Point Blank (2010)

Visceral, just like Cavayé can deliver
6 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
One word jumps out when I think of what to say about it, visceral. The opening scenes leave you no doubt this movie is going to be an adrenaline rush. I've never seen a character get hit by a motorcycle before in a movie, at least not so powerfully; that scene was mind blowing. Check out the movie's official website to get the premise of the whole story. You have bad guys and worse cops in a race to cover their tracks, eliminate incriminating evidence and witnesses and caught up in the middle is a couple, weeks away from the birth of their first child; the wife, Nadia, played by Elena Anaya, is loving and sexy, her husband Samuel, played by Gilles Lelouche is many women's ideal role model. Hugo the bad guy, played by Roschdy Zem is… well… scary and very serious; he plays that part superbly. It's hard at times to keep track of who the bad cops are, and they are despicable, so you have to focus, you'll find a Red Bull helps. First, you need to get passed one glaring flaw: Hugo who should have died in that aforementioned motorcycle hit, is up and about two days later after just one injection of who the hell knows what drug (must be a miracle drug). Once you convince yourself that the director forgot to insert a caption something like 'weeks later' before Hugo is helped out of the hospital, then you can enjoy the virtually non-stop action, but you have to get past that error. The prospect of seeing Anaya in other scenes helped me get over that omission on Cavayé's part; I liked most of his other movies and so I got over it, as it seems many other viewers. For some strange reason I kept thinking this movie reminds me of 'The Nest'/'Nid de Guèpes'; let's say it was the Red Bull side effect.
