A few years ago, a great set of early Fox Studio films by Frank Borzage and F.W. Murnau was released. If you love silents and early talking films, the set is a must-see--as they represent some of the very best movies of this era. Well, in addition to releasing these films, the set also included this wonderful documentary. Now considering it was an extra film included with this set, I assumed it was just a hastily created documentary and nothing more. How wrong I was--it was a terrific film from start to finish. Like its title suggests, the film is about the studio's head, William Fox, and two of his most talented directors. Considering that the likes of John Ford and Howard Hawks also worked there, it's a testament to Borzage's and Murnau's talents that they are featured in this film. So why did I like it so much? Well, it was very thorough, lovingly made and created a great appreciation for their films. And, I'd say it's as good as any documentary on classic Hollywood I have seen. It's well worth seeing.
