Charley runs out to the car to start it and it begins to pour down rain. So, he rushes to buy an umbrella. Then, after buying one, he places a plank across the road so he can cross--and insists to another guy that he goes first--and falls into a HUGE hole. Soon a policeman comes along and Charley runs inside to change his clothes--and the movie ends.
