamn blog is probably the lamest thing the character has ever done, but things like the "porch monkey" scene definitely make up for that. This sequel isn't nearly as good as the first one, but it does manage to add some things to it.
