A stinker

Warning: Spoilers
Make that Himalaya stink.

Bizarre strange and utterly messy film about three men, love, the nature of consciousness and reality, the mischief caused by a two headed snake, a magical oil and I don't know what else.

Its a mess.

Coming from Ka-Fai- Wai, frequent collaborator of Johnnie To and the man responsible for the more off kilter elements in their collaborations, I knew I was in for a bumpy ride. What I didn't expect was a film that skids off the rails at the start and then just keeps sliding.

It's a film with a new definition of broad humor. There's also a new definition of stupid and knowing humor as well.

Can you tell I really didn't like it? Ultimately the film concerns three men and their efforts to find enlightenment and love through various means. The titled character is most enlightened and destined to be come the next messenger of Brahma, who must never be woken since if he is we will all disappear with the rest of reality.Another character thinks he's dreaming when awake and awake when dreaming, and I don't know about the third guy, he didn't make an impression. They travel about get hooked up with some women and then compete for a yoga master's daughters hand in marriage.

The best part of the movie is the end-the punchline...or what should have been the punch line-namely Brahma waking up and the world disappearing only to restart. The problem is we see the restarted world and its worse then before.

This is a first class sinker.
