Mutants are growing weapons from severed limbs and it's up to Eihi Shiina, the hot skinny actress from Audition, to stop them with her katana. This sort of exercise is not for the squeamish, but for those wondering whether it delivers on the box cover hype, believe me it does. The horrific effects are tremendously imaginative and quite convincingly executed, effectively creating an otherworldly experience in a nightmare world. The movie plays like a live action version of anime horror movies like Demon City Shinjuku or Wicked City and is superior to the Hong Kong remake of the latter movie thanks to a better cast and more convincing visuals. Ultimately this movie is more funny than scary, but is hugely entertaining and recommended for anyone looking to take a walk on the wild side of Japanese ultra-violence.
