Don't let his looks fool you
12 October 2010
***SPOILERS*** Based on the 1952 pulp novel by Jim Thompson the film "The Killer inside Me" is as graphically violent as any movie can get. In it we have this baby face psychopath deputy sheriff Lou Ford, Casey Affleck, who's sick mind has him feeling that all is right in what ever he does as long as he can get away with it. We see that when he was about 12 he brutally attacked and raped a 5 year old girl that his 15 year old step brother Mike, Noah Crawford, ended up taking the rap for.

Now 29 and with a badge Lou feels that he can do whatever he wants and have the law protect him if things don't go his way. Lou even uses blackmail to get off the hook in two of his crimes that leads to those whom he blackmailed Johnnie Pappas, Liam Aiken, and the local town drunk, Brent Briscoe, to commit suicide and get gunned down by the local police in being arrested and accused of the crimes that he committed!

It's when Chester Conway, Ned Beatty, the most powerful man in Central City got Lou to be the bag-man in paying off a local hooker Joyce Lakeland, Jessica Alba, who was having an affair with his son Elmer, Jay R. Ferguson, to get out of town that Lou's sick and disturbed mind started working overtime. Instead of handing Joyce the payoff money,$10,000.00, he beat her to a bloody pulp and waited for Elmer, who was planning to skip town with Joyce, to show up. After blasting Elmer away with Joyce's registered handgun Lou went to see Mr. Conway who was to go together with Lou over to Joyce's place, and see if things went all right,to establish an alibi for himself. This pattern of violence goes on all throughout the movie with Lou not only committing grizzly crimes but then framing totally innocent people of committing them!

By far the worse thing that Lou did was the brutal murder of his fiancée Amy Stanton, Kate Hudson, who's only sin was that she was in love with him. With Lou, now with the shoe on the other foot, being blackmailed by the town drunk for what he did to Joyce he used Amy, by murdering her, as an excuse for offing the derelict in making it look like he was the person who murdered her!

***SPOILERS*** It doesn't take that long for the local law enforcement authorities to get wise to Lou and with**MAJOR SPOILER**Joyce having survived his vicious attack on her as well as framing Joyce for Elmer's murder Lou knew that he was soon to pay for his crimes. The big surprise in the movie came at the end with Lou planning to go out in a fiery "Gotterdammerung" and take every one with him that he finds out that Joyce, who despite his beating her, was still in love with him and wasn't going to testify against him! But by then Lou was so far gone, in both mind & body, that even getting away with his past crimes wasn't as exciting as committing newer one!
