Incantato (2003)
8/10
An amazingly likable and sympathetic leading character make this one worth seeing.

Warning: Spoilers
This film is well worth watching for two reasons. First, the leading character, Nello, is very easy to like--and you really want him to succeed. Second, the film is unusual and it's hard to think of another movie quite like it.

Nello(Neri Marcorè) is a new professor in Bologna. He comes from a family of tailors from Rome and they hope that one day he'll take over the family business. The problem is that he's a bookish classics teacher and seems ill-equipped for the business world or to carry on the family, as he's pathetically slow around women. He seems like a very sweet but timid man.

After some abortive attempts to find a girlfriend, he accidentally stumbles upon a very odd lady. Angela (Vanessa Incontrada) is a recently blinded rich girl. She apparently had lived the very wild life of a party girl and now she inexplicably is trying to vamp poor Nello. However, the reason for this is soon apparent--she's on the rebound and wants to make her old fiancé jealous! Soon Nello begins to imagine marrying Angela--but the odds against them seem insurmountable. There's much more to the story but I won't say more--it would spoil the movie.

The character of Nello is one of the more interesting ones I've seen in some time. The actor and writer did a great job in making the viewer like him and hurt with him as he goes through his rocky love life. I adored him and just wanted to hug Nello! However, be forewarned that this is a somewhat adult film with a bit of nudity and some rather adult story elements. I am not saying this as criticism so much as it just wouldn't be appropriate or appreciated by kids. Give this sweet little film a chance.
